Lemon street, were conducted yesterday afternoon from the Backs-Terry chapel. The body was sent to Holstein, Iowa, for burial in the family plot. Born in Kiel, Germany, Mrs. Wents came to the United States 70 years ago, and has resided in Anaheim for 21 years. She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Homer G. Ames of Anaheim, Mrs. Sam Kraemer, jr., of Placentia, Mrs. Helen Potter of Orange and Mrs. E. H. Phillips of Anaheim; two sons, John H. Wents and George C. Wents, both of Los Angeles; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. RALPH BURNETT VOORHEES Funeral services for Ralph Burnett Voorhees, 65, former resident of Anaheim who died Tuesday at his home in Visalia, will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 o'clock from the Brown & Wagner Colonia chapel in Santa Ana. Voorhees is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Vernon Cruzen of Visalia; two sisters, a brother and five grandchildren. One of the Fisherman Saved From Drowning A prompt rescue by the crew of a passing boat saving the life of L./A. Turner, 45, a fisherman, of Norwalk at Newport Beach Sunday. Turner was fishing off the rock jetty at the harbor entrance when he slipped an fell, striking his head on the rocks. He tumbled into the water in a semi-conscious condition. The fishing cruiser Maribou was entering the harbor, and saw the accident. It swerved over toward the dangerous rock area to pick up the victim, and rushed him to shore for first aid treatment It was reported that Turner's injuries were not serious. Stanton Boosters Meet Friday Night Stanton Chamber of Commerce will hold its February session tomorrow evening, at the Savana school house on Ball road. GUSTAVE THORN Funeral services for Gustave Thorn, 77, were conducted this afternoon at Ogden, Utah, his former home, the remains having been forwarded to that city by Backs-Terry & Campbell mortuary. Thorn, a resident of Anaheim since 1931, died Sunday. He made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ray Van Wagoner. He is also survived by another daughter, Mrs. Fred H. Sawyer of Glendale, and by one grandchild. FRANCES N. DAHL Mrs. Frances N. Dahl, 63, died this morning at the family home at the corner of South and Palm streets. She was a native of Russia, but came to this country many years ago and made her home in Anaheim since 1916. She is survived by her husband, Anton J. Dahl, and two children, Byron A. Dahl and Mrs. Timothy Wallace, all of Anaheim. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 o'clock from the Backs-Terry & Campbell chapel, Rev. M. E. Applications must be filed by March 11, according to Roy Ferguson, Manager, department of employment, the starting salary is $120 a month. Further information concerning requirements, and formal application blanks, may be obtained at the Orange county office, department of employment, 501 W. Fifth street, Santa Ana. Warnings Sought At Rail Crossing An engineer has been detailed by the state railroad commission to Orange to study a proposal that adequate warning signals be placed on the Southern Pacific tracks crossing Tustin avenue, which now is a state highway. Miss Ella Ellinghausen of North Tustin avenue circulated the petitions which called upon the commission to order installation of adequate safety devices as warning to motorists. She declares that, since the Tustin avenue route was linked directly with Santa Ana canyon via the Olive cutoff, traffic has more than tripled. The demand for action was prompted by a recent fatal accident at the crossing, Miss Ellinghausen said. Ramona Pageant to Open Year April 20 With interest at a high pitch, Income of State Sets New Record Revenue for Biennium Tops Previous High Nearly $1,000,000 State Controller Harry B. Riley this week reported the largest biennial income in the history of California, $512,493,692, was received by the state on the two-year period which ended last June 30. In a statement detailing all revenue for the 1937-39 biennium Controller Riley revealed that the income for that period was $78,-500,000 greater than the previous record of $434,000,000 set in 1935-37. The $512,493,692 income represents income to the state from all sources including special funds. In the 1937-39 biennium the state received an average income of $21,353,487 per month, or $702,046 per day. Cost of state department in the two-year period totaled $538,868,-822, the controller said. Of the total revenue $339,331,-809 went to the general fund; the balance of $173,161,883 was deposited in the special funds. First year of the biennium produced $258,507,402 in revenue; the second year revenue fell to $253,986,290. Greatest revenue producer in the two-year period was the retail sales and use tax which yielded $173,121,672, or 51 per cent of the general fund income. Second greatest source of income was the gasoline and diesel fuel tax and license which brought $94,880,892 into the special fund drawer. The gas tax accounted for 54.79 per cent of the special Ramona Pageant to Open Year April 20 With interest at a high pitch, residents of Hemet and San Jacinto, Twin cities of Riverside county have begun their annual task of preparing to launch a season of "Ramona," the remarkable play of early California. The 1940 season will open April 20 and be given six performances as follows: April 20-21, April 27-28 and May 4 and 5. Ramona Pageant association, the non-profit civic organization which sponsors the celebrated play, has approved plans for the 17th season.
