Slum Clearance Will be Studied
New Legislative Committee Established; Other Groups Progress
Announcement of another legislative investigating committee, on slum clearance and rural housing marked the third week of California's greatest political "house-cleaning" drive. The committee membership was revealed by Speaker Gordon Garland of the state assembly.
Assemblyman T. Fenton Knight, La Canada, is chairman and the following assemblymen are members: Don Allen, Augustus Hawkins, John Pelletier, Los Angeles; Godfrey Andreas, Upland; Nelson Dilworth, Hemet; Eleanor Miller, Pasadena; James Thorpe, Lockeford; Clarence Walker, Westmoreland; Fred Weybret, Soledad, and Charles Weber, Stockton.
After two weeks of sub-committee meetings throughout the state, the joint senate-assembly committee on investigation of the State Relief administration called a meeting in San Francisco Wednesday for chairmen to plan further action. Senator John Phillips, Banning, and Assemblywoman Jeannette Daley, San Diego, are joint chairmen of the main committee.
"Witnesses have openly admitted the SRA was stacked with Olson supporters," Assemblyman Frederick Houser, Alhambra, subcommittee chairman said, as he announced this week's program meetings in San Bernardino Napa day; Riverside Tuesday with range county witnesses also came and San Diego Thursday and day to hear witnesses in county and from Imperial county.
