Vocational Talk Given to Youths
Public Relations Officer for Employment Service is Clubs’ Speaker
By Robert Pratt
Finding a job, that big problem which confronts all youth, was the subject expounded by H. L. Walker, manager of the public relations department of the California state employment service, at the joint meeting of the Senior Hi-Y and Girl Reserve clubs at the Presbyterian church Tuesday night.
Having held position in almost every line of work, including hod-carrying to his present professional station, Walker was well able to present practical and valuable suggestions to the youth group. Abandoning the staid narrows of laying down a definite patterns, the speaker left with his audience constructive thoughts which were seemingly irrelative, yet were within themselves valuable.
Walker did not set about to promulgate any express way for anyone to get a job. Rather, he pointed out a few fundamentals which successful persons must possess. He emphasized that one's mental attitude is more important than his technical training; that more important than what you do for yourself is what you do for others; that decisive question to put to a job is, "Is it honest?"
Industrial workers comprise only ten per cent of California labor—an interesting fact revealed in the talk. Walker said that most people holding “white collar” jobs are inadequately prepared for the jobs, and that the much-advertised fields of air-conditioning, televi-

Did you ever think of the lighting of your home as a diet for your family's eyes, just as the food you serve is a diet for their health? Science says that it is as important to guard your family's vision with good lighting as it is to guard their health with good food. Eyes also require well-balanced lighting—light that is adequate in quantity and correct in quality and distribution. And quantity of light can no more be substituted for quality of light than can quantity of food be made to replace quality, with happy results. The modern homemaker is learning to insist upon good home lighting because it is scientifically sound and healthful.
Well planned meals not only are healthful—they look better on the table and are more appetizing. Likewise, a proper lighting scheme goes further than protecting vision; it also contributes to beauty and cheerfulness. When living room lighting is soft, glareless and room-wide, it enhances a spirit of gaiety and well being. You can't keep the blues in brightly lighted surroundings! Beauty is increased, too. Colors and patterns in drapes, floor coverings and furniture keep their original charm. A well lighted room is far more attractive than one whose alternate pools of light and darkness give harshness to the real beauty of furnishings.
General Motors Sales Corporation Announces New Type of Frigidaire
One of the most important scientific and engineering developments made in recent years in the electrical refrigeration industry has been announced by officials of Frigidaire division of General Motors Sales corporation, with the introduction of the new 1939 Cold Wall models, now on display in the showroom of H. R. Fox & Co., general Frigidaire dealer.
This new model, representing a first unique application of a scientific principle, provides uniform low temperatures, high humidity and eliminates moisture-robbing circulation. These three important factors have been added without adding a single moving part to the mechanism. Foods are not naturally moist and vitally rich longer than ever before because these three factors are utilized in combination.
Equally interesting to the pub even if not so startling in character as the new type food server, is the announcement of new super-value six cubic foot Frigidaire of conventional design retail at a price under $150, a new all-time low for a Frigidaire of this size. Although represented by a major cut in retail price in comparison to previously available models, the new six will remain the meter-miser type of compressor and freezing unit to be used in all models of the line.
The complete 1939 line of Frigidaire household refrigerators incorporated three basic series, known as the Special, the Master and the Cold Wall series, all being exclusive of the new super value which has been produced as aerated sections by means of a solid glass shelf or divider, placed in the center and called the 'dew-fresh seal.' Between the upper and lower sections, there is no connection and there is no circulation of air from one to the other, the glass shelf providing a tight seal on all four sides.
"Concealed coils have been placed in the walls of the lower section, which accomplish the cooling function largely by means of the radiant principle of heat transfer. Because of this principle, the resulting tendency to practical equalization of temperatures in the entire section, and the impossibility of additional heat reaching the food compartment by reason of the concealed refrigerant coils, air circulation is reduced to an almost unmeasurable degree.
"The top section utilizes a standard freezing unit, proving plenty of ice cubes, dessert freezing and extra cold storage compartments. The conventional air circulation prevailing in the top section is utilized for refrigerating all foods in containers, bottle or can, and those not affected adversely by circulation.
"An outstanding feature of this new model is the Meat-Tender"
John V. Newman, president of the Orange County Agricultural Conservation association, announces that the western division is now in position to furnish reproductions of aerial photographs at estimated cost to farmers: federal, state, and local governmental agencies; educational institutions; and individuals, firms and agencies cooperating with the department of agriculture.
For further information and instructions on ordering, it will be necessary to call at the office of the association located at 622 N. Main street, Room 203, Santa Ana,
which is a scientifically designed compartment providing the best known method for the preservation of meats in the home. It is located under the super-freezing unit, where the low temperatures that meats require are provided, although without any alternate freezing and thawing, due to the design and construction of the container itself. The correct combination of 'directed' air circulation and humidity permits meats to retain their natural juices without drying or sliming."
The complete new 1939 line of Frigidaire refrigerators may be seen at 112 N. Olive street.
