Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Hollingworth Celebrate Golden Wedding Anniversary with Family Dinner Party Tuesday An early afternoon dinner party attended by 23 members of the immediate family was the feature of the celebration of the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Hollingworth Tuesday. The event, held at the Hollingworth residence at 335 E. Broadway, also marked the birthday anniversary of Mr. Hollingworth. Later in the day the dinner party was joined by other relatives and friends when open house was held. Mr. and Mrs. Hollingworth were married in Nuckolls county, Nebraska, on the silver anniversary of Mr. Hollingworth's parents wedding. They came to Anaheim to establish their home in 1903 and have owned property and resided here almost continuously since that time. Mr. Hollingworth for many years was a letter carrier for the Anaheim post office and for the past few years has been employed by the city. Three of the couple's five children reside in Anaheim. They are D. J. Hollingworth, Mrs. John Michaeli and Ted Hollingworth. One daughter, Mrs. William Cosgrove, lives in Los Angeles, and another daughter, Mrs. Clyde Raine, resides in Newport Beach. Covers were laid at the dinner table for the honored couple, Mr. and Mrs. William Cosgrove and family, Mrs. and Mrs. D. J. Hollingworth and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Michaeli and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Raine, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Hollingworth and son, Mrs. Susie Hall of Omaha, and Mrs. Maggie Winslow of Santa Ana sisters of Mrs. Hollingworth. Honor Wedding Anniversary of Anaheim Couple Mr. and Mrs. John Clasen of South Philadelphia street, were honored recently on occasion of their fifteenth wedding anniversary when they were guests at a surprise party given by Mrs. William Clasen at Anaheim city park. Assisting as hostesses were Mrs. E. H. Baumann of Anaheim and Mrs. Herman Harms of Long Beach. The group gathered at the city park for a picnic luncheon, over which Herman Harms presided as toastmaster. A mock wedding ceremony given by children of the group featured the afternoon. Those taking part were Dorothy and Elva Clasen, daughters of the honored couple, Juanita and Alberta Baumann, Marjorie Schutte, Ruth, Victor and Bobbie Schnackenberg and Harold Clasen. Other guests at the event were Mr. and Mrs. William Clasen and two sons, Mrs. and Mrs. Arnold Fred A. Backs and Daughter Return from Trip Fred A. Backs and daughter, Miss Florence Backs, returned to their home on North Philadelphia street last Sunday evening after a four-weeks' trip through the middle-west. They left Anaheim in company with Dr. and Mrs. Homer A. Nelson and members of other Kiwanis clubs of Southern California and Nevada and went to Indianapolis where Mr. Backs attended the international convention of Kiwanis clubs. Following the convention Mr. Backs and Miss Backs went to Detroit where they took delivery on a new car and then went on to Chicago. While in the latter city they visited Mrs. Theodore Kuchel who has been spending the summer with her parents in Chicago. En route home they visited the Black Hills in South Dakota, the Yellowstone national park and Lake Tahee. While in Rapid City, S. D., they met up with Mr. and Mrs. William Wallop who were also on an eastern trip. Both Mr. Backs and his daughter reported an enjoyable trip in spite of being overtaken by rainstorms and dust storms on their way back to Anaheim. Officers of Ladies Elks Club are Re-Elected Election of officers for the coming year featured the meeting of the Elks Ladies club held Friday at the Anaheim city park and later in the Elks clubhouse, with Mrs. E. J. Wiseman and Mrs. Pauline Brunworth being re-elected president and secretary-treasurer, respectively. The group met at the park for a picnic luncheon, an event held annually at the conclusion of the fiscal year. Later, the members adjourned to the clubhouse for the business meeting and card party. Gifts were presented to 'Mrs. Wiseman and Mrs. Brunworth by Mrs. Madeline Niles of Orange in recognition of their work during the past year. New committee chairmen were appointed by Ms. Wiseman, including Mrs. J. Lemcke, publicity; Mrs. Anita B. Schureman, ways and means; Mrs. Ellen Fullerton of Orange, membership; and Mrs. Anna Ream of Santa Ana, entertainment. Prizes in the card game were won by Mrs. J. A. McCarthy of North Janas street were hosts Sunday to an all-day party which opened with a breakfast at the McCarthy home and was concluded with a beach party at Huntington Beach. Included among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Rundstrom, Mr. and Mrs. Newell Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wilmsen, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Glover, Robert Rossberg, Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Hanson and Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Cone. Florence Backs Accepts Ebell Club State Position Miss Florence Backs, 317 N. Philadelphia street, has been appointed state chairman of amenities for the Federated Junior Ebell clubs, it was announced here this week. Miss Backs is a former president of the Anaheim