MORE ABOUT Bond Election
(Continued from page 1)
line as did Pickering.
"The project must come sooner or later and the best program we have had is the present one. Irvine company will not oppose it." That statement from Hillis brought a burst of applause from the gathering. The Irvine company had opposed previous bond issues.
Successes Foreseen
Hartranft predicted that the bond issue would carry, but urged that every effort be made to assure its passage. He told the group he spent enough money to repair flood damage last winter to pay a large portion of his share of the bonds.
Gardner told of former floods in the county and what might happen in the event of another flood of major proportion. However, he added, water conservation is even more important to the farmer than flood control.
Smith summed up the program and reviewed its history from the time the first bond election for $10,000,000 was called ten years ago. Virtually the same program with improvements, is now available to the county for $2,500,000.
The army engineers plan to let contracts for the work, he declared, providing the bids meet the figures fixed by the army.
Santiago dam is a good object lesson in conservation, Smith said. At a rate of $15 per acre foot the water conserved by the dam since it was built seven years ago would pay for the cost of construction.
Library Visitors Set New Record
Visitors to the Henry E. Huntington library and art gallery numbered over 165,000 in the year ending June 30, the largest annual total ever recorded, it was announced today.
An average of more than 600 persons each visiting day was received at the San Marino institution, almost a fifth more than during the initial rush ten years ago. The grand total of visitors is now approximately 1,250,000.
Tourist visitors accounted for approximately one-half of the year's total. Another important factor in attendance was the admission of over 22,000 persons in organized groups averaging thirty members each. Of these, more than half were students from public schools and colleges in California who were 'brought' by their teachers to study particular exhibits.

"God" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon on Sunday in all Church of Christ, Scientist, branches of The Mother Church. The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. The Golden Text is from the epistle of Jude: "To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever."
One of the Bible selections in the Lesson-Sermon cites these passages from the Psalms: "O sing unto the Lord a new song. Sing unto the Lord, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. For the Lord is great, and greatly to be praised: : : : Give unto the Lord, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name:" "Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks; for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare."
The Lesson-Sermon includes also these statements from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Edy: "There is no power apart from God, Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God."
