Lt. Craig's Parents Receive Additional Information of Son
Information concerning their son was received recently by Mr. and Mrs. Ted Craig of Brea, Lt. Edward (Ted) Craig, Jr., was reported missing in action in the South Pacific in the battle of New Guinea. Other members of his crew have written Mr. and Mrs. Craig stating that he and his wing man were returning to New Guinea from the Admiralty Islands in R-38 planes and that they are home on leave, if they write of interesting incidents of army life, or if they should be taken prisoner of war, etc, etc; please call The Gazette, phone 2206, and give an item for this column. Anaheim Flyer Wins Silver Wings At Pecos Air Field
PECOS, TEXAS—Robert Jean O'Donnell, son of Mrs. E. J. O'Donnell, Route 1, Box 214-B, Anaheim, California, received his silver wings today when he graduated as a Flight Officer from the Advanced Two-Engine Pilot School, at Pecos Army Air Field, it was announced by Col. Orin J. Bushey, commanding officer.
The new pilot, a former resident of Anaheim, California, completed a course in training in twin-engine aircraft. He was assigned to Pecos from Gardner Field, California.
He is a former student of Anaheim Union High School.
Pecos Army Air Field, a station of the AAF Training Command, is located in the historic trans-Pecos area of west Texas.
FIVE MORE BLUE STAMPS VALID JULY 1
Five more blue stamps totaling 50 points—W8, X8, Y8, Z8 and A5—will be good for buying rationed processed foods after July 1, the Office of Price Administration said today.
During July, OPA said, many housewives will use all of the first strip of blue ration stamps in war ration book four and will begin using the second strip, the first stamp in this series being A5.
The first strip contained stamps bearing the figure "8" on their face. The figure "5" is printed on stamps in the second row.
These figures serve for indentification of the stamps only, and have no connection whatever withSON LANDS SAFELY AT FRENCH PORT
Information that the Barney “Bud” Stoffei had safely at a French received last Saturday by Mrs. Barney Stoffel of Helena street. Information concerning their son was received recently by Mr. and Mrs. Ted Craig of Brea. Lt. Edward (Ted) Craig, Jr., was reported missing in action in the South Pacific in the battle of New Guinea. Other members of his crew have written Mr. and Mrs. Craig stating that he and his wing man were returning to New Guinea from the Admiralty Islands in P-38 planes and that they were about 120 miles from their base at Finschafen at about 7 p.m. when they encountered extremely bad weather. The planes separated at this point due to the weather making formation flying impossible. They reported that his wing man landed safely on New Britain.
His parents have hope that he will return home safely eventually and his buddies also feel confident that he will return. His father is a field representative of the Pacific Lighting Corporation.
Lt. Craig was a member of the famed "King Bees," the first night fighters trained completely in the United States and the first such group to arrive in New Guinea.
He won the Air Medal for blowing up a thousand ton Jap freighter off Hansa bay soon after his arrival in the South Pacific.
John E. McKim Passes On Monday
John E. McKim, a native of New Mexico and a resident of Anaheim for more than thirty years, died at the age of 54 years, death coming Monday afternoon at the family home, 1512 West Center street, after an extended illness.
For years, Mr. McKim was one of the custodians of the grammar schools and he was a prominent leader in Boy Scout work. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church of Fullerton.
Surviving are his wife, L. Bertha McKim; one son, Omar E. McKim with the armed forces; two daughters, Mrs. Jean Scully and Miss Juletta McKim both of Anaheim; one brother, Charles H. McKim; one sister, Mrs. Bernice E. Miles of Fullerton and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Hilgenfeld chapel today (Thursday) at two o'clock. Elder L. R. Anderson; former pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist church in Fullerton, will administration said today.

These figures serve for identification of the stamps only, and have no connection whatever with their value. Regardless of whether food ration stamps have an 8, 5, 2 or 1 on their face, they are all worth 10 points.
SATURDAY VISITING DAY AT L. B. NAVAL HOSPITAL
An extra visiting day for friends and relatives of patients at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Long Beach, was announced today by Capt. Paul M. Albright, USN, Medical Officer in Command.
The new day is Saturday and visitors will be admitted from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. Captain Albright said.
No change has been made in the former visiting schedule of Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday and holidays from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M.
LOCAL MEN JOIN NAVY
Leroy James Kemp and Richard Swak, both of Anaheim, have received commissions as ensigns in the United States Navy, according to an announcement from the office of Rear Admiral I. C. Johnson, director of office procurement for the 11th Naval District with headquarters in Los Angeles.
RECEIVES SILVER WINGS FROM AIR SCHOOL
Marvin Preston Thompson, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Preston Thompson of 827 North Lemont street, Anaheim, was among the class of graduates to receive his silver wings and commission as a second lieutenant in the Army Air Corps from the Marfa, Texas, Air school on June 27.
He is a graduate of Anaheim Union high school and attended Fullerton and Santa Ana junior colleges.
At the end of his present furlough, which he is spending at the home of his parents, Marvin will report to the B-17 school at Roswell, N.M., for further training.

LT.WALTER P.GUY LANDS IN ENGLAND
Mrs. Margaret Guy of Palm street, received safe arrival of her son, L.P.Guy, in England. He of visiting with Lt. Rogman, brother of a local man, Thayer Chapman, been in England for all years.

Camburn W. Home on Furler
Pvt. Camburn W.M.of Geo.E.Miller of 7 Sabina,Anaheimarrived Sunday for a three week long with his father and relatives, reporting back Bliss,Texas.on July 2he will serve in a train.
Camburn recently was to the states after service-three months in the Islands and where he suin broken right shoulder while line of duty in February been confined to various since that time but is sufficiently at present able to use his arm quail While in the Northland attached to the 503rd craft division and saw service. He enlisted in s February 15, 1943.

AIR MEDAL AWARDED TO ANAHEIM MAN
Sgt. William G. Pysden, whose home is on Route Four, Anaheim, and where his wife, Mrs. Josephine Pysden is residing, was recently awarded the Air Medal for participation in five pre-invasion combat missions over some of the most heavily defended German positions in Europe, according to an announcement from Lt. Gen. Lewis H. Breerton, commanding general of the Ninth Air Force, "somewhere in England."
Sgt. Pysden is an aerial gunner on a twin engined "Havoc" in the A-20 Light Bombardment Group, and is one of a group participating in the "round the clock" bombings over Germany and Axis held territory.
He is a graduate of the Garden Grove highschool and Fullerton Junior college and was employed by the Shell Oil Co., in Los Angeles, until he enlisted in February, 1943.
ENTERS SERVICE
Among the thirty-seven men called from the Santa Ana Selective Service Board last Thursday morning were Frank R. Ayala of Anaheim. They left for induction centers.
SON LANDS SAFELY
AT FRENCH PORT
Information that their son, Barney "Bud" Stoffei, had arrived safely at a French port was received last Saturday by Mr. and Mrs. Barney Stoffel of 118 North Helena street. He was with the second division who recently made the invasion of France and which division was reported to have been mostly annihilated during the drive. "Bud," as he is known by his many friends, has written a letter to his parents since the invasion and told of several interesting events in connection with the invasion and imparts the news that he is well and working hard.

REPORTED AS 'WOUNDED IN ACTION'
