SOCIETY CLUBS Plans are Made For Annual Silver Tea Plans for the annual silver tea to be given by the high school Parent-Teacher association at the home of Mrs. J. A. Clayes on Euclid avenue February 22 were discussed by the committee on arrangements following the regular P.-T. A. meeting last Monday evening. A Japanese motif will be followed, with music, refreshments and decorations all in the oriental theme, it was decided. Mrs. J. A. O'Neill is chairman of the committee. Dr. Wendy Stewart of the University of Southern California was the speaker at the P.-T. A. meeting. She discussed the connection between an individual's vocations and his hobbies. She also stressed the importance of actual contact with professional persons in vocational guidance. Musical entertainment was furnished by the high school boys' double quartet which sang a group of two numbers, accompanied by Miss Virginia Sims. Members of the group are Ralph Summers, Robert Ferr, David Clark, James Jay, Jack Rodden, Jack Van Meter, Rod Craven and Henry Retlick. Bridal Showers Are Given for Marion Zeppenfeld Bridal showers were given dur- Reservations Requested for B. & P. W. Dinner Reservations for the Reciprocity Dinner to be given by the Business and Professional Women's club of Anaheim at the Elks club-house Thursday evening, February 25, should be made at the Henry Bros. drug store or with Miss Grace W. Bailey, phone 3105, it was announced today by Miss Ruth C. Williams, president of the club. Reservations will be accepted until next Tuesday morning. Dr. Harvey Eagleson of California Institute of Technology will be the speaker of the evening. His subject is "Japanese Prints." Invitations have been sent to service clubs and women's organizations of Anaheim and the B. and P. W. clubs of Orange county, Miss Williams said. Dinner Party Marks Silver Wedding Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Charles Zehnter of Puente were guests of honor at a dinner given Sunday noon by Mrs. Henry DuBois of Crest avenue honoring the silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Zehnter. Mrs. Zehnter is a sister of Henry DuBois. Decorations featured a combination of the bridal and Valentine motifs. Table appointments were in red and silver. A gardenia corsage was presented Mrs. Zehnter Mrs. Margaret Bright is Bride of J. L. Hedden The Santa Ana wedding chapel was the scene last Sunday afternoon of the wedding of Mrs. Margaret Bright of Anaheim and J. L. Hedden of La Grande, Ore. The service was read by the Rev. E. C. Bloss of Santa Ana. Attending the bride was Mrs. E. M. Davis of Whittier, and H. C. Stevens, also of Whittier, served as best man. Traditional wedding selections were sung before the service by Walter Z. Smith of Venice, accompanied by Miss Aurora B. La Magdelaine of Anaheim, who also played the Lohengrin bridal chorus and Mendelssohn's recessional. A short reception for the 40 guests followed the service. The guests were also greeted by Mrs. M. Jecklin, mother of the bride. A honeymoon will be spent in Missouri after which the couple will make their home in La Grande where Mr. Hedden is employed as manager of the H. C. Stevens store. The new Mrs. Hedden was employed at the H. C. Stevens store here for the past eight years. She made her home with her sister, Mrs. Pauline Jeffries, 612 S. Palm street. Miss Dauer, assisted by Miss Edna Dreyer, was hostess to a breakfast Sunday morning, while Miss Wallop entertained last Friday evening. Anaheim guests at the affair include Miss Esther Zeppenfeld, Miss Joan Lamb, Mrs. William Darnley, Mrs. Oakley Moore, Miss Katherine Faust, Miss Louise Jackson, Miss Viola Zehnphennig, Miss Narcissus Prentiss, and Miss Jean Barry. Bridal Shower Given in Honor of Nelle Grafton A bridal shower tea was given Sunday afternoon by Mrs. R. B. Newcom of Orange in honor of Miss Nelle Grafton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Grafton of Anaheim, whose marriage to Donald L. Campbell of Los Angeles will be an event of February 27. Mrs. Newcom is an aunt of Miss Grafton. Thirty guests from Los Angeles, Long Beach, Venice, Manhattan Beach, Santa Ana and Anaheim were present. Tea was poured by Mrs. Grafton and Mrs. Frank Shumate, mother of Mr. Campbell. Guests from Anaheim were Mrs. Grafton, Mrs. Henry Adams and Miss Kathryn Adams. The afternoon was spent in informal games and cards. Birthdays of Washington and Lincoln Honored Commemoration of the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and George Washington featured the meeting of the Woman's Relief Corps No. 134 last Tuesday afternoon at the I.O.O.F. hall. Mrs. Hazel Davis, patriotic chairman, was in charge of the program. Routine business matters were discussed by the corps and committee reports given. The reports revealed $32.30 had been spent for relief, $4.00 for child welfare, 30 calls were made and six bouquets and one