The county agreed to give the exclusive flying school privileges which had long been the crux of official disagreement. Under the lease, the county will allow Martin $800, to be applied on his first eight months rent for the old hangars he has. It thus abandons any effort to remove them to the new field. The rent will be $100 monthly for the two years, with the operator to pay all utilities and in addition burn border lights at the fenced from dusk until 2 a.m. daily. Option for renewal is for three years, at rent not to exceed $3 monthly, but the option does not provide for exclusive flying school privileges. The Martin-Hager combination now operating the civilian flight training program of the San Ana junior college and a private flying school as well will continue in this exclusive privilege at the new field and in addition will have exclusive right to organize charter parties and trip give ground school instruction give private flying instruction accepting those connected with sales of new planes, have exclusions WANTED—MISC. In other words, those Don and Hornet supporters figure the next month is just the lull before the storm which will break over the Fullerton stadium on Thanksgiving day, and out of which will come the conference champion. What started out (so the experts thought) to be a four-way battle among Santa Ana, Chaffey, Riverside and San Bernardino rapidly developed into headache for followers of all but the Dons, and a sugar-coated pill for friends of the surprising Hornets. In two games, Chaffey has been licked twice, San Bernardino has split even, and Riverside has the same record. Santa Ana and Fullerton, in only one conference apearance each, are already rated as virtually sure things to battle for the title. The road ahead may be rocky, however, for both squads. The Dons, elated over their 26 to 0 conquest of Chaffey, move over to Riverside tomorrow night to battle with a gang of Tigers who were whipped 14 to 7, last Friday by Fullerton. Whether the sting of the unexpected defeat will make them mad enough to trip the Dons is a matter for spectulation. Against the Hornets, the Bengals at times looked like a mighty powerful club, and at other times looked rather mediocre. The same Young Republican Day Held Monday Wendell Willkie Boosted at Rally and Dance at Fullerton A torchlight parade and rally climaxed with a dance attended by more than 350 young people marked the celebration of National Young Republican Day when the Young Republicans of Orange county were hosts to the county Monday night in Fullerton. Dr. and Mrs. Clarence Ranney were winners of the $10 prize awarded for the best entry in the parade. Wendell L. Willkie, Republican presidential candidate, greeted young people all over the nation in a national broadcast from Milwaukee, and the Orange county group rallied at St. Mary's hall to hear the message. The Republican nominee said that youth must be put back to work, and emphasized the need of free enterprise. "I want to thank you Young Republicans for the work in this campaign. Their tireless energy has been of vast importance in this crusade. Young Republicans of America; I say to you tonight, 'keep going.' With your help, I predict victory on Nov. 5. We've got them on the run," encouraged Willkie. The nominee remarked that there are twenty million young people between the ages of 16 and 25, and about three or four million are unemployed. In stressing free enterprise, he said "The kind of enterprise that makes America really strong is private enterprise... That kind of enterprise does not normally..." Whether the sting of the unexpected defeat will make them mad enough to trip the Dons is a matter for spectulation. Against the Hornets, the Bengals at times looked like a mighty powerful club, and at other times looked rather mediocre. The same thing can be said of the Yellow-jackets, which may mean that both were playing their best brand of ball at all times and that the difference was simply the normal changes in fortune that can be expected when two evenly-match teams mix. The Tigers could beat the Dons, but it isn't likely. The same thing can be said of San Bernardino's chances against Fullerton on the former's grid tomorrow night. The Indians edged out Chaffey, 7 to 6, in their opener, and then bowed to Pomona by the same score last week. Using the faulty comparative score basis, that makes the Hornets about four touchdowns better than the Brayes, in view of Riverside's 19 to 0 win over Pomona two weeks ago. I think it doubtful if Coach Ed Goddard would allow his squad to roll up a four-touch-down margin on any team. The above statement is simply a guess based upon two incidents witnessed in the past two weeks. On both occasions the Hornets had excellent scoring opportunities after the contest was clinched, and each time Goddard sent in substitutes for key men and no score was made. It looked to this writer that the Hornet's mentor did not want his team to score, but we may be mistaken. Narrow victories over such foes as Pasadena and Riverside allow for better pep talks to the squad than do more decisive wins. It normally results in growth." "Where are the days, my fellow Americans, when we could boast of our great ability to create wealth and opportunity through the art of peace?" he continued, naming bold adventure of capital and mind, inventive genius and imagination. "And I say to you with the utmost seriousness: We shall never get that kind of America if we expect the government—any government—to give it to us. If we want that kind of America we must go out and build it for ourselves... The only way we can have peace is to become strong. We must become strong not alone in arms, but in our lives and in our work. We must become strong in the arts of peace—the arts of industry and the pursuit of happiness," Willkie concluded.
