Additional Relief Going to Greece Purchase of an additional $500,-000 worth of war relief supplies for Greece was announced this week by the American Red Cross. Red Cross relief to Greece now totals $725,000. The announcement followed receipt of cable advices from Charles House, newly appointed American Red Cross representative at Athens. His cable described growing needs for food, clothing and medical supplies among the civil and military population. On the basis of House's reports the Red Cross plans to send at the earliest moment the following supplies: $140,000 worth of clothing, $100,000 worth of dehydrated milk, $100,000 worth of blankets, $100,000 worth of cereals, cocoa, fruit juices, syrup and margerine, and medical supplies valued at $60,000. If the Red Cross can obtain the supplies in time, they will leave New York for Athens December 28 aboard a Greek vessel. On This 16th day of December Alien Draft Law For State Session Assemblyman Lee Bashkari Introduce Bill During January Session The drafting of aliens for military activity was recently by Assemblyman Lee Bashkari who introduced the measure at theary session of the legislature. Paralleling the provisions National Draft act, Bashkari measure would make alien between the ages of 21 and 34 to call as are the citizen's state. Impartial draft boards were set up, aliens wold register quotas would be called from countries in the same port as in the citizen's draft. They would be used for public work such as building and training strategic military units and highways. Aliens in civilian service receive the same rate of pay the same food, be similarly catered, receive the same care and have the same prices as citizens in military service. The state director of works would assure the dule civilian service administrator increase in salary and other departments would be called to assist in the administration act. "At the present time it is obviously unfair to call into only the citizens of our Bashkara said. "Such a situation places a premium on being alien." Meanwhile, drugs and surgical instruments valued at $50,000 were en route to Greece from a British Red Cross depot in the Middle East. Arrangements for the shipment were made by the American Red Cross which will replace the British supplies. To assist in the distribution of American Red Cross supplies in Greece, Raymond T. Schaeffer, formerly of the Red Cross staff in France, has been assigned to Greece, it also was announced. Schaeffer is now in Lisbon en route to Greece. Aid to Greece is being extended through funds contributed to the Red Cross war relief fund and through purchases made by the government from funds appropriated by congress, it was explained. The Greek Red Cross has cabled gratitude for American Red Cross assistance.“We feel heartily grateful to you and all American people for your generous contribution to our work,” it read. Shore, Glendora, who will introduce the measure at the January session of the legislature. Parallelling the provisions of the national Draft act, Bashore's measure would make aliens between the ages of 21 and 35 subject to call as are the citizens of state. Impartial draft boards would be set up, aliens wold register and notas would be called from the countries in the same porportion in the citizen's draft. The man would be used for public defense work such as building and maintaining strategic military roads and highways. Aliens in civilian service would receive the same rate of pay, eat the same food, be similarly sheltered, receive the same medical care and have the same privileges citizens in military service. The state director of public works would assure the duties of civilian service administrator at no increase in salary and other state departments would be called upon to assist in the administration of the act. "At the present time it is obviously unfair to call into service only the citizens of our state," Shore said. "Such a situation faces a premium on being an alien." While our citizens are drafted information charging grand theft will be filed in superior court next Friday against Rudolph Romero, 23, Ralph Romero, 26, both of 422 South Palm street, who were held to answer at the close of a preliminary examination Saturday morning in City Judge Frank Tausch's court. The two brothers were arrested Thursday evening while assertedly in the act of stealing a motorcycle belonging to Charles F. Barnhart of 721 North Palm street. They were pushing the vehicle along Claudina street when apprehended, police said. Five cities showed a total decrease of $434,012. Cities with gains were Fullerton, $146,057; Laguna Beach, $120,042; La Habra, $34,843; Newport Beach, $177,497; Placentia, $5225; San Clemente, $120,616; Seal Beach, $221,682. The increase in the county building department's permits was $434,012. The cities with decreases were Anaheim, $71,931; Brea, $12,795; Huntington Beach, $67,551; Orange, $18,404; Santa Ana, $174,-434. The total decrease was $345,-115, the net increase being $914,-839.