spray given. It was announced that the social club of the corps would meet next Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Charlie Nevins, 315 S. Philadelphia street. A potluck luncheon will be held at noon and new officers for the year will be installed during the afternoon. The new Mrs. Hedden was employed at the H. C. Stevens store here for the past eight years. She made her home with her sister, Mrs. Pauline Jeffries, 612 S. Palm street. Bridal Shower Sunday Honors Katherine Dohm Miss Katherine Dohm of Anaheim, who on March 5 will become the bride of Darrel McGavran of Fullerton, was complimented with a pre-nuptial shower Sunday afternoon at the home of Miss Faustina Nenno of Fullerton. Mrs. J. Antionette Nenno assisted her daughter in receiving the guests. Following a series of games of a bridal theme, Miss Helen Mulloy presented two vocal solos, "I Love You Truly," and "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms," accompanied at the piano by Miss Nenno. Groups to Form Mother's Chorus A mother's chorus is to be formed of members of the Parent-Teacher associations of the rural schools in the Anaheim district, it was announced this week by Mrs. Ben Ter Best, chairman of the organizing committee. The members of the organization will be selected from the Parent-Teacher associations of Orangethorpe, Laoara, Magnolia, Savanna and Katella schools. First rehearsal of the chorus will be held Friday afternoon, February 26, at 3:30 o'clock at the Katella school, Mrs. Ter Best announced. The school is located on S. West street and W. Katella road. The young couple will be mar- Mrs. Hugo Schulz Speaker at Junior Ebell Club Mrs. Hugo Schulz, dramatic teacher of Anaheim union high school, was the principal speaker at the meeting of the Anaheim Junior Ebell club held last evening at the home of Miss Sally Newkirk on West Center street. Mrs. Schulz gave a panorama of theatrical productions seen on Broadway this year, touching on the popularity of Shakespearean productions. The review of a current magazine was given by Mrs. John Kennedy. Mrs. Richard Ryan was chairman of the committee in charge of arrangements for the dinner which was served at 6 o'clock. Military School in Basketball Victory St. Catherine's Military school's basketball team last night edge out Loyola high school's midday five, 10 to 9, in a contest played at Pan-Pacific auditorium, Los Angeles. It was the second time within eight days that the Anaheim quintet appeared in a game between halves of the Loyola college cage tilts. Ministers of City Oppose Race Track The Anaheim Ministerial association went on record yesterday noon as emphatically opposing an attempt to establish a horse racing track in Orange county. The decision was aimed at the proposal to revive the Orange county fair with racing as a feature. Plans were made for an Easter Sunrise service to be held at the city park at 6:30 o'clock Eastern morning. The Rev. Birney William Gillette To Wed May 1 Announcement was made of the engagement of Miss Genevieve Jones, daughter of Mrs. H. M. Floyd Young will Talk to Citrus Men Floyd Young, government meteorologist, will speak at California Fruit Growers exchange directors' meeting at the Sunkist building, 707 W. Seventh street, Los Angeles, next Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock, it has been announced. Young will show charts and pictures of his work, which will be of interest to citrus growers. The meeting is open to all citrus ranchers, it was said. Fuller, pastors of the Pentecostal Church of God, officiating. Interment was at Olive Lawn cemetery. Mrs. Hill, a resident of Buena Park for 10 years, died early Monday morning. She is survived by her husband, Mrs. Ernest Moss of Los Angeles and Mrs. Homer Crandall of Wellington, Kansas, and 12 grandchildren. Hudson, pastor of the Calvary Baptist church, will deliver the sermon. Other arrangements are made by the executive committee. Thomas H. Kuchel will speak at a special meeting of the association at the Presbyterian church next Wednesday at 1 o'clock, it was announced. He will discuss legislative measures. Club's Program Given By Wives Wives of Lions club members were present and in charge of the program of the service club last Friday noon at the Elks club with Mrs. A. P. M. Brown presiding. The highlight of the program was the presentation, "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere," a comic skit given by the women. Musical entertainment was furnished by James McGarrigle of Long Beach, official song leader of the Lions Fourth district, who sang a number of solos and lead group singing. He was accompanied by Mrs. Olive Kempin. A short talk on Lincoln was given by Mrs. Louis Hoskins, wife of the special days chairman. Mrs. C. P. Tompkins and Mrs. Fred Sidebottom were in charge of the table decorations which featured the Valentine motif.
