To Those In Service
NAVAL ENLISTEES
Anaheim continues to provide Uncle Sam with young men for the Navy. John V. Norris, Jack R. Richard and Emil P. Ulbright were enlisted last week by the Orange County Recruiting service at its station in the Santa Ana post office building. Other Orange county men enlisting during the week's period were Everett A. Rea of Costa Mesa, Harry H. Nuffer Jr. of Orange and Harold G. Huston of Santa Ana.
ARMY NURSE
This city's newest recruit to that fine body of the Army nurses is Miss Jean Ellen Gordon, daughter of the W. G. Gordons, 852 North Clementine street, who left Sunday for her assignment to the base hospital at Camp Hill, Salt Lake City, Utah.
A graduate of Anaheim union high school and Fullerton junior college, Miss Gordon completed her nurses' training last year at Los Angeles General Hospital School of Nursing. Enlisting for Army service, she was accorded a second lieutenancy a week ago when she was inducted in Los Angeles.
SNAPPY SALUTE
Departure within the week of Lieutenant Grace M. Woolbright, former member of the surgical staff at St. Joseph hospital, to take up new duties at the Army Air Force field at La Junta, Colo., solved a situation arising in the Woolbright home. For Lieut. Grace's husband is Staff Sergeant Thomas Woolbright of Santa Ana Army Air Base, and since she outranks him, it was a case of husband saluting wife!
Mrs. Woolbright received her commission or second lieutenant IT'S MAJOR SCHMITT
That important step from captain to major has been taken by Major Charles A. Schmitt, who received the advancement in rank quite recently at Camp Haan where is is stationed with the Coast Artillery Corps. Major Schmitt has been in line for advancement at different times, but changes from one military post to another have delayed action. He is now stationed so that he finds it possible to be home nearly every week-end with Mrs. Schmitt and their children, at 1129 West Center street.
TRANSFER TO UTAH
Recently transferred from Coolidge, Ariz., Pfc. Perry H. Doepke is now stationed with the Escort Guard company at Ogden Internment camp, Ogden, Utah, according to letters received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Doepke, 220 North Olive street. He is enthusiastic about the Utah scenery, but writes that he feels the cold since leaving the warmer Arizona base.
APPRENTICE SEAMAN
Having completed her five weeks' indoctrination course at the Naval training school for WAVES at Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls, Ia., Miss Suzanne Sidnam, former Anaheim girl and graduate of Fullerton jaysee, is now a full fledged apprentice seaman, awaiting assignment for advanced special training and future promotion to the rank of petty officer.

Ebell Bible section members were privileged, at their Monday afternoon program, to enjoy the writing gifts of Mrs. A. L. Raymond, and the dramatic gifts of a group of sister clubwomen, appearing in the "Morality Play" written by Mrs. Raymond.
The latter had applied a dramatic concept to a group of qualities needed for character building with Mrs. H. J. Fackiner and Paul Demaree as vocalist Mrs. Charlyn Peterson.

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE
The Golden Text of Sunday's lesson-sermon on "Love" in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, is "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life" (Jude). The lesson sermon tells the Bible story of the woman healed by touching the hem of Jesus' garment. Selections from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy include "It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good."
