Fullerton Series To Start Sunday Anaheim Athletics to Meet Firemen at Amerige Park in Opener The long-awaited series between the Anaheim Athletics and the Fullerton Firemen gets under way next Sunday, with the game to be played at Fullerton's Amerige park. The second battle of the series is slated for La Palma stadium a week from next Sunday. A large crowd is expected at Amerige park next Sunday to see how Joe Huarte's Anaheim aggregation will stack up with the fast, experience team directed by Francis "Pep" Lemon, one-time favorite of Anaheim nightball fans. An added attraction will be the appearance of two or three Anaheim boys in the Fullerton line-up, including Joe Mene, fast, hard-hitting outfielder. The Athletics, in their final contest before the Fullerton series, bowed to the powerful Chrysler Motors last Sunday at La Palma stadium, 4 to 2. Manager Paul Holloway, former Anaheim player, used a corps of four pitchers against the Athletics, including Frank Gabler, Glen Gabler, Jesse Flores and Ed Cook, an Anaheim boy whom Manager Jigger Statz of Los Angeles Angels has taken a liking to. Chrysler Motors shoved over a pair of runs in the first inning to go into a lead they never relinquished, and added single tallies in the third and sixth innings to cinch the contest. Anaheim did its scoring in the first and sixth frames. Undefeated in 26 consecutive games up until last Saturday night, the Hornets saw their string snapped by a surprisingly strong Chaffey outfit, so today there are four teams definitely in the race for the eastern conference championship as the half-way point of the pennant chase is reached. Chaffey caught Fullerton when the Hornets were obviously off their best game, but nevertheless the Panthers were good enough to take advantage of the Hornet's weaknesses and built up such a commanding lead in the second half that a desperate Fullerton rally fell short. The final score was 44 to 41. Fullerton's loss, coupled with wins by Santa Ana over San Bernardino and Riverside over Citrus left Riverside and Pomona tied for the conference lead with two wins and no defeats, with Santa Ana and Fullerton one step behind with two wins and one loss each. One of the two first-place clubs is doomed to drop into second place this week when Riverside and Pomona tangle, and pre-game dope indicates that the Bengals will be the winners. The Hornets figure to get back in the win column at the expense of the San Bernardino Indians whom they entertain Saturday. Santa Ana draws a bye this week and play Phoenix JC tonight and San Diego State B team tomorrow night. The Dons had little trouble Friday night in trimming San Bernardino, 44 to 27. The rights of way have not yet been obtained, the supervisors waiting until a WPA application is approved. Prado contractors have set Ma 1 as the date when the lower river will be protected, but there is possibility of delay because of the strike, Riley said. However, the project can be completed within few months after it is started, declared. In answer to a question from the floor, Thompson and Riley said that the Carbon creek data has not been approved by army engineers. One investigation has been made, they said, but the engineers are not entirely satisfied. It is, however, a defined part of the program, they added. Announcement of partial completed plans for junior college football game attendance booming the legitimate Sunday morning quarterback sessions for local football fans was made Monday by President John Flanagan of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. The plans will be completed within a few days and a represen Frank Gabler, Glen Gabler, Jesse Flores and Ed Cook, an Anaheim boy whom Manager Jigger Statz of Los Angeles Angels has taken a liking to. Chrysler Motors shoved over a pair of runs in the first inning to go into a lead they never relinquished, and added single tallies in the third and sixth innings to cinch the contest. Anaheim did its scoring in the first and sixth frames. Several prominent baseball men were in the stands for the game, including Casey Stengel, manager of the Boston Bees; Charley Ruffing, ace of the New York Yankees' hurling staff; Carl Dittmar, manager of the Los Angeles farm club at Bisbee; Jack Powell, Pacific Coast league umpire, and Irish Meusel, former great outfielder of the New York Giants. Batting star of the contest was young Gordon Donaldson of La Habra, who rapped out three hits in as many attempts, including a pair of doubles. Donaldson, one-time nightball player, is one of the players recently ordered released from the Detroit club under Judge Landis' ruling, and was early this week signed by the Los Angeles Angels. Stanton Boosters Name Objectives Irving T. Hagen has succeeded W. C. Hosking as president of the Stanton Chamber of Commerce and served as chairman of a recent session primarily devoted to plans for the ensuing year. Two holdover objectives of the past year and a new item, a campaign to secure a community hall, were named immediate goals. The other two objectives are organization of a Stanton fire department and the securing of a library building. The library situation apparently remains unchanged from last summer when funds for the purchase of books for a library sought by the chamber were allocated by the supervisors. The books are now available, but the housing problem is unsolved. Mrs. Robert Clark is the new secretary, Ralph Clem was elected as a member of the board of directors, and D. L. Davis was named vice president. Trio of Complaints Airplane Concern Seeks Mechanics Opportunities for employment in the air-craft industry in San Diego will be offered to many Orange county residents Saturday morning at 8:00 o'clock at which time Don Frye, personnel manager of the Consolidated Air-Craft, will interview in the department of employment offices, 501 W. Fifth street, Santa Ana, experienced mechanics who are adaptable to the air-craft industry, Roy Ferguson, manager said today. "It will be just a waste of time for the applicant and Frye," Ferguson said, "for those who have had little or no mechanical experience to apply for these jobs. The air-craft industry is fast becoming one of the most important and is constantly absorbing high-grade mechanics and offering advancement that can not be found in many other industries. While this interview by Frye offers many excellent opportunities for the unemployed of this area, it is sincerely hoped that only first-class mechanics apply." The only ones who will be interviewed at this time, according to Ferguson will be