Rotary Club Hears Talk By Rev. Crouch
At the meeting of the Rotary Club last Monday, the speaker was Rev. A. R. Crouch, who was a Presbyterian Missionary in China from 1934 to 1941. He returned to this country just before the attack on Pearl Harbor. Rev. Crouch has his passport and visas ready for his return to China and will go to India by boat and from there by plane back to China. His wife is the former Ellen Gibbs of Anaheim.
In opening his talk, Rev. Crouch said, "Americans look upon the people of China as mysterious and uncomprehensible but this is far from true. They are amiable, easy to understand and have a philosophy of life which we could practice to a very good advantage."
The speaker reviewed the many contributions the Chinese people have given to civilization in art, literature, printing and architecture. He also enumerated the many developments in agriculture, especially of the beginning of irrigation and the silk industry.
And China is still making contributions to our civilization. The most outstanding one at the present is the development of Christian, cooperative, industrial organizations. The units are small to prevent bombing. Over 300,000 of these units are operating in unoccupied China at present as are many in India. Work is given to war refugees and also protection in these units. All units are self-governed and all members share in the profits. It is in these organizations that the future leaders of China are being developed.

Dr. C. O. Patterson Will Speak at 20-30 Club Monday Night
Next Monday night's speaker at the regular dinner meeting of the 20-30 club to be held at the Elks club dining room, will be Dr. C. O. Patterson, Anaheim optometrist. The speaker will present exhibits and show motion pictures he has taken on some of his travels. His talk on these experiences should prove very interesting and a full attendance of club members is anticipated.
At this week's meeting the members and visitors were entertained by a lecture from Arthur Blackmer, noted health and nutrition specialist who is sponsored by the California school system. His lectures are being given at school assemblies and service clubs throughout the state.
The speaker gave a brief outline of a "Ten-Point Plan" for keeping fit during war time. He related feats of strength that can be gained by proper exercise and foods to keep the body in good physical condition.
Vice-President Aubery Van Verst introduced the speaker and the program was enjoyed by those present.
Several letters from club members now in the armed services were read.
Guests at the meeting were Roy Dargatz, Barney Robinson, President, and Vice-President Schnitzer of the Fullerton 20-30 club.

"Are Sin, Disease, and Death Real?" will be the subject of the Sunday Lesson-Sermon in all branches of the Mother Church, the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston. The Golden Text is from Psalms: "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: who forgiveth all thine iniquities who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction."
In a lesson-sermon passage from I Kings it is related that the son of the widow of Zarephath "fell sick; and his sickness was so sore that there was no breath left in him. And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son? And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode. . . And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived."
Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures:" "If God heals not the sick, they are not healed, for no lesser power equals the infinite all-power; but God, Truth, Life, Love, does heal the sick through the prayer of the righteous."
