Local Resident Turns Pleasure Into Profit; Decade of Effort Results In Recognition
A pleasurable hobby started some ten years ago by A. H. Heying, 863 South Claudina, Anaheim, has gradually developed into a profitable pastime.
Imbued with artistic talent and at a loss for something to occupy his idle time, Heying engaged in that which interested him most; painting. Not the covering over of houses and fences and other things with the preserving material, but the transferring to canvas the beauties of nature and his own creative thoughts. Unskilled in the finer touches of the developed artist, his first productions were rather crude and had he not so strongly felt the urge of creation, discouragement would have been his lot.
Patiently he studied and corrected his faults; experimenting with proper blends of pigment until desired tones were effected. Today he is an artist of no mean ability, as numerous canvasses in his home attest.
Chief among his creations are a chateau and village on Lake Como, Italy; Mt. Rainier, in Washington state; Rincon beach, seven miles above Ventura; scene from the chain of lakes in the Lassen district; and others that show his aptitude. By this time there should be reposing in the Ike Walton cabin, Hillcrest park, Fullerton, a pretty scenic of a stream flowing through a woods, which he presented to the club. At present he is working on a series of pictures, depicting desert, pastoral and woodland, which he has been commissioned to do by a local resident.
In the past three years he has found a ready market for the pictures he has produced, more than half of his creations being in Anaheim homes and elsewhere.
Heying unselfishly dispenses his knowledge to beginners; not a few beginners in Anaheim have received the benefit of his studies and are making progress under his tuition, with no cost to them outside of the materials used.
Somewhat limited as to studio space, his present workshop being part of the home laundry, he intends in the near future to build a commodious studio on the rear of his residence lot, having plenty of light and quiet that he may commence work on a large painting, the theme of which he has been working on for many months.
In daily life Heying is connected with Mutual Citrus Products, pectin and fruit juice department, which enterprise he joined some 13 years ago. He has been a resident of Anaheim for the past 18 years. Lovers of art are always welcome to call at his home, where he is pleased to show the hobby that turned to profit in more ways than one.

The new owner has had the land under lease for some time, grazing several hundred head of cattle thereon. The area purchased extends in a long strip from Olive into the canyon beyond and is considered ideal for pasturage purposes. The monetary consideration was not divulged.
Maybe you'll have to walk. Discomforting prospects of gasoline rationing that might make enforced pedestrians of motorists are discussed by a prominent pediatricist, who gives timely advice about conditioning our pampered feet for the emergency. Read what he has to say on this timely subject in The American Weekly, the magazine distributed with next week's LOS ANGELES EXAMINER.—Adv.
