Harry O. Warton, Prominent Lawyer Dies Suddenly Harry O. Warton, prominent lawyer of this city, passed away very suddenly last Saturday evening, June 24, at his home at 416 North Emily street. He was fifty-three years old. Mr. Warton was born in Superior, Nebr., and has been a resident of Anaheim for the past fifteen years. Surviving are his wife, Minnie B. Warton of the home; a daughter, Eileen Marie, also of the home, and one son, John Francis with the Merchant Marine stationed in New York who is here at present. He was a member of the Anaheim Masonic lodge; Royal Arch Commandery at Casper, Wyo.; Al Malaika Temple of Los Angeles; Placentia post of the American Legion; Anaheim chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Eagles Lodge in Anaheim. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock from the chapel of Backs, Campbell and Kaulbars Mortuary with the Rev. D. Howard Dow, rector of St. Michael's Episcopal church, officiating. Interment was in Anaheim cemetery. California State Guard Reorganizes For Active Duty Following recent three day conferences in Sacramento with Bridgadier General Ray W. Hays, adjutant general of California, attended by regional instructors from the ten regions of the California State Guard, Col. John C. Foster testified available to the guard at an early date." "Tactical schools for battalion commanders and their staffs will start August 6, and again on August 13, each for a week's duration. Key non-commissioned officers working with staff headquarters will also be eligible. These schools will be conducted at the Los Angeles Armory by United States Army officers, as will schools for commandants, assistant commandants, and instructors for California High School Cadet Corps, from August 20 to August 27." Lions To Hold Installation At Los Serranos Club Last Friday's noon luncheon meeting of the Lions club was largely given over to making final arrangements for the War Bond sale at the downtown bond booth which was sponsored that day by the club, and to hearing reports of the state convention held at San Jose. No speaker or other entertainment was planned for the meeting. President-elect Thayer Chapman made the report on the convention. Others who attended were Dist. Gov. Louis Hoskins and Mrs. Hoskins, President Fran Elliott, Secy. Vic LaMont, Treas. H. G. Schmelzer, Leavitt Ford, Dr. John Boege. Thomas Tucker, chief clerk of the rationing board, was a guest of Lion Lee Fabian. During the meeting O. E. Hanson took applications for war bonds, Third Army Chairman Lee Fabian, James A. Baker, Charles A. Pearson and other members of the bond sale committee, urged the members to attend the bond sale during the afternoon. Roy Mendoza announced plans for the ladies' party and installation of officers which will take place at 326 East Center street recently purchased by H. H. More than 175,000 visitors are expected to visit the big four-engined Flying Fress which has made such an viable record, as well as the Clytrain hospital-cargo plane which spearheaded the Invasion "D" Day, returning all wounded to English hospitals less than 10 hours after the start of the attack. Also featuring a dance will be the Douglas Army Service School. Visitors will be admitted to special ticket only. First shire employees and their friends are urged to visit the Douglas Long Beach plant between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.; second and third shirts crowds between 2 and 5 p.m. The schedule will provide the time needed to show visitors through out the plant without overcrowding. Adequate parking facilities will be available in the company parking lot across the street from the Douglas Long Beach plant at Lakewood Boulevard. French, tactical commander for the Ninth Region, (Los Angeles and Orange Counties) was busy at his headquarters today outlining to battalion commanders General Hays' plans for expanded State Guard activities and intensive recruiting. "During the next three months guard units will be specially trained in rifle marksmanship, chemical warfare, bayonet drill, and such special operations as might be needed in case of major diaster," Col. French said. "The War Department is increasing equipment for guard use, and will more closely than ever supervise guard training. Increased allotments of ammunition, machine guns, plus jeeps, scout cars, command cars, trucks, and machine gun carts are to be made Thomas Tucker, chief clerk of the rationing board, was a guest of Lion Lee Fabian. Burden, pastor of the White Temple Methodist Church, returned to their homes hereon Wednesday from Pasadena where they had been attending conference for the past several days. Deer Plumber Building; Move Soon or remodeling work is completed at the building East Center street recently based by H. H. Armbrust, plumber, and he will office with a glass panel partition separating the shop room from the display room. There is a drive-in entrance at both front and back with ample space for the work shop and storage. Carpenter work has been completed and painters and electricians should complete their part of the work within the next week. Mr. Armbrust has been in the plumbing business in Anaheim since 1911 and his new and larger quarters in the downtown district will allow for expansion of the business when plumbing equipment becomes more plentiful. Mrs. Armbrust will have charge of the office and display room in the new quarters. John W. Ramsey Funeral Today Funeral services for John W. Ramsey, 87 years old, will be held today (Thursday) at the Hilgenfeld chapel at 10 o'clock with the Rev. Stanley Frederick George, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating and burial will be made in Loma Vista memorial park. He is a native of Iowa and was a resident of Anaheim and vicinity for twenty years. He died Monday forenoon while seated on the porch at 206 West Broadway. Laguna Beach Man Dies Here Max Bojanower, a resident of Laguna Beach, who was here visiting, passed away last Saturday, June 24th. He was 80 years old. The deceased was born in Bresleau, Germany, and had lived in the United States for 64 years and in California for three years. His survivors are a son of Bojanower of Downey, and grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the chapel of Campbell and Kaulbars morning at 10 a.m. with the Stanley Frederick George of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.
