Following simple ceremonies this week, a war service flag was on display today at the branch of the Bank of America in Anaheim, indicating 1,255 young men from the organization have already responded to the call to arms.

TO THE VOTERS OF ORANGE COUNTY:
In asking for your support at the Primary Election to be held on August 25th, I do so with a feeling that I have done my duty as your assessor during all the years I have served you. I promise that if reelected I will conduct the office in the future as I have in the past by being fair and just to all tax payers large or small, regardless of religion, race or color. This is my platform for which I stand. Your vote will be appreciated.

Smith Pledges Service For Co. Clerk Vote
Pledging continuance of the service and policy of his office, County Clerk B. J. Smith today launched his campaign for reelection to the post he got first by Supervisorial appointment and then won without opposition at the polls.
He will stand for reelection at the August 25 primary, he announced.
A member of the clerk's office since January 1, 1925, Smith has served in all departments, first as a Superior Court clerk and last as deputy in charge of voters' registrations. From this post he was appointed county clerk by the Board of Supervisors, upon unanimous petition of the office personnel, to succeed the veteran Joe Backs following his untimely death.
Long regarded as one of the most important of the county functions, the clerk's office is responsible for all records of the county and high courts. It handles minutes of the Board of Supervisors, naturalization proceedings, marriage licenses, voters' registrations, conducts elections and administers duties assigned the clerk by state and federal agencies.
"Experience plays an important role in handling the records and documents pertaining to civil, probate, criminal and juvenile court and all other functions," Smith explained. "I respectfully request that voters investigate the service of this office during the five years of my administration, and if they find it satisfactory, they support at the August 25 primary will be greatly appreciated."

Keep the planes flying! Keep those tanks rolling!
"The Voice with a Smile" is trying with every ounce of energy to do its part. Of the approximately 14,500 employees in this company, about 95 per cent are now buying War Savings Bonds through our Payroll Allotment Plan.
These bonds are being bought out of the earnings of the people who serve at switchboards, on poles, on trucks, down in manholes, at desks and counters—wherever telephone men and women are found.
Many firms have established payroll allotment plans to make it convenient for their employees to invest systematically in War Savings Bonds.
