"Two years ago the people of the 19th congressional district gave me the high honor of serving us their representative in the United States congress," Harry R. Sheppard said today.
"During these two years that I have worked as your representative I have given you results made possible and best interpreted not in words but rather in terms of plain hard work.
"A part of our district program is the intermediate stage. In order to complete this program I ask to serve you again during the 76th congress. The completion of our permanent flood control and water conservation program is an example of one of the many goals which I look forward to assisting and aiding to completion."
Efforts to settle a strike at an eastern carpet factory are getting nowhere. The management feels that the strikers' viewpoint is warped, and all the latter will do is grumble, "Woof!""

Wardens Checking on Fishing Permits
Wardens of the fish and game commission are active this year in enforcing the law requiring a fishing license for the taking of game in ocean waters, reports the outing bureau of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
Numerous anglers have been cited and fined for illegal fishing in local waters during the past few years. A license is required for all persons over 80 years of age, and it must be carried at all times when fishing.
Which were formerly of little or no value and which chemists have now found uses for in industry are cotton seeds, wool, straws, and bat huts.
Recent tests indicate that wool durable floors to be made line-leum and rubber in that order.

In an effort to organize all active members of the Holy Name societies of Orange county Catholic parishes, for a great membership campaign later this year, each Catholic parish will be represented Friday evening at a Holy Name society rally in St. Joseph’s hall, Lady and Stafford streets. Santa Ana, it was announced by William J. Lake, secretary of St. Boniface parish, Anaheim.
Besides Right Rev. Msgr Michael O’Gorman, archdiocesan director, Edwin C. Boehler, noted lay Catholic leader of Huntington Park, will address the meeting. Boehler is one of the best known leaders of the Knights of Columbus in southern California and an able speaker. He is a graduate of Creighton university and is active in Catholic cultural movements, especially the Newman club of Los Angeles and the St. Thomas More guild of the archdiocese of Los Angeles.
It was announced also, by Archdiocesan President Thomas H. Hearn, that Judge Thomas P. White, of the district court of appeals, would be chairman of the special campaign committee being organized to enlist the active support of prominent Catholic leaders throughout southern California. Judge White will be aided by the executive committee and lecture bureau of the Holy Name union, assuring direct contact with every one of the 200 Catholic parishes of the archdiocese.

LOGAN JACKSON
Sheriff Logan Jackson announced this week his candidacy for reelection to office.
"Since I have been carrying on the fight for law enforcement for some years, I feel that I have the experience and public confidence necessary to carry on such a fight. I have been advised that I am under obligation to again offer my services to the people of the county. It is for them to decide whether such services are needed." Sheriff Jackson said in his announcement statement.
"My record is known to the people of Orange county. Naturally, I think it is a good record. If the people of Orange county wish to continue the kind of administration that I have given, I shall be glad to continue to serve them."
