Merchants Display
Sales Tax Notice
Effective with the start of last quarter of the year, October 1, 1937, retailers throughout state will be required to show sales tax separately from the price of merchandise, under a ruling by the state board equalization. Merchants must prominently display a sign their places of business, stating the sales tax will be added to posted and advertised prices taxable in merchandise.
In explaining this new rule Ray Edgar, member of the Board from Southern California, said it was adopted at the request of merchants' associations through out the state and was not rarily ordered by the board has been claimed.
Commission Opposite Reduction in Railroad
An effort is now being made the California railroad commute to prevent cantaloupe growers Arizona from obtaining freight rates from the inter- commerce commission.
The railroad commission asked that growers of perish products in Orange county have data on freight costs prior that data either to Assembla Thomas H. Kuchel, Bank America building, Anaheim, or railroad commission.

New, Heavy Rail Supplies Needs of Streamliners
A lot of steel has passed under the wheels every time the frequent "click" which is a traditional part of railroad travel is heard. With heavy modern rails now in use on all main lines, every set of clicks means that the wheels have passed over from 1400 to 1700 pounds of steel, according to Southern Pacific.
In 1869 the first transcontinental railroad was laid with rails weighing only 50 pounds per yard. These continued to be standard as late as 1903. But as train speeds began to increase and equipment became larger and heavier, the need for heavier rails became apparent.
Since that time the weight per yard has been consistently increased until today rails on straight tracks are ordinarily 112 pounds per yard, and on curves, 131 pounds per yard. The old 50-pound rails weighed only 88 tons per mile of track, in contrast to over 197 tons for the modern 112-pound rail, and over 230 ton per mile for the 131-pound rail.
Today's heavy rails, Southern Pacific points out, are largely responsible for the top notch safety

Merchants Display Sales Tax Notices

Merchants must also immediately display a sign in places of business, stating sales tax will be added to all old and advertised prices on sale merchandise.
Explanating this new ruling, Edgar, member of the board Southern California, stated was adopted at the request of merchants' associations through the state and was not arbitrarily ordered by the board as been claimed.
Commission Opposes Reduction in Rates
An effort is now being made by California railroad commission to prevent cantaloupe growers ofona from obtaining lower right rates from the inter-state commerce commission.
The railroad commission has said that growers of perishable ducks in Orange county who data on freight costs present data either to Assemblyman Thomas H. Kuechel, Bank of America building, Anaheim, or the road commission.

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH
Paul's words to the Philippians: "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus," are the Golden Text in the Lesson-Sermon on "Mind" on Sunday in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
The Lesson-Sermon includes these Scriptural verses from the Psalms: "Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward; they cannot be reckoned up in order unto them: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. . . . O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all; the earth is full of thy riches. . . Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created; and thou renewest the face of the earth.
