20-30 Club Cagers Slated To Meet Famed Negro Clowns Here Dec. 17
Scheduled to meet the rollicking Broadway Clowns, Negro amateur basketball champions from New York City, in a charity game at Anaheim high school gym Wednesday night, Dec. 17, members of Anaheim’s 20-30 basketball club were working out this week under the direction of Captain Chauncey Woodrome.
Proceeds of the game which will begin at 8 p.m. Wednesday are to go to the 20-30 organization’s charity fund. A top-flight basketball quintet in national cage circles, the clowns bring to Anaheim All “Runt” Pullins, 135-pound forward, an all-city selection from Chicago and past member of the Harlem Globe Trotters; “Clevé” Bray, a six footer just out of Xavier university in New Orleans; Center “Bill” Winters, six foot, four inch cage showman; and Guards “Buzz” Mathews, the clowning clown, and reputedly one of the greatest showmen in basketball, and “Father” Miles, a veteran from the Chicago Crusaders.
According to advance reports the Clowns are recognized by hoop critics over the nation as the greatest group of Negro comedians in the realm of basketball. In practically every city the Clowns appear, the score is of secondary importance, for the plain goofy exhibition of the colored five keep fans howling from the start.
LOCAL LINEUPS
In the 20-30 lineup facing them in addition to forward and Captain Woodrome will be Fred Vail, formerly of Fullerton jaysee; Joe Wilmore, ex-Colorado Aggie; Heyward Minder, and “Willie” Bath, Anaheim athletes, forwards; Archie Baker, one-time Hornet, center; Eugene Montgomery, and Julian Martenez, Santa Ana jaysee; Ray Pomeroy and Kenny Dugan, Anaheim, guards.

According to recommendation at last night's meeting it is quite probable that a more efficient blackout warning signal will be forthcoming immediately than the current three blasts on the city fire whistle, followed by one long blast as the all clear signal.
County officials remarked today that in order to make the county blackout effective, people in rural districts must put out all lights their homes that can be seen from the outside.
It was also pointed out that even though the signal cannot be heard in rural communities, all major radio stations broadcast the blackout signals.
In Anaheim the local fire and police departments are establishing a signal that will have a different note than the regular siren and will be blown three times when blackout is ordered.

BIBLICAL RESARCH
The Saviour's title of "Good Shepherd" traced to the ancients. Recent biblical research reveals that centuries before given to kindly leaders, whose followers were likened to Jesus was born the term was well-tended flocks. Read how this ideal conception of a pastor eventually materialized in Christ's ministry, as told in The American Weekly, the magazine distributed with next week's LOS ANGELES EXAMINER.—(Adv.)

EASY now to save vitamins
THREE OF THE WAYS A CP GAS RANGE WILL HELP YOU SAVE VITAMINS
VITAMIN-SAVING BURNERS. Simmer settings make possible the "waterless" cooking of vegetables, recommended by vitamin authorities.
Use the vitamin-saving features of a CP gas range
NATURE PUT VITAMINS IN FOODS you buy. Don't let improper cooking destroy them! Fortunately, the vitamin-saving way is not only more healthful—but foods actually taste better, too! And the right kind of cooking is so easy with a CP (for Certified Performance) gas range.
CP-BROILED STEAKS, for example, keep tender and full of their natural, vitamin-rich juices. One reason—CP gas broiling requires no preheating—an exclusive feature with gas ranges. There's no preheated broiler grid to "fry" the under side of the meat—to overcook the food and thus destroy vitamins. And vegetables have garden-fresh flavor, cooked the CP "waterless" way. Get full information from a dealer or your gas company.
SOUTHERN COUNTIES GAS COMPANY
WHAT EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW ABOUT VITAMIN-SAVING
1 Use little water in cooking.
2 Cook vegetables for the shortest possible time.
3 Cover utensils to keep air out.
4 Avoid unnecessary stirring of vegetables.
5 Don't put in baking soda to brighten food colors.
6 Don't throw away vegetable liquids—use them in soups or cream sauces.
7 Start vegetables in boiling water.
8 Keep foods as fresh as possible—use dependable automatic refrigeration.
9 Serve plenty of green vegetables.
10 Serve foods soon after cooking.
11 Broiling is preferable to frying to retain vitamins.
12 Low-temperature roasting saves vitamins, minerals.
ALL TYPES OF GOOD COOKING are easier with a CP gas range. Ovens have accurate heat control, light automatically. Top burners give tailored heat, are extra fast. Broilers are smokeless. And the average cost of cooking with gas is only one-third as much as with the next-best method.
