ANAHEIM GAZETTE Established 1870 HENRY KUCHEL, Editor and Publisher 1887-1935 Mrs. Henry Kuchel Theodore B. Kuchel Editors and Publishers The Anaheim Gazette has been owned and edited by the same family since 1875. Published every Thursday at 259 East Center Street, Anaheim, California. Subscription Per Year, $2.00 — Six Months $1.00 Entered as second-class matter at the Post Office at Anaheim, California, under the Act of March 8, 1879. Ask And Receive! (Continued from Page 1) You betcha America is confident. We've never been licked and we're never going to be. And we're going to keep right on being confident until the not too distant day when we come over and shut off your lights and gas. Yes, Goebbels, and we're doubtful and questioning too. We're from Missouri, ll 130 million of us. We even question our big boss, the President; because we've a right to question anything that concerns us, and because he asks our opinion. That's something you wouldn't understand. That's Greek to you, Nazi! That's because we own a part in our country. And it's because we do ask questions, that your lying propaganda won't be worth a plugged nickel over here. And so we're wasteful, and selfish and uncooperative as well. You've decided that from listening to the debates in our halls of state. You've listened to our two cents worth and construed it to mean selfish, wasteful, uncooperative stubbornness. You should have talked to the millions of John and Mary Does, yes, and even the kids, who'll take the clothing off their backs this minute without a whimper, who'll surrender everything they have but their right to live as they wish if it's necessary to get this war over with. So Americans are impatient. And this is directed to friend and enemy, and particularly to the statesmen who lead us. We're impatient with anything that prolongs this war, anything that even looks like dilly-dallying. We're impatient with our lawmakers for looking after their best interests, and ours too. To hell with our best interests. Our best interests are to get this war over with tomorrow if we can. We're impatient with anyone we suspect of pulling punches, punches aimed at the Axis' off their backs this minute without a whimper, who'll surrender everything they have but their right to live as they wish if it's necessary to get this war over with. We're impatient with anyone we suspect of pulling punches, punches aimed at the Axis' chin. We're put out about the talk of ending strikes, about lining up labor, about eliminating war profiteering for which we must pay. Talk about ending non-defense spending and turning it into production for war. Gab about what we're going to do and what we can do. WE WANT ACTION NOW! To the leaders of the United States: "You show the way to winning this war, and every American will follow you. Forget the hardship, both yours and mine. ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE! Well Deserved Anaheim has just cause to be proud of one of her sons today. Raymond Smith was promoted this week to the rank of Lieut. Colonel in the armed forces of our country. To most of Col. Smith's friends, this announcement will come as no great surprise. They knew and realized that if diligence, loyalty and strict attention to duty counted, then Ray Smith would stand above the crowd. The record he made here at home is the same as he is now making in the service. We know the kind of a man he was here in civilian life and from that we are sure the Army has made a wise and truly merited promotion. Anaheim is proud of Col. Smith—let us be sure he can be proud of us.
