George Washington Faculty Entertained By Executive Board The lovely new patio of the Norman Tessners' home at 403 E. Center St., served as the setting for a noon lunch on Thursday for teachers and guests of the George Washington Elementary School, entertained by the executive board of the school. The red cement floor of the patio blended with the brightly-colored table cloths on which an oxcart filled with Autumn-colored fruits and nuts centered the large table and a miniature wishing well with ivy growing from it centered the smaller table. Guests included M. A. Gauer, superintendent, and his wife; Miss Adelaide Price, school nurse; and Mrs. Carleton Starr, past president of the executive board. Miss Bessie Renner was invited but could not attend because of her school cafeteria duties. Members of the school faculty who were present were V. O. Elliott, Mildred Mauerhan, Esther Larimer, Clara Mork, Kathryn Smith, Bonnie Fields and Carol Martel. Members of the executive board at the luncheon were Mrs. Charles Watters, new president; Mrs. Dick Dickenson, Mrs. Lee Rodgers, Mrs. Evan Alsip, Mrs. Hugh Nitt, Mrs. Harry Fox, Mrs. Carl Palm, Mrs. Paul Black and Mrs. Norman Tessner. This group will meet October 8 for a regular meeting. MRS. BAILEY GIVES DOUBLE LAYETTE SHOWER Mrs. J. E. Bailey was hostess at a double-layette shower given OTS CLUB GIVES CONCERTS TO GRAMMAR SCHOOLS The O. T. Symphonette Club will entertain the Fremont school at 10:30 and the Lincoln School at 11:30 tomorrow morning in the first of a series of concert programs to be given to the Anaheim elementary schools. The club's number is limited to 12 members which include Charlotte Gauer, president; Mildred Bethel, vice president; Doris Essary, secretary-treasurer; Barbara Hein, Myra Fries, Dickie Graham, Gloria Knutsen, Beverly Wagner, Elaine Newton, Shirley Essary, Mary Webb and Anna Mae Bath. Other musical organizations to appear in the program are the Trouveres, the eighth grade girls' Double Sextet and the boys' Double Octet. The program will open with three musical rounds by the chorus, followed by a violin solo by Elaine Newton. The rest of the program reads: Trio number by Dickie Graham, Barbara Hein and Myra Fries; the Symphonettes in two numbers; two trio songs by Beverly Wagner, Dickie Graham and Mildred Bethel; a song by the double sextet; the chorus singing a symphony, accompanied by Mary Webb and Doris Essary on the violins; the Symphonettes nad "Pop Goes the Weasel"; James Friis to play Gold Bless America and Jeannette Hemmerling in "Yankee Doodle"; the Trouveres singing two numbers; and the boys' octet assisted by the Trouveres singing "Concerto in B flat Minor." Miss Ethel Campbell is the director of the musical groups and will be assisted by Mrs. Lois Vail Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority Has Installation Mrs. Myrtle Stuelke, dean of women at Fullerton junior college, turned over her position as president of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, national society for women in education, to Miss Mary Priscilla Allen of Santa Ana at an installation and banquet held in the Ebell clubhouse Monday afternoon. Hostesses and in charge of arrangements were Miss Verna Rigdon and Miss Velda Barnes of Anaheim. Before the installation ceremonies, Mrs. Stuelke was presented with a gift from the sorority, in appreciation for her work as president. Taking office with Miss Allen were Mrs. Edith Thatcher, first vice president; Miss Verna Rigdon, second vice president; Miss Anna Trythall, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Alta Proud, recording secretary; Miss Mabel Whiting, treasurer; and Dr. Mabel Myers, parliamentarian. Ethel Caverly, Lois Dyer, Bernice Jolly, Clara Mork, Velda Barnes, Verna Rigdon and Marguerite Utter were Anaheim members who attended. Rev. Burden Speaks At Business Women's Meeting Thursday The Business and Professional women met with their club president, Miss Marjorie Pibel, Thursday evening at Henry's Drive-in for their regular bi-monthly meeting. Roland Schindler and Bride Return from Las Vegas Ceremony Miss Tressa Schvarze of Los Angeles and Roland Schindler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schindler of Anaheim, were married Saturday evening at Las Vegas with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kirk, also of Anaheim, witnesses to the ceremony. The former Miss Schvarze chose for her wedding ensemble a brown suit with matching accessories and wore a gardenia corsage on her lapel. MARINERS AND GUESTS ENJOY DINNER BANQUET Eighty-five guests and members of the Anaheim Mariner's Club were present at the banquet held in the church basement of the Presbyterian church last night. Guest speaker was Paul Demaree, principal of the high school, who spoke on "The Pursuit of Happiness." Jack Sampico, bass-profundo, accompanied on the piano by his wife, sang two numbers, "Evening Prayer" and "Asleep in the Deep." They were introduced by the program chairmen, Mr. and Mrs. Royal Marten. Master of ceremonies was Safford Minder, skipper of the club. The banquet served