53rd Wedding Anniversary Feted Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Hollingworth, whose 53rd wedding anniversary was last Saturday, celebrated the event Sunday with a family picnic in Anaheim city park. Joining with their parents in commemorating the anniversary were Mr. and Mrs. Hollingworth's five children, as well as their nine grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Hollingsworth came to Anaheim from Nebraska in 1903. He was a mail carrier for 15 years, worked in the oil fields more than 10 years and is now in his ninth year as an employee of the city. Guests at the picnic reunion were Mr. and Mrs. William Cosgrove and family of Los Angeles; Mr. and Mrs. Dale J. Hollingworth and family of Santa Ana; Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Wade and family of Los Angeles; Mrs. Myrtle Raine of Newport Beach; D. Tipping of Newport Beach; Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Hart and family of Midway City and Billy Hollingworth of Anaheim. Club Members Honor Officers Presentation of gifts to Mrs. Pauline Brunworth and Mrs. Frank Newton, president re-elect and retiring secretary, respectively, of the Ladies' Elks' club was a feature of the meeting of that group last Friday. Following a luncheon at the city park, bridge was played at the Elks clubhouse during the afternoon. Mrs. Brunworth was presented by Capilla de San Antonio wedding chapel was the setting Sunday afternoon for the wedding of Miss Jennie Fae Riecke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.C.Riecke of Romneya drive, to Joseph Earl Strague of Exeter. Rev.E.Dow Hoffman of the Fullerton Methodist church officiated. The bride was attended only by her sister Miss LaVerne Riecke. Church Group Has Outing at Beach A group from the high school department of the White Temple Methodist church enjoyed an outing at Huntington Beach Sunday afternoon. Following a picnic lunch the young people swam and played games and closed the afternoon with a Wiener bake. Chaparones for the group were Mr. and Mrs. Warren Schutz and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hilgenfeld. Young people were Pat and Dorothy Graham, Dorothy Harlow, Vera Jean Riner, Arva Nell Hartley, Marjorie Fischback, Ann Hamilton., Vernon Frederick, Charles Robins, Jules Osher, Dick Lindsey, Evelyn Olson, Douglas and Roger Harlow, Barbara Meyers, Lucille Hamilton, Mary Harper, Warren and Harry Heckman, Ethel Holman and Bob Schutz. Jennie Fae Riecke Weds Exeter Man Capilla de San Antonio wedding chapel was the setting Sunday afternoon for the wedding of Miss Jennie Fae Riecke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.C.Riecke of Romneya drive, to Joseph Earl Strague of Exeter. Rev.E.Dow Hoffman of the Fullerton Methodist church officiated. Lions Fete Wives And Team Members Members of the Anaheim Lions club entertained their wives and friends and members of the girls' softball team which the club sponsors at a barbecue dinner at the city park last Friday evening. The event took the place of the regular luncheon meeting of the service organization, and President Robert Rossberg presented a short, informal program. In charge of preparing the dinner were Dr.John Boege, Ray Ruth, Wayne Griggs and William Gordon. Following the meeting most of the group went to Brea where the Anaheim girls played a game with a girls team from that town. Members of the team who were honored were Lois Boege, manager, Ann and Pat Hamilton, Jean Ferguson, Rose Booher. Elinore Baker, Barbara Riott, Dorothy and Doris Cavanaugh, Claudine Bloom and Marjorie Knapp. The D.E.Magills Mark Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. D.E.Magill celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary last Sunday with a family dinner and open house at their home on Ball road. The bride was attended only by her sister, Miss LaVerne Riecke, while Richard Alman of Southgate was the best man. Ushers were Melvin Crain and H. Riecke, jr., both of Anaheim. Mr. and Mrs. Strague will establish their home at 424 North Los Angeles street. He is employed with the Sunny Hills ranch at Fullerton. The D. E. Magills Mark Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Magill celebrated their thirtieth wedding anniversary last Sunday with a family dinner and open house at their home on Ball road. Approximately 50 friends and relatives called during the afternoon to extend their congratulations. Immediate members of the family