He used a map in showing the locations of calls answered in Orange county during the last month. He discussed the cost of maintaining and equipping an ambulance. Alkire stressed the advantage of two-way radio service in law enforcement cars, as it enables the ambulance drivers to notify hospitals in advance of their coming. One Out of 18 in County on Relief In Orange county one out of every 18 persons was on state or county relief in November, according to a study of welfare just completed by the California Tax-payers' association. In all, 7,213 persons were listed on SRA, county indigent, aged, children, and blind aid rolls in November, the association found. The figures do not include those persons receiving aid through federal agencies, such as the WPA, FSA, CCC, and NYA. Cost of the aids in the county included in the study for the one month of November totalled $164,809, the association stated. Over the state as a whole, expenditures for the federal, state, and local welfare skyrocketed during the past decade from $24,-279,391 in 1929-30 to $232,178,081 for 1938-39, with a small drop to $227,168,353 for 1939-40, the association found. FOR PICTURE FOLDERS, INFORMATION, RESERVATIONS, CALL SANTA FE TICKET OFFICE COLONISTS MEET NEWPORT BEACH FRIDAY; HORNETS FACE RIVERSIDE Coach Dick Ryan's Anaheim high school basketballers have their work cut out for them tomorrow night when they tangle with Newport Harbor Tars in the second game of a double-header at the local gym. Class B teams play the opener at 7 p.m. The Tars are coming to Anaheim with a perfect record as far as sunset league play is concerned, having won two games to tie with Huntington Beach for the top spot. They are fresh from a 40 to 20 victory over Excelsior last week end. The Colonists dropped their first Sunset game in three starts last Thursday night, bowing to Orange, 18 to 10. Ryan's boys were obviously off form in that contest and are anxious to get back into the running for the championship. Defeat tomorrow night would virtually eliminate the Colonists from title consideration. Next week end Anaheim draws a bye and meets the Santa Ana Jaysee reserves. On Tuesday, Feb. 11, the Colonists go to Jordan for a league contest, and then wind up the regular schedule the following Friday by entertaining the powerful Huntington Beach five. Chief attention this week end in the junior college conference is centered on Fullerton, when the Hornets will face the challenge of Riverside tomorrow. The two clubs are tied at the top of the Eastern Empire conference with two victories and no defeats. On the same night, Santa Ana, with one win and one loss, goes to Pomona to meet a Cossack team with the same record. Fullerton had a breeze at San Bernardino last Friday, winning over a weak Indian five by a 55-29 score. Reserves played most of the second half after the regulars had rolled up a 34 to 12 margin at half-time. Santa Ana won themselves a lot of followers by losing a spectacular 69 to 61 decision to San Diego State reserves. The battle went into two overtime periods before the Dons finally bowed. Unemployment insurance paid eligible workers in Orange county in December, 1940, totaled $130,-765, according to announcement made today by Roy Ferguson, manager of the Santa Ana office of the California department of employment. Ferguson said 10,348 checks were distributed in this area, compared to 11,039 checks in December, of 1939. In December a year ago, insurance claimants in this area received $109,159. Statewide figures included a total of 381,334 checks, totaling $5,249,873 were distributed throughout California in December, 1940, compared to 341,672 checks in the amount of $3,612,-112 in December, 1939. Placements in the Santa Ana office in December totaled 262, compared to 117 a year ago. Fullerton had a breeze at San Bernardino last Friday, winning over a weak Indian five by a 55-29 score. Two Anaheim Men Receive Sentences Vincent Paul Elizalda, 28, was sentenced to county jail for one year and given five years' probation when he pleaded guilty last week end before Superior Judge Kenneth E. Morrison to a morals offense against a 12-year-old Anaheim girl. During the same court session, Judge Morrison sentenced a 17-year-old Anaheim youth to Preston school of industry until he is 21 years old, or until the court decides to grant him a parole. The youth admitted stealing a car in Laguna Beach and wrecking it in Santa Ana. A new road in northern Australia crosses 600 miles of desert. "So I chose a Gas Range – it assures me EASIER COOKING!"