garage mechanics proficient in blue print reading, and machinists proficient in tool work, machine operation and production. The plans will be complete within a few days and a representative sent to the board of trustees of the school to obtain permission to reserve a special roving section in the stadium. Block of at least 300 seats will sought. David Clark and Robert Whave been working out details of the proposed program and will complete the project, Flanaga said. Under the proposed plan revenue from the reserved sale would be used to establish loan fund for needy college students, with school officials charged with determining the need. The booster group would co-operate directly with the training table established last fall at American Legion post. Selection of a name has not been completed, but the Fifty-yard appellation will be used if permission can be obtained, Flanaga said. Primary duty of a club member beyond purchase of a season ticket would be to support junior college athletic teams and win for increased attendance at various games. The three principal aims of the group will be a year-around recreation program for the city, beautification of the city and action to prevent possible infringement of school anti-liquor regulations. Patten is superintendent of schools in Placentia. Patten will also seek to widen membership of the chamber to include all local merchants instead of continuing the present Merchants' association. He would also revise local law enforcement methods to secure a more equitable distribution of police patrols. Reciprocal Treaty Opposed by Bureau Farmers of Orange county, this week, petitioned congress to permit the reciprocal trade treaty act with South American countries to expire June 20 without renewal, after citing that "distrust in the act amounted to nothing short of amazement." Directors of the Orange county Farm Bureau, in forwarding the petition, held that they are acting in unison with the California Farm Bureau federation, which represents 25,000 farm families in the state, as well as the 1500 farm families aligned with the local organization. Then when Jesus came, he foreshadowed that he had laid in the grave five days already. And some them said, Could not this man which opened the eyes of a blind, have caused that even man should not have died? And Jesus lifted up his eyes, said Father, I thank thee thus hast heard me. When he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, forth. And he that was came forth, bound hand and with grave-clothes: . . . Jesaith unto them Loose him, let him go." Passages from "Science Health with Key to the Secrets" by Mary Baker Eddy include the statements: "It is not well imagine that Jesus demonstrates the divine power to heal only a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine supplies all good." Federal Court Takes Jurisdiction In Prorate Case; Will Hear Action A statutory federal court has taken jurisdiction of an action brought by plaintiffs to restrain the Agricultural Prorate commission and members of the Lemon Program committee from enforcing a lemon prorate in California. The contention of the plaintiffs, who argued that prior proceedings brought in the state court would not bar the federal court from entertaining the case, was upheld when a decision was filed last week by a statutory federal court composed of Circuit Judge Albert Lee Stephens, U. S. District Judge William P. James and U. S. Dictrict Judge Harry A. Hollzer. In 1935 practically the same plaintiffs, including Mutual Orange Distributors, American Fruit Growers Inc., and others, instituted a similar action in the superior court of this state which has been before the California supreme court on two occasions and another Auto Thief Enters Plea for Probation Mario Yorba, 20, of Ana pleaded guilty last Friday superior court to grand the Porfirio Macaray's car in Ana and will receive probation ing tomorrow. In 1935 practically the same plaintiffs, including Mutual Orange Distributors, American Fruit Growers Inc., and others, instituted a similar action in the superior court of this state which has been before the California supreme court on two occasions and another appeal is now pending. In the present federal court action, the defendant commission and members of the program committee vigorously contended that the plaintiffs were foreclosed from going into the federal court because of these prior proceedings in the state courts. Judge Stephens held, however, that the plaintiffs were entitled to bring the new action and the federal court was empowered to fully hear the case on its merits. He declared that the judgments rendered by the state courts were not final and that at the time the present defendants applied to the California supreme court for a writ of prohibition, it was erroneous for that court to decide that the prorate act was constitutional and such expressions are dicta and are not binding or conclusive on this question. In the opinion written by Judge Stephens and concurred in by the other two judges, it was concluded that prior proceedings brought in the state court would not bar the federal court from entertaining this action and hearing the case on its merits. The court declined to issue an interlocutory order of restraint, this being a discretionary matter, stating that it would receive a full recital of the facts either by way of testimony or by affidavit and then determine whether or not the plaintiffs Fullerton Group Arranges Event North County Festival Will Be Sponsored by Young Booster Body Arrangements for a city-wide festival, similar to the old Orange county fair, are being completed by the Fullerton junior chamber of commerce, following action taken this week in appointing Richard McKee chairman of the 1940 project. Housewives of Fullerton and other north Orange county communities will be invited to enter their jellies and other home-made products in competition; prizes will be awarded for the best oranges, best avocados and other products in the three-day event, tentatively set for early May. "We shall hold the festival for all adults and children in the north Orange county sector, and we have chosen the month of May so that school vacations and other trips by businessmen will not interfere with the event," President John Flanigan said. Whether a comical or serious theme will be chosen for the festival will be decided within a few days, Chairman McKee said. He is being assisted by Kenneth Foster, Dave Clark, Howard Cornwell, Joe Cornelius, Kenneth Savage, Harry Sham and Paul Wright.
