ANAHEIM GAZETTE Established 1870 HENRY KUCHEL, Editor and Publisher 1887-1935 Mrs. Henry Kuchel Theodore B. Kuchel Editors and Publishers The Anaheim Gazette has been owned and edited by the same family since 1875. Published every Thursday at 259 East Center Street, Anaheim, California. Subscription Per Year, $2.00 — Six Months $1.00 Entered as second-class matter at the Post Office at Anaheim, California, under the Act of March 8, 1879. He'd Be Pleased Father's day, Sunday, ought to remind us that Dad—though seldom figuring in the news in his capacity as head of the family—is certainly not one to be overlooked. It was, we suspect, to accord the "silent partner" of family life just recognition that Father's day was first originated. At any rate, there should be no disputing the rightness of a day in his honor this Sunday. Dads, by the millions, have given their sons to the armed services. Not a few themselves are enrolled in the fighting forces. Legions of them are fashioning the tools, weapons, and machines of war. Virtually every one of them is quietly wrestling with the biggest tax bills mortal man ever knew, gamely seeking to spare his family all avoidable hardships. His quota of worries and responsibilities has jumped sharply in the past year, but it's not his style to make a fuss about it. Nor, is it his style to expect anyone to remember him particularly Sunday. He may consider such a "day" a lot of foolishness. But we have a hunch he'd be pleased no end if, on Father's day, you remembered him in some special way—even if it's only to tell him so. Recorder Ruby McFarland, Announces Candidacy To Succeed Herself To Office County Recorder, Ruby McFar- Nor, is it his style to expect anyone to remember him particularly Sunday. He may consider such a "day" a lot of foolishness. But we have a hunch he'd be pleased no end if, on Father's day, you remembered him in some special way—even if it's only to tell him so. Recorder Ruby McFarland, Announces Candidacy To Succeed Herself To Office County Recorder, Ruby McFarland, who was appointed to her office nearly two years ago by the County Supervisors, today issued formal announcement of her candidacy to succeed herself. Mrs. McFarland has had long experience in the recorder's office, having entered it as a deputy on January 1, 1915. She was appointed chief deputy recorder August 1, 1927, and served in that capacity until September 13, 1940, when the board of Supervisors appointed her to fill the vacancy caused by death of Recorder J. Fred Sidebottom. "My position as a candidate can be briefly and simply stated," she said in announcing her candidacy. "If elected, I shall continue efficient and courteous administration of the office." Help your AIR RAID WARDEN Your air raid warden has a big job, an important job to do...and he is doing it. It's a job in which we all can help and must help, because for the months ahead our safety is in his care. Perhaps there are some things yet to be done in which you can aid...does he need more firewatchers?...does he need more messengers?...does he need help in some of the hundred and one details that require attention? Ask your air raid warden if there is something you can do. This war is your war, too. Your electric appliances need help also. These faithful "servants" frequently are neglected but they shouldn't be. Now, more than ever, we must take care of what we have and "make it last."
