ANAHEIM GAZETTE Established 1870 ORANGE COUNTY'S OLDEST NEWSPAPER HENRY KUCHEL, Editor and Publisher 1887-1935 The Anaheim Gazette has been owned and edited by the same family since 1875. Published every Thursday at 259 East Center Street, Anaheim, Calif. Subscription Per Year ...$2.00 Six Months ...$1.00 MRS. HENRY KUCHEL THEODORE B. KUCHEL Editors and Publishers Entered as second-class matter at the Post Office at Anaheim. California, under the Act of March 8, 1879. SPRING IS HERE With Easter now past the weather man assures all that spring has really come to stay. We can now look back on our record rainfall, call it unusual, and smile. Generally speaking Easter business in Anaheim showed an improvement over a year ago. As is always the case, our more enterprising merchants showed the greatest gain. Proper and aggressive merchandising will always bring satisfactory results if done in a really intelligent manner. The valencia harvest, due to start soon, promises to be the best in several seasons. We mean in the per-box returns to the grower. We can also figure on increasing packers payrolls, which is always a large factor in our local summer business. These payrolls may not be as large as with the tremendous crop of last year but they will be felt immediately when the first valencias start to move. If the growers' return comes up where we believe it will, Anaheim will profit accordingly. Our agricultural empire stands to share in the benefits of the far-flung rearmament program. National defense payrolls have created a new and rapidly growing army of genuine consumers. Selective service, which already has mobilized more than one million men for military training, has brought into being—as anyone who knows the army can tell you—a formidable host of voracious appetites. Millions of pounds of fruit and vegetables will be necessary to fill the demand. To maintain our standard of living while we are arming will tax, we believe, the productive capacity of our ranches. Lorraine Moon and Michael F. Bingham Exchange Vows Nuptual mass was spoken by Lorraine Moon, daughter of Michael F. Bingham, Bingham of Santa Ana, wife Father Henry W. Cross officiated at the St. Boniface church, Monday morning. The church was beautifully decorated with Easter lilies in the occasion. At the breakfast the bride cut three tiered wedding cake shared the first piece with bridegroom. After the reception the couple left for a wedding to Arizona, Grand Canyon, San Francisco.