Junior Ebell club and former district program chairman. Her duties for the state office will enable Miss Backs to visit many clubs during the year and she will preside as hostess at all possible meetings to build up club friendships, it was said. Dickle street was 'the scene Monday evening of a dinner party attended by relatives and friends of the hosts. A lace table cloth and a center piece of flowers surrounded by tall yellow tapers provided the table decorations. Several reels of home motion pictures and reels of Mickey Mouse comedies were displayed by Mr. Ralston as the feature of the evening. Those present in addition to the host and hostess and their two sons, Kent and Richard, were Mr. and Ms. J. A. Nevis of Avocado Heights, parents of Mrs. Ralston, and Mr. and Mrs. James P. Ranney and children, Doris and Jimmy, of Huntington Beach. Earl Bushard Leaves Tomorrow for Honolulu Earl Bushard, 215 S. Kroeger street, is leaving tomorrow aboard the "Malola" for Honolulu for a combined business and pleasure trip. He will arrive at the island city next Wednesday. While in Honolulu Bushard will be the house guest of friends. He expects to stay on the islands about five weeks. Tews (above) opened his newly remodeled and redecorated dental offices at 503 N. Los Angeles street last Monday. The latest equipment for dental practice has been installed. Dr. Tews, formerly of Chicago, has taken over the practice of Dr. Ralph M. Waltz who moved recently to San Mateo. Dr. Tews and his family have established their residence at 322 N. Pine street. Infantile Paralysis Cases Total Three With the discovery that William Rotarians Urged To Favor Bonds A. J. McFadden of Santa Anna, principal speaker at the meeting of the Anaheim Rotary club Monday noon, urged the adoption of the bond issue to assure federal aid is the flood control project. Other speakers were LeRoy Lyon and M. N. Thompson. McFadden declared he had opposed previous bond issues, but believes that the present program offers the solution to the county's water conservation and flood control problem. He stressed that the project as outlined now will cost much less than previous projects. Lyon, who was program chairman, discussed the project briefly and Thompson, county flood control engineer, explained the location of the eight dams which will be built if the bond issue carries. Associated Meets at Beach Tuesday The July meeting of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of Orange county will be held at the Golden Bear cafe in Huntington Beach next Tuesday evening at 6:30 o'clock. The meeting is being held a week earlier than usual to avoid conflict with the flood control bond election to be held July 27. A. J. McFadden and other members of the bond issue campaign committee will be in charge of the program. Infantile Paralysis Cases Total Three With the discovery that William Lee Bingamon, Jr., small son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Bingamon of 1017 E. Broadway is suffering from infantile paralysis, cases of the disease in the county now totals three, county health officers report. Authorities have urged that a careful watch be kept over all children complaining of illness. The three cases of the illness are in widely separated parts of the county, it was said. Window is Broken by Shot from Gun A youth is believed by police to have been responsible for the breaking of a window in the office of Dr. George A. Paige on West Sycamore street Monday. The upper window in one of the rooms was broken by what appeared to be either a .22-calibre bullet or a shot from a BB gun. No bullet was found in the building. Seven Men Receive First Aid Diplomas Seven-men employed by W.P.A. successfully completed the standard first aid course, taught in Anaheim, and are receiving certificates this week from the American National Red Cross thru Anaheim chapter, Mrs. W. R. Ward, chairman of the first aid committee for the chapter, announces. Certificates have been mailed to V. D. Groover, Roy E. Jennings, Frank Sanghez and Corey D. Wiens, of Anaheim; George E. Pierce and George W. Lewis of Buena Park and Everett M. Jackson of La Habra. The class was taught by C. S. Shepard of Anaheim, who is a Red Cross first aid instructor for the chapter. Indiana Reunion to be Held on July 25 The Indiana state semi-annual basket picnic and reunion will be held Sunday, July 25, at Sycamore park, Los Angeles, it was announced this week by Herbert A. Conger, president of the state society. County registers will enable friends to find each other and coffee will be furnished to those buying souvenir badges. A program will be given, including music and short addresses. Former Residents of Illinois Rally July 24 has been set as the date for the picnic rally of all former residents of Illinois now living in Southern California, it was announced this week. The reunion will be held at Bixby park in Long Beach. The usual program of talks and music has been arranged. Lunches and cold drinks will be sold at the park, it was said. Water Carnival at Long Beach to Open Friday An elaborate program of events is scheduled for the Long Beach watersports carnival to be held July 16, 17 and 18, according to the National Automobile club.
