ARMY EVACUATION LAGUNA BEACH — Residents in a two-block area of Laguna Beach were evacuated by Army troops Wednesday morning because of the possibility of fire resulting from the over-turning of a heavily loaded butane truck and trailer. The overturned truck and trailer were strewn across the highway in the 300 block of Coast Boulevard, South, but traffic was not interrupted, cars being permitted to pass on the highway shoulders. GARBAGE MEN STRIKE SANTA ANA—a threat to the health of Santa Ana citizens was seen in the strike by nine garbage collectors who quit their jobs Tuesday when denied a pay increase. The men had asked a 25 per cent wage increase from City Engineer Hugh Neighbour. Truck drivers now receive $6.80 a day and the swampers receive $6.40. The street department has secured one driver and two swampers to act in the emergency and believes that regular collections will get under way immediately. The Axis Stops at Nothing. On Tuesday Cranston was in Hollywood working in the Ted Lewis picture, "Is Everybody Happy," at Columbia studios.
