BRIDE-ELECT OF PLACENTIA FETED AT PADUA HILLS Mrs. Mary Melaine Lypps of Placentia was the guest of honor at a luncheon at Padua Hills yesterday given by Mrs. Joseph Carroll and her daughter, Miss Elizabeth Ann Carroll. During the luncheon, a large cake was brought to the table and Miss Lypps was serenaded with wedding songs by the Padua Hills Theatre Players. Later, she was presented with many beautiful gifts of crystal. Miss Lypps is the bride-elect of George Tokar of Buena Park. Mrs. Carroll and Miss Carroll were assisted by Mrs. Victor Lypps, mother of Miss Lypps, and Mrs. John Tokar, mother of the prospective bridegroom. Other guests were the Mesdames Oscar Heying, Ted Eimers, Al Erickson, Bill LeVecke, John Truxaw, Elmer Bruce, Alice Callens, Ernest Ganahl, and Jake Schumacher of Anaheim; the Mesdames Felix Stein, Henry Smith, Henry Kroeger, Paul Nicolas, Joseph Rivers, Henry Parry, Mike Hamman, Ed McManus and Miss Elizabeth Cottem of Fullerton; the Mesdames Lawrence Kraemer, John Wallace and Arnold Kraemer of Placentia; Mrs. Anna Collins and Mrs. Emma Curtin of Atwood; Mrs. Otto Dyckman of Yorba Linda; and Miss Mae Sexton of San Diego. American Legion Auxiliary Has Membership Drive Seventeen members of the American Legion Auxiliary met for their regular dinner and business meeting Tuesday night at the hall. ANAHEIM GAZETTE BACKS DAUGHTER HERE FOR TWO WEEKS VISIT Mrs. Duncan Powers, the former Miss Florence Backs, came down from Sacramento Monday to spend two weeks visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred A. Backs of 317 N. Philadelphia St. Captain Duncan Powers is stationed at Mathers Field near Sacramento, where he is chief operators officer. The young couple are establishing their home in the capitol city. Mrs. Powers has shipped furniture and household goods from the new home the Powers had recently built in Los Angeles. Mrs. Backs will accompany her daughter when she returns to the north and will stay with the Powers for a fortnight. Exports of citrus fruits to the Philippine Islands show a steady increase during the last five years. Shipments in 1936 were valued at only $105,000, in 1938 they increase during the last five years. Topperettes First Anniversary In celebration of the first anniversary of the Topperettes members met at the Sybil Ring at 220 Tuesday evening for a ceremony and made Miss Ring. Smith, who is operating head for Safeway in Orange county. Smith first started with Safeway 20 years ago, serving as salesman to manager and now as supervisor. State Guard Benefit Declared Success Declared by Herbert E. Carter, general chairman, to be a financial success, the benefit party held last Thursday night in the Elks clubhouse for Company K of the California State Guard, drew 250 guests. Approximately 24 prizes, gifts of local merchants, were awarded winners in the several games. Carter expressed the appreciation of his committee for the support of Anaheim citizens, merchants and friends, who participated in the event. The Texas citrus crop is expected to be about as large as last year when approximately 13,500,-000 boxes of grapefruit and 2,600,-000 boxes of oranges were produced. Preliminary maturity tests indicate that the first shipments may start early in October. Las Amigas Group Meets at Watters Home Tuesday Mrs. S. K. Watters was hostess to nine members of the Las Amigas Study club Tuesday afternoon at her home at 306 N. Janss St. Following a regular business meeting, a tea was held with Mrs. Harry Hall and Mrs. M. W. Martinet as pourers. The long tea table was centered with six miniature vases holding tiny flowers. Lovely arrangements of fall flowers decorated the home. On the program was Mrs. C. W. Austin who read the story "Snow Goose" by Paul Gallico. Those present besides the hostess were Mrs. Austin, Mrs. William Small, Mrs. A. Janssen, Mrs. Charles Schweinfest, Mrs. Martinet, Mrs. C. E. Chamberlain, Mrs. H. G. Harling and Mrs. Hall. The study club will meet again November 18. The place has not been decided. Apple and pear crops in Canada are short. Preliminary estimates indicate that the 1941 apple crop will be the lightest in ten years. The Canadian pear crop is the smallest since 1937. Symphonettes Plan Concerts for Future The O. E. Symphonettes met at the home of their sponsor, Miss Ethel Campbell, at 211 N. Clemen tine St., Wednesday evening to plan their November and December concerts. Charlotte Gauer presided during the business hour at which time the resignation of Barbara Hein was accepted. New members taken in were Elise Roquet and Anna Mae Bath. A program featuring trio and piano numbers preceded a social hour when refreshments were served. Those present included Charlotte Gauer, Mildred Bethel, Doris Essary, Myra Fries, Dickie Graham, Gloria Knutsen, Beverly Wagner, Elaine Newton, Shirley Essary, Mary Webb, Anna Mac Bath, Eloise Roquet and Miss Campbell.
