"This Is America" Theme For Marywood Musical “This is America” is the theme of a musical to be presented by the students of Marywood School of Music tonight at 8 p.m. on the campus at 407 West Broadway. The opening number by the orchestra, “On the Trail,” creates the mood for the first period, bringing the music of Mother Goose children singing nursery rhymes and fairy tales will be featured in the second period. “Intermezzo,” for two pianos with orchestral, introduces the third period of present day musical life. “AMERICAN ODE” The singing of the “American Ode” by the glee club and the Star Spangled Banner by the entire audience will bring the musical to a close. The continuity will be presented by a verse speaking quartet and was written by Miss Barbara Bruchman, teacher of violin at the school. Nelleson-Osborn Nuptial Rites Held at St. Boniface Church Saturday Morning Miss Catherine Nelleson was married to Wayne Osborn at St. Boniface church Saturday morning with Rev. Henry Gross officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Nellesen of Anaheim, and Mr. Osborn is the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Osborn of Glenn, Minn. The bride was gowned in traditional white and carried a white gladioli centered with gardenias. The white altar was arranged with spring flowers, candles and potted plants. BLUE CHIFFON Her attendant was Mary Nellesen in poudre blue chiffon and carrying a colorful bouquet of blue and pink larkspur and gladioli. Best man was Wade Osborn, twin brother of the bridegroom. The usher was Frank Monniig. Mrs. Clara Faust played the wedding march at the organ console. Witnesses of the ceremony Her bridegroom is a graduate of schools in Iowa and formerly worked with the French Laundry of this city. He is also employed at Douglas aircraft. BRIDEGROOM'S MOTHER Mrs. Mellinthin, mother of the bride was dressed in a navy suit and hat for her daughter's wedding while the bridegroom's mother was gowned in black with powder blue hat and gloves. Raised in Anaheim, the son of the late Henry Kuchel, publisher of the Gazette, Senator Kuchel was educated in this city's schools, is a graduate of the University of Southern California and USC Law School and a member of Phi Kappa Psi. He has served in the legislature since 1936, two terms as assemblymen and now as senator. He is chairman of the Republican State Central committee. Mr. and Mrs. Kuchel plan to make their home in Long Beach temporarily. Martha Esther Humphres, Ralph Danker Marry in Local Zion Lutheran Church The Zion Lutheran church of Anaheim was the scene last Thursday night of the marriage of Miss Martha Esther Humphres, daughter of Mrs. Florence Humphres of Orange Park Acres, and Ralph Danker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Danker of Anaheim, with Rev. H. G. Schmelzer, former pastor of the church officiating. The bride, wearing a white marquisette gown with lace inset and long train and carrying a bridal bouquet of gardenias, bouvardias and a single orchid, was given in marriage by Ransler Baker of Tustin. Miss Billie Casto of Orange was the maid of honor and wore pastel green and carried a blue delphinium, Talisman rose and gardenia bouquet. Bridesmaids, Miss Rachael Jacobs and Miss Lorraine Schaffert, were dressed in yellow and carried blue delphinium and Talisman rose nosegays. Fred Kalner of Olive was best man and Robert and Orville Timme, also of Olive, were ushers. Miss Marjorie Danker was soloist and was accompanied by Walter Knigge. IN PADDOCK HOME A reception was held in the home of the Eldon Paddocks at 820 North Dickel street. The mothers of the bridal couple received Mrs. Humphres wore navy blue and white and Mrs. Danker wore a navy blue dress. The former Miss Humphres is a graduate of Orange high school and is now working at the telephone office in Santa Ana. The bridegroom is a graduate of Orange high school and is now employed with the Firestone company in Los Angeles. They will make their home in Santa Ana after honeymooning in the north. ATTEND OPERA Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Williams of Anaheim have been attending a series of light operas and were present at the matinee of "Music in the Air" at the Philharmonic auditorium in Los Angeles this week. Several other teachers from the local high school attended with the Anaheim couple. They were Miss Elizabeth Hunziker, her brother, Sam; Laura Gene Frantz, her mother, Mrs. Gene Frantz. Mrs. H. E. W. Barnes and Mrs. Leo Friis of the Anaheim chapter of the Assistance League are in charge of ticket sales for this area. Tickets may also be secured at the Fuller, Heying, Jackson, Henrys or Orange County Drug stores. CADET BAND The cadet band of ten men, taken from the band personnel at the Santa Ana base, will provide music for dancing throughout the evening and will include everything from waltzes to symphonic swing in their repertoire. Many of these men have been associated with well known bands in the past. In addition, the two floor shows, scheduled for 9 and 11 p.m., will feature an all male chorus and glamorous costumes and backgrounds. This event is planned as a benefit to raise funds to provide a large concrete dance and gym floor for cadets at the air base. A group of 100 coeds from the college auxiliary of the Assistance League of Southern California in Los Angeles are planning to attend the dance in busses from the city. Mrs. Sydney Brough, a member of the Los Angeles board will chaperone the group. Some of the well known performers to appear on the program are: Cadet Charles Perrin, Chicago, who will be master of ceremonies, an impersonator; Nelson Mason, whose baritone voice has been heard on Fred Waring and Hal Kemp shows and on a program of his own over CBS under the name of Bob Nelson, is instructing cadets on how to do the hula; Rod Manning of Minneapolis, who sang the lead in the Gilbert and Sullivan operas when they were produced in his home city, will be heard. Burden, pastor of the White Temple Methodist church of Anaheim, was speaker at the annual Gymnastica Ganu service at the Welsh Presbyterian church in Los Angeles this week. Accompanying him to the service were Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Williams of this city. The Welsh singers, internationally known musicians, who appeared in “How Green Is My Valley,” sang during the afternoon. Tudor Williams, Welsh singer and teacher, and formerly of Anaheim, directed the group in the songs sung in the movie. Director of the chorus is Rev. P. Richards.
