Electrolux Model for 1937 has Many Important Improvements Greater exterior beauty than ever before, roomier interiors, an amazingly simple new method of instruction, and lower cost of operation because a smaller supply fuel is needed, are outstanding features of the 1937 Servel Electrolux gas refrigerators now on play at the Southern Counties company and its dealers' offices, according to Fred G. Parker, district manager for the company in this territory. "The secret of the perfect symmetry which characterizes the 1937 models lies in the fact that the bell of the cabinet is practically instructed of one piece of steel, so method being a new departure in the construction of refrigerators." With no panels, joints, seams or evidences of riveting on the surface of the cabinet, the new models have smooth, rounded corners and a 'streamline' aspect which make them even more beautiful than ever before. "Having developed a freezing bit of lasting durability because of its absence of moving parts, Servel Electrolux engineers have produced a cabinet that will stand test of the years." To the main single piece comprising the sides, top, and front, only two pieces are added, the back and the bottom, all of which are riveted and sealed from within, giving the entire frame a strength and rigidity which insures stability, durability, and long life. The legs are constructed in pairs and bolted through flanges in the single shell to give added strength to the whole cabinet. "Glossy white in appearance, new models are finished with a special type of enamel baked on at a high temperature. A lasting finish must resist the action of fruit juices, liquors, smoke or fumes. It must not peel, chip or blister under all conditions of dampness or heat. It must thoroughly protect the metal against rust. It must not scratch or mar. It must not discolor under prolonged exposure to light. After the most gruelling tests in the Servel laboratories, a finish designed to meet these requirements was developed for the 1937 Electrolux. "Novel planning of the interior has increased the shelf area to an appreciable extent without interfering with its convenient arrangement." Despite its roomier interior, the cabinet is built to occupy less space in the kitchen. "The new models may be seen at the following local dealers' stores: Harry I. Horn, Riutcel-Smith Furniture Co. and Stroup-Barnes Furniture Co." A 12-point scoring streak halfway through the first period gave the Pirates the edge they needed to win. Score at half time favored Modesto, 23 to 17. Ted Neja, Anaheim ace, led the hornets in scoring with four field goals all in the first period. Baker, another former Colonist ace, also got into the game as a reserve guard. The Jackets open their conference season next Wednesday at Pomona and play Santa Ana the following Friday night. The Hornets returned to form Tuesday evening to turn back Pasadena Jaysee, 44 to 41, in a wild encounter that saw Fullerton come from behind in the last four minutes to win. Chicago Bears Face Los Angeles Outfit Regarded as one of the greatest football machines of all times the famous Chicago Bears will play the Los Angeles Bulldogs at Gilmore stadium Sunday afternoon. Eager to prove that the National Pro league teams are the tops in football, the Chicago Bears are out to hand the Bulldogs a lacing. A close victory will not satisfy Owner-Coach George Halas or other moguls of the National Pro league. They want to win by two touchdowns or more. Elmer "Gloomy Gus" Henderson and his Bulldogs who have set a record by defeating three National league teams and tying another in four starts, will have something to say about the matter. Brilliant defensive work by Baker in the last few minutes added Fullerton's cause greatly, while Neja caged his lone basket during the rally to put the Jackets into the lead. Tuberculosis Association Urges Response It is not too late to make deferred payment for Christmas Seals, according to A. J. Cruickshank of Santa Ana, president of the California Tuberculosis association. Cruickshank said: "It is not yet too late for those who received Christmas Seals during the holiday season to take part in the year round campaign to help prevent tuberculosis. "Success in raising the Christmas Seal funds necessary to carry on the expanded programs planned for this year now stands upon the response of many persons who have mislaid or overlooked their Christmas Seals in the rush of the holiday season. We hope that all those who have overlooked their Christmas Seals will send in their contribution soon, in order that programs may go forward as planned." Plans have already been laid for many tuberculosis associations in the state for extensive tuberculin test and X-ray surveys of school groups, as soon as the Acts and Facts of Townsendism By Walter R. Robb (This is a non-political, non-partisan column dealing in Townsend news and views, and written by a prominent Townsend leader. Any opinions which are expressed herein are not necessarily those of the Gazette). As a purchasing medium its value becomes definitely fixed by the government whose seal and measure of value is stamped upon it. However, it should ever be kept in mind that the value which is definitely fixed for various pieces of money are only those of monetary medium as purchasing units. Such units as monetary medium vary in their purchasing abilities from time to time in harmony with prevailing scarcity or over abundance of the particular form of real wealth being purchased. In a system of government which incorporates the profit system of economics as its