MORRISON Justice Kenneth E. Morrison of Santa Ana today made formal announcement of his candidacy for judge of superior court, departing two, in the August primary election. Judge Morrison is an attorney and a member of the state and county bar with 14 years' experience on the bench of Orange County's only class "A", justice Court. He now seeks elevation to a court where he served as clerk many years ago. In 1924 he stepped into the vancy on the bench of the Santa Ana justice court. During his administration the jurisdiction of the Court, the busiest in the county, has been increased to correspond proximately with the jurisdiction of Los Angeles municipal courts. In addition to his judicial position, Production Costs Of Crop Studied The second annual summary of the cost of production study on tomatoes grown in Orange county has been completed, according to Ross E. Crane, assistant farm advisor. In this study 11 growers kept an accurate account of every item of expense and income involved in their tomato venture. Eight of the 11 growers made profits ranging from $8.71 an acre to $70.79 an acre. The three growers who lost money, lost from $7.56 to $48.97 an acre. The total cost an acre varied from $92 to $240. The average cost an acre was $127.41 as compared with an average of $98.78 in 1936. The records shows an interesting variation in yields. The high yield was 26,000 pounds an acre and the low yield was 5,156 pounds. The average for the 11 growers was 12,003 pounds, or six tons. The study further shows that the cost a ton of producing canning tomatoes for the market varied from 30 to 45 cents. This cost is figured f.o.b. ranch and does not include hauling to market or selling expense.
