Phillip This hobby is a pleasant one requiring so little time and labor; fishes are neither noisy nor dirty they don't track mud into the house nor scatter birdseed around. A little reading and observations is all that is necessary. Some species build nests and guard the eggs and babies. The Egyption mouth breeder carries its eggs in its mouth, taking no food until the eggs are hatched and then in cases of danger swim back into the mouth. The Chanchito scoops out a nest in the sand for its babies and when the youngsters are big enough to swim, parades around the tank, the mother leading the procession with the young fry in the center and the father bringing up the rear. The little Chanchinitos are allowed to swim in the day time.At night the parents stow them into the nest. The Paradise Fish constructs a nest composed of a pile of bubbles floating on the surface of the water. The Guppies,Swordtails and others of the viviparous group bring forth their young alive. One can go away and leave the fish uncared for for days at a time providing the temperature does not change more than reasonable limits They will be swimming around on your return probably benefited by having gone somewhat hungry for a short time.More aquarium fish are overfed than underfed. Too many fish in one aquarium is the most common mistake that beginners make When fishes stay near the surface of the water sucking air conditions of the aquarium are not right. An aquarium having proper air-water surface in proportion to its volume and number and size of the fish within it will not need to have the water changed more than once or twice a year. Aquatic plants are not expensive There are several varieties, the following are the best oxygenators: Sagittaria,Anacharis,Vallisneria. There are a number of species which get along nicely in the temperature of the ordinary living-room provided that it does not become uncomfortably cool at night If the temperature falls below 55 degrees, the fish in a small aquarium are easily kept warm by immersing the lower part of a lighted electric light blub in Anaheim Graduates Seek Higher Work (Continued from Page 1) field, Edwin Wisser, Betty Zitzman. Milan Miller of Santa Ana is general chairman of the county-wide function, while Archie A. McCormick will be in charge of Anaheim's contribution to the dinner and entertainment. Athletics Beaten By May Company May Company of Los Angeles, only club to conquer the Anaheim Athletics during the summer campaign, turned the trick again last Sunday by scoring an 8 to 7 victory over Manager Joe Huarte's club. Wildness on the part of Jim Glimpse in the fourth inning set the stage for a five-run outburst that cinched the contest for the May company nine. He hit two batsmen and walked another to load the bases before getting a man out, and two singles, a fielder's choice and an error completed the damage. Manager Berle Horn's crew got Headlines Between the (Continued from Page 1) Nazism and aiding in the blockade of Europe, including France itself. Other Frenchmen are reported to be working to build air bases for the use of the Germans in France, and French engineers and technicians are said to have gone to factories in Germany, apparently of their own free will, to aid the Nazi cause. Are these men traitors? According to the old standards they most certainly are. Yet the Vichy government does not so describe them. On the contrary, Petain's regime denounces as traitors those Frenchmen who followed General de Gaulle in his continuing fight against dictatorship. That the Frenchmen willing to aid Hitler are only a microscopic minority there can be no doubt that the swing of French colonies away from the submission of Petain will increase as Britain's hopes brighten is certain, for the people of France are steeped in the traditions of democracy. But it is nevertheless obvious that we are watching no mere war among nations. JAPIN FACES DIFFICULTIES That Tokio's great opportunity to seize such rich prizes as the Dutch East Indies and the Malay peninsula may be mildly unwinding. SCHILLING JOINS LEGION Anaheim post of the American Legion recently increased its membership with the enrollment of Emory J. Schilling of 945 North Helena street. The new member saw active over-seas services with the 107th Field Signal battalion of the 32nd (Red Arrow) division. ing of the four new ships to Singapore would be by no means improbable, and their addition to the lesser unions already in Far Eastern waters combined with the Dutch East Indies fleet, would form a very respectable striking force which, operating close to its first rate bases, might well make the task of the Japanese fleet is far higher in quality than is generally conceded by American and British navalmen, then the appearance in Asiatic waters of powerful allied fighting units might well settle without fighting, the future integrity of European colonies in Asia. If backbone can be added at Singapore by the British, then the lack of European land forces very probably would become unimportant since any Japanese attempt at expansion farther toward the southwest would entail operations far from any adequate bases for the essential repair and maintenance of her ships. The stern warning issued to Tokio by Under-Secretary of State Sumner Wells through the retiring Japanese Ambassador Horinouch aroused both surprise and com- G. Millard Parks Tops Mt. Whitney G. Millard Parks of the city engineering office stood on the highest point of continental United States as the highlight of his Labor Day weekend holiday. He climbed to the summit of Mount Whitney. Parks made the hike with a group of nine other men from Los Angeles, Inglewood and Ontario, including his brother-in-law, Ernest Payne of Ontario. They drove as far as Whitney Portals, 18 miles from Long Pine, Saturday and hiked to Outpost camp where they spent the night. In these circumstances, the send-off from the submission of Petain will increase as Britain's hopes brighten is certain, for the people of France are steeped in the traditions of democracy. But it is nevertheless obvious that we are watching no mere war among nations. JAPIN FACES DIFFICULTIES That Tokio's great opportunity to seize such rich prizes as the Dutch East Indies and the Malay peninsula may be rapidly dwindling is indicated by two recent developments. The first is the report form the Dutch possessions that intensive preparations for the defense of the rich islands are now beginning to show results and that the ability of the Dutch East Indies to ward off attack is rapidly increasing. The second the insistent rumor that Britain may very shortly be in a position to send no fewer than four battleships to augment her naval forces at Singapore. This rumor will bear considerable weight if one takes into account the fact that Britain has lost only one battleship, the "Royal Oak" since the war began. At the outbreak, the Royal Navy possessed twelve battleships and three powerful battle cruisers. Since then five new battleships of the King George V class have entered service, making a total available today of sixteen battleships and three battle-cruisers. If, as reported, four more new battleships are soon to go into commission, then Britain will have many more capital ships than sufficient to deal with Italy's fleet and with what remains of the German navy. In these circumstances, the send-off from the submission of Petain will increase as Britain's hopes brighten is certain, for the people of France are steeped in the traditions of democracy. But it is nevertheless obvious that we are watching no mere war among nations. Legal Notice NOTICE OF TRUSTEE'S SALE NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on September 20, 1940, at 10:30 A.M., DANA C.