on tables that were placed together to form an "M" for Mariners, was preceded by group songs led by Walt Taylor and accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Stanley F. George. It was announced that the next executive board meeting will be next Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Knutzen. Announcement was also made of the circus to be given in the church basement November 5. Chefs for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Wood, Mr. and Mrs. Theo Quarton, Mr. and Mrs. Forest Simonton, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kohlbush, and Mr. and Mrs. Herschel Schneider. The flower committee of the church, assisted by Mrs. Nellie Minder, arranged clever dwarf pots of rainbow-colored dahlias on the tables. Miss Ruth Ellen Taylor, violinist, offered "Old Refrain" and "Romance" and Miss Anna Mae Burks played two piano solos, "At Morn" and "Fascination." Special guests of the club were Mrs. Thomas L. Burden and Miss Jean Shere of Anaheim. Miss Pibel announced that the next meeting will be October 9 Place of meeting was not decided. The executive board met at the home of Mrs. Rose Van Buren at 200 N.Los Angeles St., October 2 St. Michael's Party Culminates Three Days of Celebrating Culminating a three-day celebration of St.Michael's and A Angels Day at St.Michael's Episcopal Church, the potluck dinner and party given Monday evening at the parish house was attended by 75 people.In charge of arrangements were Mrs.Thedore Kuhel and Mrs.Eva Boyd. Following the dinner,a program was presented, opening with Bee Shaw,after which Miss Lo Smith gave a classical toe dance and the Honorable Thomas Kuch spoke on "Forward in Unity." The evening closed with a "free-for-all" spelling bee.Rev.D.Howard Dow acted as school master.Mi Adelaide Price and E.J.Naffzig were winners. Army Corp Man Guest of Honor Las Vegas Ceremony Miss Tressa Schvarze of Los Angeles and Roland Schindler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schindler of Anaheim, were married Saturday evening at Las Vegas with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Kirk, also of Anaheim, witnesses to the ceremony. The former Miss Schvarze chose for her wedding ensemble a brown suit with matching accessories and wore a gardenia corsage on her lapel. The bride is a graduate of elementary and high schools in Los Angeles and Mr. Schindler attended Anaheim schools. They will make their home soon in Los Angeles where the bridegroom is employed. In announcing their marriage to Anaheim friends, Mr. and Mrs. Schindler brought home a copy of the "Las Vegas Gazette" on which was written, "Roland and Tressa Elope—Anaheim Goes Wild!" Dental Auxiliary Has First Meeting The first fall meeting of the Auxiliary of the Orange County Dental Association began last night with a dinner at Danigers' Cafe in Santa Ana, after which the members adjourned to the home of the president, Mrs. G. Stanley Norton, for a business session and program. Guest speaker was Mrs. E. E. Smith of Anaheim. The auxiliary will have a joint meeting with the medical auxiliary on November 4. Mrs. Dodge Feted With Theater Party Mrs. Beatrice Carrier of Anaheim gave a theater party Saturday for her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Betty Dodge, who will leave soon for Nevada City to join her husband there. After seeing the moving picture, the guests enjoyed refreshments at a local malt shop. Guests besides the hostess and honored guest were Mrs. Mary Wright and Mrs. T. L. Hoag, Mrs. R. A. Patrick, of Anaheim, mother of Mrs. Dodge, was invited but could not come. Dow acted as school master. Mi Adelaide Price and E. J. Naffziger were winners. Carroll Rector of Anaheim performed the wedding ceremony of his granddaughter, Miss Anne Whitaker of Anaheim, who was married to Paul Flynn of Fullerton Sunday afternoon at the Pasadena wedding chapel. Miss Whitaker is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Whitaker of Alhambra while Mr. Flynn is the son of the Thomas A. Flynn of Fullerton. The bride wore a white taffeta and net gown with a fingertip veil caught to a lace halo and trimmed with orange blossoms. She carried a bride's bouquet of white carnation and bouvardia with an orchid in the center. The bride's attendants included the matron-of-honor, Mrs. Pat Traylor of Alhambra, and the bridesmaid, Miss Mary Whitaker of Alhambra, sister of the bride. They were dressed in taffeta dresses of harmonizing shades of pink. Their bouquets were of larkspur and pink carnations. Margaret Dyer, cousin of Miss Whitaker, of San Diego, was the flower girl and wore a taffeta dress in a pale pink shade and carried a basket of flowers. Best man was Lloyd Flynn, brother of the bridegroom, and ushers were Jack Watson and Jack Patton of Fullerton. The chapel parlors was the place for the reception, honored by the presence of 150 guests. The bride's mother, wearing an airway blue ensemble, and Mrs. Flynn, mother of the groom, dressed in a rose silk and black accessories, received the guests. The wedding couple left for Laguna where they stayed a few days