Anaheim, Calif., Feb. 20, 1941 Miss Vanice Taber Becomes First Quiet Ceremony Conducted Before Two Witnesses Surprising their many friends, Miss Vanice Taber and Ralph Wetzel were married Saturday at Las Vegas, Nev., in a quiet ceremony. Escorting them were Mr. and Mrs. James Bush of Tustin. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Taber of Anaheim and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. O Wetzel of Corona. The bride was dressed in a street costume of turquois, trimmed with light beige and wearing gardenias at her shoulder. Judge Brown of Las Vegas officiated. The bride is a graduate of Anaheim union high school and attended Fullerton junior college. Her husband attended Tustin and Santa Ana schools, and is a rancher in Tustin district. He is well known for his activities in baseball and basket ball. The quartet came by the way of Boulder Dam from Las Vegas and the newly-weds have established residence at 106 North A St., Tustin. Popular Bride-Elect Feted by Friends On the heels of the announcement of her engagement to Ralph Wheaton came a surprise shower for Miss Netilee Hoskins held Friday evening at the home of Miss Naomi Wheaton, East South St. Betty Zitzmann was co-hostess with Miss Wheaton. Blue delphinium, pastel sweet- MRS. ELLIOTT HOSTESS TO GROUP Mrs. Arthur Elliott was hostess Tuesday to a group of friends meeting for a luncheon-bridge at the Hilton hotel in Long Beach. The buffet lunch was served in the Sky room, after which the guests adjourned downstairs for bridge. Capturing prizes were Mrs. Dick Glover, Mrs. Kenneth Walker, Mrs. John Kennedy of Santa Monica and Mrs. F. Birtcher. Pre-Nuptial Shower Fetes Marion Wisser Three hostesses arranged a lovely pre-nuptial shower for Miss Marion Wisser Monday at the home of Mrs. Emillie Wisser, 150 S. Lemon St. The hostesses were Mrs. Mary Schneider, Miss Emma Wisser and Miss Alice Wisser. Cards were the diversion of the evening, with prizes going to Mrs. Ruth Harbell and Mrs. Ed Hund. Refreshments were served after Miss Wisser opened her many gifts. White Temple’s Birthday Banquet Scheduled Tonight Birth months of 250 guests will be celebrated tonight (Wednesday), when the White Temple Methodist church holds its birthday dinner at the church dining hall. Job’s Daughters Officer Plans Visit Betty Rodieck presided over the regular meeting of the Anaheim Job’s Daughters organization when it met at the Masonic hall Monday. Plans were made for a cooked food sale in March and the grand guardian of California’s visited to Anaheim March 17. Mrs. Jane Weir of San Francisco is the official scheduled to make her call on the local chapter. In April a beach party will be held. Mrs. Ruth Lawrence of Burbank, deputy grand guardian, made her official visit Monday. Refreshments were served at the conclusion of the meeting by Ethel Roberts, Barbara Cross and Beverly Bowen. Anaheim YLI Greets Grand President A hearty welcome was extended Bernice Etcheber, grand president of the YLI from San Francisco, when the Anaheim organization held a dinner Friday evening at the Odd Fellows' hall. Red and white dominated the color scheme, carried out in the sweetpeas and stocks on the "U" shaped table. Past presidents of the YLI were in charge of activities. Table chairmen were Mrs. Jack Burkhard and Mrs. John Kirsch. Marie Robinson was in charge of ceremonies, and members of the YLI flag team escorted the honored guest to her seat. Miss Agnes Callens, president of the local chapter, opened the meeting. Initiation of 14 new members took place after the delicious dinner. They will remain in New Orleans for three weeks. Stockwells Have Son A son, Glen Edward, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Stockwell Monday at the St. Joseph's hospital. They have an older child, Lloyd Keith, three years old. