SENAGRAMS
By HARRY C. WESTOVER
After some five weeks spent in Orange county I am quite convinced that the people of the county are reading these Senagrams. People from all over the county have spoken to me about the Sengrams. Of course, I did not know the paper in which the Sengrams had been read, but I am confident that they are being received in all parts of the county.
When the legislature reconvened this morning Orange county's official family was present. Clyde Watson and Thomas H. Kuchel were in the assembly and the writer was in the senate.
Besides the official delegation, Orange county was well represented. One of the first men from Orange county to come into the senate chambers was "Bill" Jerome. Bill is in Sacramento representing the County Mutural Fire Insurance association.
Justus Cramer of Orange county was also a visitor in the senate.
Ted Craig, former speaker of the house, but now working as a lobbyist, was seen during the opening session in the assembly.
Chester Dale, who was the history clerk during the January session of the legislature, could not come back to Sacramento for the balance of the session. His place has been taken by M. E. Geeting of Santa Ana.
The legislature reconvened promptly at 12 noon. Very little business was transacted and adjournment was had in the senate at 12:27. The assembly at about the same time.
The senators and assemblymen are busy arranging for their committee meetings. The senate will continue to meet at 10 or 11 o'clock in the morning. However, committee meetings have been scheduled from 8:00 o'clock and in the morning until 8:00 o'clock at night. When members of the legislature are on six or seven different committees, and each committee meets two or three times a week, it can readily be seen that committee work will take a great deal of time.

Faces Sentence in Naval Spying
John S. Farsworth, above, former lieutenant commander in the U.S. navy, faced a federal sentence after he threw himself on the mercy of the court, refusing to stand trial on charges of transmitting naval secrets to Japanese naval attaches. Federal attorneys said they were prepared to offer testimony showing Farsworth had acquired for Japanese officials detailed information covering firing operations of every American naval vessel.
There seems to be a desire on the part of many legislators for an early adjournment. Some of the legislators have expressed the hope that the legislature may adjourn by May 1. Others are not so enthusiastic and say that it will be June 1 or June 15 before the final adjournment. The adjournment, of course, will depend upon the number of controversial measures and the time given to each measure. There seems, however, to be a general expression that an early adjournment is to be desired.
Certain assemblymen are now preparing resolutions recommending congress to follow out the plan as outlined by the President. Certain senators, on the other hand, are working at resolutions to the effect that such a plan should be condemned. All loyal party men, in both the assembly and senate, are getting ready to express themselves on this issue. It may be that the most interesting session of the legislature during the first week in March will center around the supreme court plan of the federal administration.
There was not much change made in hotel reservations during the adjournment. The writer and his family are still at the Hotel Sacramento. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Watson are also at the Sacramento. Kuchel and his mother have obtained an apartment near the capitol. Anyone expecting to visit the legislature during the next several months should make arrangements for accommodations early as I am informed that hotel accommodations are going to be scarce a little later on.
Manila Host to Eucharistic Congress
Manila Host to Eucharistic Congress
In beautiful Luneta Square, Manila, shown above from the air, 500,000 Catholics gathered at attend masses of the 33d International Eucharistic Congress. Crowds can be seen spotting the square as representatives of 54 nations assembled for the vast meeting. At right is His Eminence, Dennis Joseph Cardinal Dougherty of Philadelphia, who was appointed personal legate of the pope to the Congress. Cardinal Dougherty, 71, was the first U.S. Prince of the Church ever sent as a legate to an international gathering of Catholics. He carried the pope's personal message, calling for prayers in the interests of world peace.
