Anaheim's Valencias moved into third place in the National nightball league Tuesday evening by trimming Orange 1 to 0 in the opening game of the second half. Anaheim is now two and one-half games out of first place and have a protested game with San Bernardino to replay.
Lyle Morse outpitched Roger Larimer in one of the finest hurling duels seen on the Anaheim diamond this year. The Cubs touched Morse for six hits, three of which were by Gunther, while the Valencias found Larimer for only seven.
In the meantime, Huntington Beach and San Bernardino were keeping pace with Anaheim by registering victories over Westminster and Santa Ana, respectively. The Oilers won, 3 to 2, while the Ponies rapped San Jacobsmeyer, Santa Ana's new gunner for a 5 to 3 decision.
Special Broadcast by Church Planned
Local radio listeners will be interested in the announcement that a nation-wide broadcast of the Columbia Church of the Air of the Columbia Broadcasting system will be conducted on Sunday, July 11, at 9 a.m., in San Francisco by George Channing, Christian Science committee on publication for northern California.
The radiocast may be heard in this vicinity over KNX (1050ke), Hollywood.
Three rounds of five games each will be played in the second half, the new schedule being drawn up last Thursday night after Riverside had folded up along with Colton.
Tomorrow evening Anaheim travels to Westminster and then to San Bernardino next Tuesday evening. The Valencias can move into second place with victories over both teams.
After the two-game road trip Anaheim returns to the home lot to take on Huntington Beach and Santa Ana in that order.
