Miss Juanita Hovenden Becomes Vows Exchanged By Popular Anaheim Couple Dressed similarly in matching tailored suits, Miss Juanita Hovenden and Don Herweh exchanged marriage vows last Saturday evening at the Wee Kirk of the Heather chapel, Glendale. Miss Hovenden is the daughter of Mrs. Ruby Harrison, 116 E. Ash St., Fullerton. Mr. Herwer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Herweh of Prairie City, Iowa. Both young people, however, are well known in Anaheim, where Miss Hovenden was employed by the Anaheim Gazette and Mr. Herweh is affiliated with the Cone Brothers Chevrolet Co. Rev. John Arnold Banks of the Church of Christ, officiated at the single ring ceremony. The bride, who was given in marriage by her grandfather, M. T. Stapp, was attended by Miss Barney Smith of Santa Ana. Serving Mr. Herweh, as best man, was Kenneth Banks, brother of the officiating minister. Setting off her navy blue suit, the bride wore a white orchid corsage and a cameo broach which she borrowed from Miss Elaine Breeden. This broach had been in Miss Breeden's family for three generations. The friends and relatives who were in attendance were entertained before the ceremony with organ music. Among the numbers played were, "Interlude," "Oh! Promise Me," and "Annie Laurie." Following the ceremony the young couple made a wish at the famous MRS DON HERWEH NEWSY NOTES Daughter is Born A daughter was born at St. Joseph hospital last Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. Arval Morris, RFD 4, box 26. She has been named Catherine, and her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Morris and Mrs. E. Geer Stanley. The Morrises also have a son, Steven. Chaplins Enetrtain Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Chaplin, Rose Marie Apts., entertained with a house party Saturday evening. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sawyer of Grand Coolee Dam, Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Flower Show Highly Praised By Spectators The Ebell Flower show proved to be the outstanding success it was predicted with prizes being given to more than 200 individuals. Features causing a great deal of comment included the craft section, the Garden club exhibit, and the display of new and unusual plants and flowers. Plans are now underway for a larger and better show for the coming year. The success of this affair proves the value of such a function to the community, and its continuation will be appreciated by the citizens. Returns To Pioneer House The first meeting of the Mother Colony chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in their Pioneer House on North West St., since the house was wrecked several weeks ago, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. Mrs Willis Maple, regent of the Mojave chapter of Fullerton, will install the new officers at this meeting. Mrs. David Toms, who has charge of the program, has chosen West Indies as the theme for the meeting. Hostesses for the day are Mrs. Honor Easton and Mrs. Albert Karlen. Members are urged to be prompt. Mrs. Maude Adams Hostess to Group Mrs. Maude Adams was hostess to the past matrons of the Chispa chapter of the O. E. S. at the home of Mrs. Eva Boyd, Monday evening. The house was decorated with spring flowers. After a 6:30 pot luck supper, the business meeting and cards were the evening's diversion. Edward Daniel on Visit Edward T. Daniel, former zanjero with the Anaheim Union Water company but now stationed with the U. S. navy at San Francisco, spent a few days in Anaheim last week end on a visit. Rcld Kills Rattler Vernon Rold, Alpha Beta butcher, killed a five and one half foot brown rattle snake, Sunday at St. Matthews dam. Church Dinner Planned The Church of Christ will hold a chicken dinner, Thursday, May 15, in the basement of the church. Serying will begin at 6 p.m. Mrs. Clara Bowen and Mrs. Blanche McClellan will be hostesses for the evening. The public is invited. Tickets may be obtained at the door. Brunworths Have Guests Miss Ida Matter of Pasadena, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kroeger and Henry Kroeger, Mrs. James Van Maren and Miss Katheryn Van Maren, all of Fair Oak, Calif., were the weekend guests of Mrs. Pauline Brunworth and Miss Evelyn Brunworth. Mrs. Kroeger Gaes Home Mrs. Louis Kroeger, who has been confined at St. Joseph hospital, returned to her home in Fair Oaks, Calif., with her family, Sunday, after a week end at the Brunworth home. Mrs. Helmsen Has Guest Miss Minnie Doty of Riverside was the guest of Mrs. Jane Helmsen, Tuesday. Raymond Will Preside As President of Anaheim Ebell Club Next Year The coming installation next month of the Anaheim Ebell club will place in office, Mrs. Albert Raymond, who was elected