PHANTOM KILLER The case of the phantom killer. Extraordinary detective work—and a strange piece of luck—ended the year hunt for the West's most terrific strangler and averaged the 21 victims who died in grip of his ape-like hand. Read about this thrilling story in The American Weekly magazine distributed next week's LOS ANGELES EXAMINER.-adv. California Fruit Growers Exchange Backs Orderly Citrus Market Program BULLETIN Speaking for a second time before federal marketing of ficials in Los Angeles, Tuesday, Paul S. Armstrong, general manager of California Fruit Growers Exchange, discussed additional marketing problems concerning citrus crops in the Southland. Speaking before US Surplus Marketing administration officials in Los Angeles this week, Paul S. Armstrong, general manager of the California Fruit Growers Exchange, backed an orderly marketing program for Southland citrus growers as the solution to the problem of collapsing citrus price structure during and after the wartime period. WARTIME PERIOD Armstrong said in part: "Even during this wartime period with certain industries producing at a maximum, there will be periods when the supply exceeds demand. It therefore seems advisable that orderly marketing programs provided by the Federal act can and should play an important part during and subsequent to the war emergency period. "They will, in many instances, provide means of avoiding commercial scarcity, and also avoid the Marketing Agreement act to permit its use by any agricultural industry which desires to take advantage of the programs permitted by this enabling legislation." What To Do About Friendly Aliens Answered By One of Foreign Group BULLETIN In the letter the man suggested... What To Do About Friendly Aliens Answered By One of Foreign Group BULLETIN Over 200 aliens had registered at the Anaheim post office as of Monday night's deadline, according to postal officials today. What to do about friendly aliens, numbering close to 4,000,000 persons was in part answered today by one of the aliens himself in a letter addressed to a large New York daily newspaper. He pointed out that all aliens must not forget that they are "guests in the house of a very hospitable host" and reminded the large number that most of them had chances to become citizens but never went to the trouble. Traffic Accidents Cost California The Sum of $172,550,000 In 1941 Traffic accidents cost Californians the stupendous sum of $172,550,000 in 1941, the Department of Motor Vehicles estimated today. The figure is based on the 49,-500 reportable accidents occurring during the year in which approximately 3,600 were killed and about 70,000 injured. It does not include the thousand of additional smashups that occurred involving only property damage. ECONOMIC LOSS The department's estimate of the economic loss of death alone is $162,000,000, based on the findings of the National Safety council that every life lost in traffic accidents is worth $45,000 to the nation. Property loss for each accident was fixed at an average of $100—a total of $4,950,000. LOSS OF TIME Loss of time from work by the injured was placed at 420,000 working days. At $10 per day this would be a loss of $4200,000 in wages. Medical costs of $20 for each for the injured would add $1,400,000 to the total. BANK ON YOUR COUNTRY US To Be In Forefront of Nations Following Economic Reconstruction By JUDGE CHARLES KUCHEL When this war is over, these United States of America will experience an economic reconstruction of industries that will put this country in the foremost of prosperous nations. The resources of America are gigantic and unlimited. Other countries will come here for supplies and we will reap untold wealth by reason of our ability to furnish the other nations what they do not have provided, of course, they have the money or credit to pay for them. LEADING PARTY Futrthermore, this country would take a leading part in the furtherance of business principles that would put the harrassed European countries upon their feet again. Many of them will naturally look to this country for guidance and we will be in a position to restore prosperity to stricken nations which they will surely need. FUTURE BRIGHT The future is bright and people should look forward to optimism and refrain from anguish and fear. There are bright days ahead for all and therefore we should go onward and upward for the good of all.