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Felton, formerly of Anaheim, and Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Stockwell of Webster St. Daughter is Born A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Earl F. Requarth of 315 S.Walnut St. at St. Joseph's hospital Sunday. Lois Rebekahs to Meet The Lois Rebekah lodge will hold its regular meeting Friday at the Odd Fellows' hall. Mrs. Hazel Ryan, district deputy president, will make her official visit. Anaheim Boy at Manila Leland Woodward, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earle Woodward, on his basketball-playing tour of the Phillipines, reports from Manila that his team has won three out of four games. During the trip over the ship passed through the edge of a hurricane, Mr. Woodward said. Woodwards on Trip Mrs. Booth at Hospital Mrs. C. M. Booth underwent an eye operation recently at the St.Joseph's hospital. Her condition is Daughter is Born A daughter, Charlene Louise, was born Monday morning to Mr. and Mrs. Warren Schutz at the Fullerton General hospital. Earl R. Berg of the Calvary Baptist church attended the Los Angeles Baptist Ministers' conference Monday. Tuesday he spoke over the Union Rescue Mission broadcast and at the noonday service. Olive St. Greeting the guests and assisting serving were Mrs. Ralph DeckMrs. Lydia Olson, Mrs. A. G. James and Mrs. Michael Maley, all nieces of the couple. Shenk was gowned in a dress dark blue and wore a corsage of hands at her shoulder. The gold motif was carried out the floral arrangements of rancas, Jonquils and talisman s. Punch and a wedding cake was served throughout the openhouse hours to the guests, who bereed over 100. Mr. and Mrs. Shenk were marrifey February 17, 1891, at Fhawano, where they lived for 30 years. They established residence in Analan in 1921 and have lived here the same house since that date. Mrs. and Mrs. Shenk received very lovely gifts and flowers during the day and received telemails from relatives in the east. Colonial Tea Held at Hall Home Dressed in colonial costume, Mrs. H. H. Hall greeted her guests, members of the Las Amigas study, yesterday at her home at 733 N. Clementine St. for tea and a George Washington program. The house was cleverly appointed in the colonial theme, and cherry tarts were served at tea. During the program section, Mrs. H. G. Harling took Mrs. Charles Schweinfest's place as program chairman and presented Mrs. William Small, who reviewed an article on Lincoln from the Christian Science Monitor. She also gave a review of Washington's career. Mrs. C. W. Austin gave a short talk on "Transportation in South America," and Mrs. Harling reviewed the book, "Orchid Hunters" a story of two youths "prospecting" for orchids in South America. Mrs. Frank Miller was special guest. Ann Judson Circle Meets at Berg Home The Ann Judson circle of the Calvary Baptist church met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Earl R. Berg, 937 N. Dickel St., for a luncheon and program. The purpose of the meeting was to aid in White Cross missionary work. Mrs. Frank Stanway was in charge of the program and devotionals. Present were Mrs. Stanway, Mrs. F. D. Lockman, Mrs. W. E. Bartlett, Mrs.Mina Wilson, Mrs. Charles Hollingshead, Mrs. George Hempshall, Mrs. Will Pebley, Mrs. Mrs. Eldon Paddock To Head Auxiliary Mrs. Eldon Paddock was hostess Monday evening to members of the Junior Women's Auxiliary of the Presbyterian church at her home on North Dickel St. Mrs. Lloyd Ross, nominating, committee chairman, named the new officers which were voted upon and will be installed at the next meeting, to be held at the home of Mrs. Royal Marten March 17. They are Mrs. Eldon Paddock, president; Mrs. Robert Baker, vice president; Mrs. Ray Reafsnyder, secretary, and Mrs. Theo Quarton, treasurer. A "White Elephant" sale was conducted by Mrs. Robert Baker, after which Mrs. D. Jerry Youngs reviewed "The Nazarene," by Scholem Asch. Refreshments served in the patriotic motif concluded the meeting, with Mrs. Richard Wise and Mrs: Baker in charge of the refreshments. Twenty-eight members enjoyed the meeting. Girl Scouts Meet At Jackson Home Benjamin Franklin Girl Scout troop No. 6 met Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Earle Jackson, 540 S. Clementine St. An entertaining program held the 26 guests spellbound during the evening. Troop mothers present were Mrs. Everett Cone, Mrs. Charles Evans, and Mrs. L. E. Middleton. Troop leader is Miss Alice Williamson. A valentine box was enjoyed, and appropriate refreshments served. Agnes Guild Dance Successful Mt. Agnes Guild members held their pre-lenten dance Saturday night at the Santa Ana Country Club, hostessing the affair which was enjoyed by 100 couples. Ray Ramon's orchestra played during the evening. The hall was decorated in the spring motif, with each blossoms lending a gay atmosphere. Greeting the guests were Mrs. and Kuchel, directress, Miss Betty Jane, ticket chairman, and Mrs. Robert Rossberg, general chairman.
