200 Descendants Honor Anaheim City Founders D. A. R. Sponsors Annual Pioneer Picnic Staged In City Park Saturday Continued from page 1 ents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kroeger. The city then was only five years old and Mrs. Shindler, as a girl, knew intimately all of its founders. GIFTS TO PIONEER HOUSE During the picnic Miss Parker announced the receipt of three gifts for Pioneer House. They were an antique wooden compass used in Anaheim's first and only cooperage house, a handmade pruning knife, and a colored photograph of the Anaheim band of 1883. The picture was contributed by Mrs. Clara Bittner Martin, one of the two girl-members of the band and sole survivor of that group of musicians. Mrs. Martin recalled that the male members of the band had dazzling uniforms of blue, maroon and yards of gold braid, but that similar uniforms were not available for the girls. Whereupon Miss Clara Mosseman an expert needlewoman, came to the rescue, turning out feminine counterparts of the men's uniforms for the two girls. Mr. Don Earl Boatman, pastor of the Church of Christ, was elected president of the Anaheim Ministerial union at the annual election of officers held yesterday at a luncheon meeting at the Marigold cafe. The Rev. Mr. Stanley Fred George, pastor of the Presbyterian church, was elected vice president, and J. B. Wilbur, secretary of the Y. M. C. A., was re-elected secretary-treasurer. Mr. Boatman, who served as vice president of the union during the year just closed, succeeds the Rev. Mr. A. C. Mamath, pastor of the Free Methodist church, as president. So they decided to build a city to their own liking. George Hanson, an engineer, was employed and told to select a site and lay out the town. Hanson selected the site of what is now Anaheim,—then a waste of desert land. LABAN A.WELLS FUNERAL MONDAY Funeral service for Laban Wells, 72, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Lamb House at home in Pasadena. Enment will be in Angeles Mausoleum. Wells, who was 72 years died yesterday at his home Kroeger St. He had been a dent of Anaheim for nine years. Surviving are the widow Lillian M. Wells, and a son O M.
