Tune in the radio add somewhere in the program Editorial By ROSS LEE LAIRD Secretary Anaheim Chamber of Commerce “POST WAR PLANS” — Those words jump at us from every magazine we open. Tune in the radio and somewhere in the program we hear something about post war planning. The phrase is being bandied about so much that it is in danger of becoming threadbare. This must not happen. The war is not over yet. The experts tell us that we will have the Nazi’s licked by the middle of 1944 and that Japan will be hanging on the ropes a year later. If these predictions are true, then it is time that we do something about the post war years and that we do something NOW. We oldsters can remember the days following the last war. We know that peace came and American industry was totally unprepared to pick up the tools used in peaceful pursuits. We must not let that happen this time. Business men and firms are making their plans. They do not want a period of unemployment and depression to follow this war. Neither do you — and you can do something about it. We can maintain a period of reasonable prosperity if all of us do some planning to provide work for returning soldiers and war workers immediately after the end of the fighting. Look over your house and garage. Plan to have it painted, repaired or remodeled. If you have bought the bonds you should have, you will have the money. Put that money to work when the right time comes and it is released from doing its duty in the war effort. This is the responsibility of Mr. and Mrs. America. Don’t rely on the business man to do it all. Do your part. Maybe you will need a new fence around the grove. Whatever it is, make the plans now. Write them down so you will not forget them. If all of us do this we will pile up a back log of work that will keep every returning service man and war worker employed until industry is able to get on the main schedule of peace time production.
