Lt. and Mrs. Kluthe Are Parents of Son; Home In New York Happy news was received by Mr. and Mrs. H., Kluthe of 522 South Palm street, when the announcement was received from Lt. and Mrs. Gilbert N. Kluthe of the birth of their son, Paul Gilbert on the 29th of July. Lieutenant Kluthe is chief inspector for the Chemical Warfare Service of the U.S. Army at the E.C. Brown Company plant in Rochester, New York. The deadly flame-throwers, which have proven so effective in many instances in the present war, are being manufactured in this plant. From demonstrations made at the plant, the fire from this weapon is of intense heat and scorches everything it contacts. A double tank is strapped to a soldier's back, then he picks up the "gun," a long, slim contraption that looks like an elongated firehose nozzle. A slight hissing sound from the gun and then a faint flame spouts from the nozzle as he sets it into action. The next instant livid fire shoots from the gun and will reach quite some distance. The fire burns for a few seconds then billowing black smoke will appear. From this a person can get some idea of what happens when the boys in the jungle go to work on an enemy blockhouse or hidden machine-gun nest. Lt. Kluthe has told his parents that inspection of the flame-throwers in the plant is one of the most rigid conducted on any Builder Speaks at Realty Board Meet Wednesday Night Col. Wm. H. Evans of Yorba Linda, southland builder and head of the Economy Housing corporation with offices in Long Beach and now engaged in building 22 new homes in Anaheim, was the principal speaker at a regular meeting of the Anaheim Realty Board held Wednesday night at the Parker House cafe. Vice President Joe Sowder presided at the meeting with R. S. Summers acting as program chairman. City officials and chamber of commerce officials and directors were guests of the Realty Board. Col. Evans, former regional supervisor and organizer of the Federal Housing Administration program on the Pacific coast, was also originator of the Civilian Conservation Corps with its scores of CCC camps throughout the nation. He maintains his home at Yorba Linda, however his business interests are widely distributed throughout this area. The speaker talked with understanding of the real estate business, present and post-war, stressing the expansion that is inevitable throughout this coast section. Brother of Local Woman Dies Mon. Cristobal A. Orosco, 16, passed away last Saturday in an Orange hospital after a short illness. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday in Bautista church in Garden Grove. Among the relatives surviving are sister, Mrs. Ysabel Sanchez of Anaheim, with three other sisters, his parents and three brothers surviving. You get all the local news in The Gazette. Lt. Kluthe has told his parents that inspection of the flame-throwers in the plant is one of the most rigid conducted on any war material. These must be as nearly mechanically perfect as it is possible to make them because the soldier has only one chance to use his weapon, because he usually doesn't have the second chance since the enemy is probably facing him at that instant. Soldiers who use this weapon are schooled in its operation and the instructors have found several tricks that can be used other than direct flame throwing. Carrie Parrett Passes Away At Her Home on Wed. Mrs. Carrie Parrett passed away at her home at 614 North Lemon street, Wednesday morning after an extended illness. She was 90 years old at her passing. Mrs. Parrett has lived in the state of California for seventy years and in Anaheim since 1931. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church in Fullerton. Surviving her are three sons, Walter B. Parrett of Anaheim, Arthur S. Parrett of Fresno, and John S. of Altocas, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Clara Stickney of Ukiah, Calif.; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 7, from the Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars chapel with the Rev. A. P. Bohn, pastor of the Fullerton Seventh Day Adventist church, officiating.