enjoyed the dinner at noon. Seated at the table in addition to the host couple were Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Edwards of Santa Paula; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Magill and daughter, Jacqueline, of Burbank; and George Magill, at home. Planting at a picnic dinner at the Anaheim city park last Sunday afternoon. The event was held in honor of the birthday anniversary of Mrs. Planting's brother-in-law, Walter Radcliffe of Los Angeles. The guests, in addition to Mr. Radcliffe, were Mrs. Walter Radcliffe and son, Billy, Mrs. W. W. Radcliffe, Mrs. W. T. Alling, Mrs. M, McNamara, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Horn and four children, Mrs. H. Horn and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Peters. Mrs. Alling is the mother of Mrs. Planting and formerly resided in Anaheim. NEWSY NOTES Mrs. Romberg Jansen of this city, her sister, Mrs. Bowers of Los Angeles, and Mr. and Mrs. Max Boege of Santa Ana spent last week on a most interesting trip in the northern part of the state. They visited the fair in San Francisco and relatives in Berkeley, then they went further north to visit Muir Woods. On the way home they viewed the giant redwoods at Big Basin and the Big Trees at Santa Cruz. They arrived home on Saturday. Miss Evelyn Brunworth and Miss Jewel Cawthon of the high school office force, and Miss Elenore Wilkens of Los Angeles, a cousin of Miss Cawthon, left San Pedro July 5 on the Lurline for a six weeks' visit to Honolulu. Millard Parks returned to his duties in the city engineer's office Monday following a vacation spent in the northwest. He was accompanied from San Francisco to Vancouver and other points of interest by his brother, John W. Parks, and family. On his return home, Mr. Parks spent last week attending the national conference on planning at San Francisco and Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Bauman of 611 West Broadway left Saturday by automobile for points in Iowa and Wisconsin to visit relatives and friends. They expect to be gone six weeks or two months. Miss Ruth Mackey, secretary to City Clerk Charles E. Griffith, is back at work following a vacation, part of which was spent in San Francisco. A month's vacation trip cast has been concluded by Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stroup who have returned to their home at 326 North Olive street. Miss Jean Barry, deputy tax collector for the city of Anaheim, left Saturday with out-of-town friends for a vacation trip to Havana, Cuba. The group is driving to Florida, and will take a ship from there to Havana. Mr. and Mrs. William P. Webb and their three daughters, Nancy, Joan and Mary, returned last week from a vacation trip to Zion National park, Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon and Boulder Dam. Mr. and Mrs. Ross A. Sidebottom and son, Ross, jr., returned Sunday from a vacation trip to St. Clairsville, Ohio, where they visited with Mrs. Sidebottom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John G. Muth, and several other relatives and firends. Marriage of Miss Joan Haphreys of Buena Park and Maley of Anaheim at Yu Ariz., on July 7, was announced last Friday. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Humphreys and the bridegroom the son of Mrs. C. Maley of Vine Lincoln avenue. Miss Alice Williamson of Benjamin Franklin school is cationing at Madera at the home of Miss Juanita Grace, her former roommate at Redlands university. Ten days in San Francisco at the fair were enjoyed by Mrs. O. H. Renner, who turned home last week end. Wade Foster, newly appointed director of the Orange county chapter, Indoor Sports, was honored on the occasion of his birthday anniversary last Sunday when members of the organization gathered at his home, 741 New Clementine street. A son was born last Monday an Orange hospital to Mr. Mrs. Homer Jones of 110 F street, Anaheim. Mrs. Hugh Hackley and Hugh, jr., of Monroe, La., visiting this summer at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Adams, Mrs. Frank Perry and Miss Ruth Perry left yesterday on a motor trip which will take them first to San Francisco to visit the fair. From San Francisco they will go to Eugene and Portland, Oregon. They will spend several days visiting Yellowstone National park on their way to Missouri where they will visit relatives. They may extend their trip to the Atlantic seaboard before returning home in about six weeks.