before making their home at 901 N. Clementine St. Miss Whitaker is a graduate of Alhambra high school and attended Pasadena and Fullerton junior colleges. She is employed in the classified ad department of the Fullerton News, Tribune. Mr. Flynn graduated from both Fullerton high school and junior college. He is employed at Vultee Aircraft, Inc. Young People of White Temple Enjoy Hay-ride Over a half a hundred members of the high school department of the White Temple Methodist Episcopal church enjoyed an evening fashioned hay-ride Friday evening. E. D. Anderson drove the train that pulled the hay-laden wagon. A stop was made at the home of the A. L. Schutz for supplying needed for a weenie bake. Group then stopped at the wash east of Anaheim and roped weeners and marshmallows large banfire. In charge of the event were Frank Kellogg and Wanda Schutz. Daughter of S. L. Hilgenfelds Has New Son Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Nunn are the parents of a seven pound son, Roger David Saturday, September 27 at 1 p.m. in the Alhambra host Sacramento. Mrs. Nunn is the former L. Hilgenfeld, who recently joined her husband in Sacramento when he is engaged in Civil service. Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Hillfield of this city are rejoicing this, their first grandchild. C.I. Neill E. AT LUNCHEON The Junior Auxiliary of the Presbyterian Church gave a benefit luncheon Saturday afternoon in the church dining room with nearly 160 guests being served. Reciving the guests as they entered were Mrs. Eldon Paddock, president of the Auxiliary, gowned in black crepe formal, Mrs. Robert Baker in burnt orange and brown taffeta, Mrs. Ray Reaf-snyder in black net and Mrs. Theo. Quarton in blue taffeta. Each wore a gardenia shoulder corsage. Usherettes for the afternoon were the Mesdames Safford Minder, Herschel Schneider, Stanley F. George, Herbert Dean, John Wood, Lloyd Ross, Henry Schneider, Harry Moore and Miss Katherine Collings. Mrs. Eldon Paddock welcomed the guests, who were seated in foursomes around small tables. Each table was decorated with clever arrangements and centered with fall flowers. Mrs. Robert Baker, program chairman, with her assistant, Mrs. Royal Marten, presented an entertaining program. Mrs. Florence Newkirk of Fullerton played three piano solos, Preludium from "First Modern Suite" by MacDowell; "Nocturne D" by Chopin; and "Dedication" by Schumann-Liszt. Mrs. Robert Horn, a member of the Santa Ana Community Players, read the play, "The Corn Is Green" by Emlyn Williams. The play is a popular one and is now playing in New York City. Members of the auxiliary who aided in planning the affair were Mesdames John Knutzen, Charles Hunt, Harwood Larson; Bert Morley, Forest Simonton, Dorothy Gerlick, Ralph Seward, John Kelsay and Corrine Buzzell. Willers Entertain Monthly Club Mr. and Mrs. Henry Willer of E. Center St., entertained their monthly club at their home recently with a dinner and an evening of cards. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. William Holstein, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Flugee and daughters, Irene and Betty Ann; Mr. and Mrs. George Schreeder and daughter, Aline, and Miss Leona Willer. CLUB RUSH TEA Fifty guests and Junior Ebell members gathered for the club's pre-season rush tea in the lounge of the Ebell clubhouse Sunday afternoon. Hostesses included Mrs. Merle West, Miss Nona Planting, Mrs. Albert Elliott, Mrs. Richard Heffern and Mrs. Laura Gene Frantz, all members of the executive board. Pouring at the tea table, centered with a lovely arrangement of autumn-hued dahlias, were Mesdames Royal Marten, Codo Jones, Albert Raymond and D.Jerry Yongs. Music during the afternoon was provided by George Hedstrom, who played selections from his record library. Earl Boatman reading the vows. Miss Duncan was given in marriage by her uncle, John C. Martens of Anaheim. She wore a white organza gown. Her bridal bouquet was of bovardia, white carnations, gardenias and pink anthurium. Miss Margaret Duncan, the bride's cousin, was maid of honor and was dressed in peach organza. Bridesmaid was Miss Lois Duncan, also a cousin of the bride, wearing a blue organza. Larry Hopkins was the groom's best man and Kenneth Micklejohn and Walter A. Bittner were ushers. A reception was held in the left for a week's stay in Catalina before returning to Glendale where they live. Mr. Howland is employed at the Tool and Dye company in Glendale. Mrs. Howland is a graduate of Anaheim high school and Mr. Howland attended Glendale schools. Miss E. Kate Rea Speaks at Brea Legion Convention Before 150 delegates of the 51st district attending the district convention of the American Legion Auxiliary at Brea, Friday, Miss E. Kate Rea of Anaheim gave an interesting talk and answered questions regarding the Orange County Crippled Children's Relief association, of which she is president. Miss Rea had been asked to appear as guest speaker by the incoming president of the Auxiliary, Mrs. Ada Kirkpatrik of Huntington Beach. Officers for the coming year were installed at the convention.