as president of the group at the luncheon meeting held Monday at the clubhouse. Mrs. Raymond was the group's delegate to the federation convention, and has been active for several years. Her staff officers are Mrs. Earl Curtis, vice-president; Mrs. C. O. Lewis, second vice-president; Mrs. M. L. Fort, recording secretary; Mrs. Paul Davidson, corresponding secretary; Mrs. W. P. Hall, treasurer; Mrs. Charles Pearson, auditor; Mrs. H. D. Newkirk, curator; Mrs. C. W. Austin, parliamentarian; Mrs. George Paige, Mrs. H. G. Carlin and Mrs. D. Jerry Youngs, trustees. Mrs. Hattie Spencer of San Francisco, a charter member and the second presidet of the Anaheim club, was introduced during the meeting as a special guest. Others introduced included the club sponsored Girl Scout troop from Horace Mann school, Mrs. Ernest Ganahl, Girl Scout commissioner; Mrs. Roy Helsing, cub Scout representative and Miss Velma McClanahan, assistant leader. Party Compliments Juanita Hovenden A miscellaneous shower was given in honor of Miss Juanita Hovenden by Miss Barney Smith and Mrs. O. H. Stapp at Mrs. Stapp's home, 832 Cypress St., Santa Ana, Thursday evening. White watonias, lilies and sweet peas formed the beautiful decorations used for the occasion. Appropriate games were played. Among those present were Mrs. Miss Mabel Hansen Weds James Taylor At Redlands Sunday Rev. R. Kells Swenerton, formerly of Anaheim, now of the Redlands First Methodist church performed the single ring ceremony at his church parsonage. Miss Mabel Hansen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Hansen, 412 Olive St., and James E. Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Taylor, 321 S. Olive St., Sunday afternoon. The bride was charmingly atticed in a powder blue street dress with which she wore dark blazers accessories. She carried a hard berchief belonging to her grandmother that was over 50 years old to keep the tradition of "something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue." She wore a beautiful orchid sage at her shoulder. The maid of honor, Miss Etna Mathis, was attired in a dusty pink street dress. She wore a spotted corsage of mystery gardenias and spephanopsis. The bridesmaid Miss Alice Hansen, the bride sister, wore a beige suit, set up by a simple spray corsage of mystery gardenias. Everett Granere attended bridegroom as best man. Following the ceremony, wedding party dined at the Mission Inn at Riverside. The couple finally got away on a shuttle.Upon their return they reside at 118 S. Olive St., Apt. Miss Hansen received all of Special Drill Team Entertains Rebekahs A special drill team entertained the members of the Lois Rebakah lodge at their regular meeting, Friday evening. This team is to take part in the Rebekah assembly to be held in Santa Cruz, from May 12 to 16. Visitor at the meeting was Mrs. Anna Springer, Recou, New Mexico. Mrs. Mabelle Ives made a report on the Theta Rho assembly held at Sacramento. Anaheim members belonging to the drill team are Mrs. Bessie Curtis, Mrs. Ora Horn, Mrs. Myrtà Saunders, Mrs. Btrehyle Reisinger, Mrs. Bonnie Miller, Mrs. Marie Cannon, Mrs. Violet F. Reception Held At Siegel Home Following the program at the Anaheim union high school, Tuesday evening, 45 parents and pupils of the Anaheim Conservatory of Music met at the home of Mrs. Anna Siegel, school director, for a social hour. Mrs. Siegel was presented with a beautiful basket of flowers by her pupils. Refreshments were served by Pricilla Orman, Mrs. Siegel's granddaughter, and Mrs. Ruth Ellen Taylor. Assistance League Luncheon Today Mrs. F. A. Yungbluth, 815 Broadway, Mrs. J. Wallace, Mrs. Homer Ames were co-tresses at the luncheon meeting the Assistance League today; the Yungbluth home. Following the luncheon, business meeting began with a report of the nominating committee. This room, which was beautifully decorated with birthday emblems, contained 50 tables in play at bridge. Many who could not attend for the bridge session arrived at four o'clock for tea. Ten large birthday cakes centered with tall yellow candles and gaily wrapped in yellow cellophane were used on the stage. Those were used later in the afternoon as bridge prizes. The reception line was headed by Mrs. Ted Kuchel, present guild directress and Mrs. D. Howard Dow, Mrs. Earle Jackson, Mrs. Hugo Schulz and Mrs. Harry Wilhelm, now of Downey. Miss Betty Crane, Mrs. A. A. Newland and Miss Mary Reasoner, were in charge of the decorations for the affair: Mrs. Robert Easton and Mrs. Harry I. Horn were in charge of ticket sales. Mrs. Thomas Thompson headed the refreshment committee, aided by Mrs. Earl Jackson, Mrs. Wilson Phelps and Mrs. Daqa Newkirk. Refreshments were served by the Mesdames Cortez Hoskins, C. R.
