ANAHEIM FLYER GOES INTO ACTIVE SERVICE
CHILDRESS ARMY AIR FIELD, Childress, Tex. — This AAF Centray Flying Training Command bombardier-navigator school today sent another large class of "Hell - from Heaven" men into active service, the first since the land invasion of Fortress Europe.

RECEIVES ADVANCE IN RANK 'OVER THERE'
Carl R. Hawkins, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Winney of Rt. 1, Anaheim, was advanced recently to the rank of ensign and received a "spot" commission while serving in the South Pacific. He was a quartermaster firstclass with the Navy before receiving the higher rank.
Hawkins entered the service three and a half years ago and has been in the South Pacific the last three years.
He is a graduate of Tustin Union Highschool and Fullerton Junior college. He now has three campaign ribbons. A brother, Arthur L. Winney, is with the U. S. Army in Australia.
PFC. CLAIR WEST WINS PRAISE FROM LT. GEN.
Pfc. Clair G. West of Route 1, Anaheim, was recently commended by Lt. Gen. Carl A. Spaatz, commanding general of the U. S. Air Forces in England, when production at West's depot was increased 100 per cent. He is a highly trained technician, and is the husband of Mrs. Marjorie West. His duties consist of helping to overhaul and rebuild aircraft instruments belonging to the accessories section of the Air Service command.

Among the twenty-three men inducted into the Navy last Friday morning at Santa Ana were Ernest E. Price of Anaheim, George H. Atchley of Buena Park, Richard C. Timme of Yorba Linda and David D. McGuire of Garden Marine Air Service Officer Speaks At Lions Meeting
Speaking before the noon meeting of the AAF Lions club at the Elks club Friday, Capt. A. G. Carp head of the public relations department of the U. S. Marine Base at El Toro, gave an interesting account of activities in big Marine headquarters.
With a population of sized city, the men and of the Marines and civilian employees at the base make community that maintains services of the average munity, with the attendant pro

SPENDS WEEKEND HERE
A/C Floyd Stevens and A/C Clifford Singeley, both stationed at Santa Ana Army Air Base, spent the past weekend here with Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Chaplin, 820 North Topeka. Floyd is well known in Anaheim, having made his home here for several years with Mr. and Mrs. Chaplin and attended the local school. A/C Singeley is from Montgomery, Ala. Floyd's address is: A/C Floyd Stevens, Sq. 61, Barracks "C," Army Air Base, Santa Ana, Calif.

New Type Eddy Test Devised For Men by Navy
A new type of Eddy Test has been devised by Commander Eddy, officer in charge of the Navy's Great Lakes Radio Technician Training school. A supply of the new forms have been received and are being used at the Orange County Navy Recruiting Station, it was announced today by Jerry Hover, recruiter in charge.*
Men 17 to 50½ who may be interested in this specialized Navy training in electronics are urged to come immediately to the recruiting station in the Post Office building, Santa Ana. High school students should inquire about the new examination questions. It is also possible for men 18 to 38 who may wish to join the Navy trough the draft procedure to become eligible for the ten months training at Great Lakes.
HARBOR BOARD MEETS AT NEWPORT MONDAY
Chairman Walter S. Spicer has announced the regular meeting of the Orange County Harbor commission to be held Monday, June 19, at 4:00 p.m., at the Newport Harbor Yacht club. Routine business and further consideration of the budget will be taken up.
LOS ANGELES VISITORS
Mrs. Mary Etta Myers and daughter, Miss Beatrice, of Los Angeles arrived Saturday for a visit with Mrs. Jake Proctor, 271 East Center street. Miss Myers returned home Sunday night while her mother remained here until Wednesday.

County Pioneer Passes Away Sat
Mrs. Hanna A. Hunting resident of Santa Ana for past fifty-nine years, away last Thursday at the age of 86 years. A native of Ohio came to Santa Ana from in 1885 and had resided in S. Main Street since 1903.

Lt. and Mrs. Robert Fluor have gone to Sacramento where they will make their home near Mather Field. He will serve as in instructor there. They have recently returned from their honeymoon spent in Santa Barbara and other spots of interest.
ANAHEIM FLYER WINS PROMOTION TO CAPTAIN
According to word received here Walter K. Kelley who recently returned from the New Guinea war zone where he saw 18 months active service, has been promoted from 1st lieutenant to the rank of captain. He is now a flying instructor stationed at Tucson, Arizona. Mrs. Kelley, the former Lorraine Queyrel, is staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Quayrel of route two. Capt. Kelley formerly lived at Newport Beach. His many friends in Orange county will be glad to learn of his promotion in the service.
LT. SCHOENFELDT WINS NEW HONOR
Lt. Dean E. Schoenfeldt, son of A. J. Schoenfeldt, 251 North Cambridge Street, Orange, has been awarded an Oak Leaf cluster to be worn with the Air Medal, it was recently disclosed from a report received from an Eighth Army Air Force station in England. The citation read "for meritorious service in aerial flight" while participating in ten operation missions over Germany.
Lt. Schoenfeldt is 24 years old and has accounted for two German aircraft destroyed while participating in strafing attacks on Nazi airdromes.
