Musical Concert Planned by Club For Blind Benefit
Under auspices of the Fullerton Lions, who will use the proceeds to aid in the purchase of a "Seeing Eye" dog for some deserving blind person, two nationally-known concert artists, Genevieve Wiley and Joseph Leonard, are to appear on a benefit program Wednesday evening, Nov. 5, in the Fullerton union high school auditorium.
The Fullerton club has been promised county-wide aid from other Lions in offering the concert at popular prices, it was announced by George (Duke) Osborne, president of the service club.
Miss Wiley, soloist, and Leonard, pianist, both are blind.
She is a graduate of the Indiana School for the Blind, where her record in the study of piano, harmony and musical theory was considered outstanding. Vocal training followed with Southern California instructors. Blind since early childhood, Leonard made his concert debut in 1922. He is a graduate of the famed Stern Conservatory in Berlin, Germany.
Both have appeared in Hollywood Bowl concerts as well as on stages throughout the United States and abroad. They are residents of Los Angeles.
Tickets are now on sale in Fullerton and may be obtained from any member of the Lions club. They also will be available at the door Nov. 5. The union high school auditorium seats 1,800, and the Lions anticipate a near-capacity crowd for the benefit.
Aid to the blind is one of the major objectives of Lions Inter-

The reception room at the front of the building has been finished in cream and blue and richly furnished.
Now in the process of landscaping are the grounds surrounding the hospital, with the north area leveled ready for planting of lawn and flowers.
The runways, for the reception of patients at the rear of the building, where a county ambulance service has been maintained, have been surfaced.
According to Manager Hilgendorf, the new hospital was ready to accept patients early this week.

NEW TAXES HIT CONSUMER IN EVERY ITEM
Editors Note:—New federal taxes which strike again at the pocketbooks of Mr. and Mrs. Consumer and bring added grief to every branch of the retil and wholesale trade, today leave both groups stumped as to the amount of tax on various articles. Through the courtesy of Secretary John M. Johnston of the Anaheim chamber of commerce who compiled the figures, the Gazette will endeavor to lighten the general public on everyday articles carrying an increase in tax. Taxes on more remote times will not be shown.
Insurance policies have been raised four cents instead of the usual three, while cigarettes receive an added eight percent raise. Retailers of liquor show a tax increase of 10 percent.
Gasoline, which for sometime has carried a majority of the tax burden, has raised from a one cent to a cent and a half tax and lubricating oils have been raised from four cents to four and a malfunds per gallon.
The tax on safe deposit boxes has been raised to 20 percent instead of the usual 10 percent.
Another auto accessory which has been hit hard by the new rate of tires, whose previous federal tax of two and a quarter cents has been raised to five cents. Cubes came in for their raise also, when they got a raise from four cents to nine cents.
Entertainment will run higher than ever as cabarets, roof gardens, etc., now have to charge a percent tax for admission, refreshment, service and merchandise. Nor will it help to hide away at the Elks clubhouse, for a tax equivalent to 11 percent of any amount paid as dues or membership fees to any social athletic or
Speaker Scheduled On Forum Program
In the third of a series of discussions on national and international problems, Capt. Paul Perigord, professor of French civilization at U.C.L.A.will address the Fullerton public forum in the Fullerton high school auditorium next Thursday, Oct. 23, on "Lessons from the Tragedy of France." The discussion will begin at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
The forum is a part of the adult education program of the Fullerton junior college which over 800 usually attend.
The following week Ashley Simms, noted explorer, traveler and lecturer, will address the forum on "What is Happening in Central America?"
sporting club or organization is charged if such fees amount to more than $10 a year.
Automobiles come in for their share with a five percent tax; while tractors pay seven percent.
A tax of 10 percent has been imposed upon radios, phonographs, records and musical instruments. A tax in a like amount has been made on refrigerators, refrigerating apparatus, air-conditioners and on all parts and accessories.
Automatic lighters will become more and more popular with the imposition of a tax on the lowly match of two cents per 1000 matches, except in the case of fancy wooden matches which have been stained, dyed or colored; then the tax is five and a half cents per 1000.
For telephone, telegraph or radio telephone messages, where the charge is more than 24 cents, a tax of five cents for each 50 cents, or a fraction thereof, is the result.
Taxes on installment buying, together with many others, will be outlined briefly next week.
Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Santa Ana Jaysee To Meet Berdoo
Still in high spirits over a 53-0 drubbing handed the reputedly strong Sacramento Athletic club last week, Santa Jaysee Dons this week knuckled down in preparation for their first conference tilt against San Bernardino on the Indian field Friday night.
The tomahawk squad has not shown any exceedingly great power so far this year, falling 13-6 before a smashing air attack by Stockton gridders two weeks ago, and playing cut a scoreless tie with Santa Monica last Friday night. The Dons won a 20-6 game in the last half against the beach team. The only game in the win side of the San Berdoo ledger is a 26-13 beating handed Citrus.

New Telephone Book Deadline Date Near
Although preparation of material for the next telephone directory is under way, there is still time for revision of existing listings and inclusion of additional listings, according to R. J.