base with its necessary competition between producers of wealth, there is bound to be fluctuations in the value of such wealth in terms of monetary mediums. Thus if there is a large production of sugar in a given year and there are no great fluctuations in the cost of labor or rentals on land and so forth used in its production, the price level of it will likely be considerably reduced of its abundance. Cruickshank, president of Tuberculosis association, said: spring term is well under way. During the last year, more than 50,000 children were examined in such surveys, and it is hoped this year to greatly increase this number and bring a fuller measure of habitual traffic violators given warning notices To combat the mounting toll of highway deaths and injuries, the state division of drivers' licenses, during the past year, has mailed warnings to 276 habitual violators of traffic laws, Paul Mason, chief, said recently. The warnings resemble diplomas and notify violators that the division has sufficient abstracts of court records to show they are in the habitual class. They are notified that if they receive other tickets, their licenses will be revoked. Those who receive warnings and get subsequent citations for major traffic violations, Mason explained, will have their licenses revoked, but have the right to a hearing, at which time they may present their side of the case. Losses Caused by Strike Increasing California's economic losses resulting from the maritime strike, are assuming incalculable proportions, and unless an early settlement of the dispute is reached the effect on the future welfare and prosperity of the state will be devastating, the California State chamber of commerce warns in a statement issued here today. With the strike new entering its third month, the market flow of California products by water normally valued at more than $75,000,000 per month, has virtually ceased, and such products as are being moved are being transported at much higher costs. Clososis Association Head Urges Response To Seal Sales spring term is well under way. During the last year, more than 50,000 children were examined in such surveys, and it is hoped this year to greatly increase this number and bring a fuller measure of protection to the youth of this state. Thanks to the tuberculosis associations go to all those whose generous support has made this possible. If there are any persons who received seals and cannot or do not wish to purchase them this year, we urge that they return seals to their local or county tuberculosis associations, in order that proper accounting may be made." Of 2063 letters mailed to residents of Anaheim district, 1590 have replied with contributions totalling $902.79; and of 25,447 letters mailed to residents of the county 144,657 have replied with contributions totalling $6,850.16. These figures show an increase about 27 percent over last year and there are still other letters to be heard from, it was said. Church Will Offer Religious Picture "The King of Kings," a widely known religious film, will be shown at the White Temple Methodist church next Sunday evening, according to the Rev. R. Kells Swenerton, pastor. "The King of Kings" is an elaborate and reverent attempt to use the motion picture as a means of telling the greatest story in the world, Swenerton said. Portrayals of the Biblical characters and stories are done with infinite care in order that they be sincere. The public is invited to see this noted film which will be presented in sound. No admission will be charged, but a free will offering will be taken, it was announced. ability of the nation to produce had not failed. Its machinery for production was all oiled up and ready to go and the warehouses of the nation were full. And still the people starved and went naked. Why? JOB PRINTING Such as • CATALOGS • BOOKLETS • MAGAZINES • PROGRAMS • FOLDERS • LETTERS • BLOTTERS • FORMS • CARDS • POSTERS • STATEMENTS Many people therefore become confused as to the state or ability of the nation to distribute real wealth to the people in times of depression, because economists then are prone to express the value of national wealth then existing, in terms of monetary mediums. Thus in 1920 when the nation was at the peak of prosperity following the world war the unofficial estimate of the value of our national wealth in terms of dollars was 488.7 billions. In contrast in 1932 when the present depression was at its worst, the same sources of information listed our national wealth at 247.3 billions of dollars. This did not mean that the real possessions of the people had been so materially reduced. The real wealth of the nation was still abundant but the power of the people to exchange same between-themselves had diminished. Unemployment had set in, which involved a necessity of selling on the part of many. The market became flooded with things for sale. Everybody was liquidating and to do so they had to dispose of their possessions. It was a competition between sellers instead of between buyers. The result was depressed prices and a pro-rata drop in the value of national wealth as expressed in monetary terms. There had been no drop in the ability of the nation to produce sufficient food, clothing or housing for the people. The ability still existed but it was paralyzed and unable to function for the benefit of the people. The economies of the nation had failed. Money which of itself is not wealth had failed to circulate among the people. The purpose of money was that of a monetary medium through which real wealth could be justly distributed.
