The annual report of the California Fruit Growers Exchange shows that the Southern California navel crop in the past season was unusually light, California supplying only 30 per cent of the total in the nation's markets during the navel orange season against 48 per cent the year before, while Florida supplied 66 per cent compared with 49 per cent the previous season. Farmers Plan Big Part In 4th War Bond Campaign Farmers and residents of rural areas of Orange county have a special stake in the 4th National War Bond drive and the Orange County Farm Bureau is anxious that they shall fully understand how the bonds purchased during the period shall be credited and how individuals can help the campaign along. Such is the burden of a statement from C. J. Marks, executive secretary of the Orange County Farm Bureau. Marks emphasized the fact that committees are not to be established to do jobs already being done. The only committees being created are groups of individuals who are willing to solicit their neighbors and friends to urge them to buy more bonds and sign them up on application forms that are available at the county farm bureau offices, 353 South Main street, Orange. Banks, post offices, the production Credit Association and other issuing agencies of the county are being urged to be sure that the individuals have an opportunity to designate a Farm Bureau center, a home department group or the county Farm Bureau as the organization to be credited for their purchases. The ordinary forms used at these issuing agencies can be used. In addition to the forms in use by the banks and others, the Farm Advertisers Have Cooperated In War Recruiting Effort A little over 11 months ago the first American woman donned the attractive uniform of the Marine Corps Women's Reserve. Today, thousands of girls in Marine forest-green with scarlet markings are working in control towers and link trainers, driving transport vehicles, rigging parachutes, and performing other highly specialized duties formerly handled by male Marines. Every Woman Marine has released a man for the fighting front, and thus has participated in glorious American victories such as those on Bougainville, Tarawa and New Britain. In pointing out these inspiring accomplishments during the first historic year that women have worn the uniform of this distinguished branch of America's fighting forces, Colonel D. M. Randall, the officer in charge of the Western Procurement Division, U. S. Marine Corps, stated that an important contribution to the success of the Woman Marines' recruiting program has been the splendid co-operation of newspapers and advertisers. An example of this cooperation is seen in this issue of The Anaheim Gazette. The advertisement of Pacific Greyhound Lines is devoted almost wholly to Marine Corps Women's Reserve recruiting. This message to women is running in more than 500 newspapers throughout California, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and parts of Texas. "We greatly appreciate this co-operation," Colonel Randall said. "This contribution to our cause is particularly appropriate coming from Greyhound, as members of the Marine Corps Women's Reserve." The ordinary forms used at these issuing agencies can be used. In addition to the forms in use by the banks and others, the Farm Bureau has one of which the original accompanies the money or check for the bonds and the duplicate is mailed to the county Farm Bureau offices. The issuing agencies have been asked to keep a close record of the applications they receive on this special form in order that the proper groups may be credited. The crying need now, stated Marks, is for individual solicitors who will do their part toward winning the war by devoting some time to house-to-house solicitation. Such individuals should contact the local Farm Center chairman or the county offices of Farm Bureau. Telephones are Orange 50 and Santa Ana 4506. Anaheim Gazette, since 1870.
