Security Taxes For April Near Delinquent Date Tuesday, June 1, has been established as the last date on which file returns and pay taxes for the month of April under the old age benefits provisions of the Social Security act, according to an announcement by Nat Rogan, collector of internal revenue for southern California. Commencing June 2 penalties will be assessed against delinquent April returns amounting to 5 per cent of the tax. On June 1 delinquent January taxes will carry a 20 per cent penalty; February, a 15 per cent penalty; and March, a 10 per cent penalty. Rulings from the bureau of internal revenue in Washington declare that the taxes must be in the office of the Collector on June 1st, and that letters postmarked on that date but not received until later will be held delinquent. Santa Fe Railroad Shows Income Gain Atchison's net railway operating income for April was $908,597, according to a statement released by President Bledsoe today. This is an increase of $176,462 over April of last year. Gross for the system was $13,518,248, an increase over April, 1936, of $1,693,838 or 14.32 per cent. NOTICE INVITING SEALED PROPOSALS FOR FURNISHING DISINTEGRATED GRANITE Notice is hereby given that sealed proposals will be received by the City Council of the City of Anaheim at the office of the City Clerk of said city, up to the hour of eight o'clock P.M. of Tuesday, the 8th day of June, 1937, for furnishing to said city approximately 1200 tons of disintegrated granite to be delivered to Santa Ana Street between Lemon Street and Manchester Boulevard in such quantities and at such times as the city engineer may direct. Said disintegrated granite shall comply with Section 19 of the specifications entitled "State of California, Department of Public Works, Division of Highways, Standard Specifications, January, 1935," except that the maximum size of such material shall be 1½". Each proposal must be accompanied by a certified or cashier's check payable to City of Anaheim in the amount of Fifty Dollars ($50.00). Such check of the successful bidder will be held by the City until the delivery and acceptance of the granite. The City Council of said city reserves the right to reject any or all proposals. Operating expenses were $11,-403,495, an increase of $1,348,495, or 13.41 per cent over the same month of 1936. Of the increase in operating expenses $578,919 was on account of maintenance of way and structures and equipment, and $538,827 on account of additional train miles necessitated by increased business. The balance was made up of increase in miscellaneous items. Railway tax accruals increased for the month $67,926 or 5.97 per cent.
