City Clerk Charles E. Griffith and Mrs. Griffith returned to their home last Friday after spending a week's vacation at Sacramento. Betty Fackiner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fackiner, 611 N. Los Angeles street, is singing in the choral group of Frank Black's National Broadcasting company orchestra, it has been learned here. She sang with the group last Sunday on the Magic Key program which was heard on the coast. W. H. Comstock, 507 N. Lemon street, was host last week to his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Comstock of Indiana, and their son, Charles of New York. W. R. C. Officers To be Installed January 19 Mrs. Mary Mitchell, senior vice president of the A. B. Paul Womans Relief Corps No. 134, presided at the business meeting of that organization held Tuesday afternoon in the I. O. O. F. hall on West Center street. Committee reports were the principal business taken up. It was reported that child welfare expenditures were $16.50; relief $279.75; and that 18 calls were made and 19 bouquets given. Installation of officers for 1937 will take place at the next meeting of the corps Tuesday, January 19. The regular meeting will begin at 1 o'clock with the installation, which is open to the public, scheduled for 2 o'clock. Officers for the year include Mrs. Mary Mitchell, president; Nora Dodge, senior vice president; Rosetta Sparks, junior vice president; Bessie Fitzpatrick, secretary; Elva Bruederle, treasurer; Nina Law, chaplain; Emma Yale, conductor; Elizabeth Sparkes, guard; Hazel Davis, patriotic instructor; Mary L. Goble, press correspondent; Mae Webber, musician; Maude English, assistant conductor; Dora McCracken, assistant guard; Pearl Fergus, Ida Lake, Mary E. McKalvey and Alma Pressell, color bearers. Miss Georgia Altnow To be Bride of Donald Dandy Announcement was made last week of the engagement of Miss Georgia Altnow and Donald Dandy at a party given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Ross on E. Adele street. Miss Altnow is the niece of Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Altnow of East Santa Ana street and Mr. Dandy is the son of Mrs. Emma Dandy of North Los Angeles street. Games featured the entertainment for the evening with first prize going to Arval Morris. Mrs. Ross and Miss Altnow served a two-course supper at a late hour to Miss Adaline Schlosser, Miss Marguerite Schlosser, Miss Helen Sharp, Milo Sharp, Lester Rohrs, Robert Patrick, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Visel, Mr. and Mrs. John Kelsay, Mr. and Mrs. Arval Morris, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baker, Mr. and Mrs. George Sloop, Jr., Mr. Lloyd Ross and Mr. Dandy. SANTA FE TRAILWAYS Miss Frances Miner And Joseph Bailey Wed Thursday The Church of Christ on West Broadway was the scene last Thursday evening of the marriage of Miss Frances A. Miner, daughter of Mrs. Rilla E. Miner, to Joseph E. Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. D.. B. Bailey, with the Rev. Morris Schollenberger reading the service. Attending the couple were Miss Mary Janss, maid of honor, Miss Rilla Miner and Mrs. Thelma Miner, attendants, and Richard Acton, best man. "I Love You Truly" and "You're the One Rose That's in My Heart" were sung by Miss Pauline Houts, accompanied at the piano by Marshall McFee. Following the ceremony as reception was held at the home of the bride's mother on Adele street. The newly-wedded couple will make their home in Anaheim following a short honeymoon. Man Arrested Here Is Thought Insane Giving arresting officers a thorough workout before they were able to subdue him, a vagrant who refused to talk was arrested by Anaheim police early Sautrday morning. It took two officers to persuade the man, who stood about six feet and weighed better than 200 pounds, to submit to arrest, and then only after the handcuffs had been applied. Booked on vagrancy as John Doe, the man was sentenced to 30 days in the county jail when he appeared before City Judge Frank Tausch. Later Police Chief James S. Bouldin was informed by county guard; Hazel Davis, patriotic instructor; Mary L. Goble, press correspondent; Mae Webber, musician; Maude English, assistant conductor; Dora McCracken, assistant guard; Pearl Fergus, Ida Lake, Mary E. McKalvey and Alma Pressell, color bearers. O. T. Mr. and Mrs. Koesel Return from Honeymoon Trip Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Koesel returned to their new home in Anaheim last week following their marriage in San Francisco December 24. They are making their home at present at the Edwards apartments. Mrs. Koesel, who was Miss Linda V. Higgins, is the daughter of Dr. Margaret V. Higgins of Columbia, South Carolina, and is instructor of physical education at Anaheim union high school. Mr. Koesel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Koesel of Uslar, Germany, and the nephew of Mrs. Fred Koesel of 706 W. Center street, Anaheim. He is engaged in the wholesale and retail fruit business in Fullerton. Menke on East Cypress street. The afternoon was spent in singing and conversation, and a luncheon was served by the hostess at 4 o'clock. Southland Ninth in 1936 Tourist Trade The fact that Southern California had a gross income of $188,-891,139 in 1936 from its tourist industry, recently reported by the All-Year club, only put this area into ninth position, as compared with the incomes of the recreation centers of the world for the same 12 months, according to a statement by H. D. Ivey, first vice-president of the club. "That sum seems a large one," he said, "but eight other tourist areas took in considerably more, one as much as 600 million dollars." Three Automobiles Looted by Thieves Plundering of unlocked automobiles continued in Anaheim last week with three persons reporting thefts. Overcoats were stolen from autos owned by Carroll Starkey, 838 N. Lemon street and E. C. Kendrick Tuesday, December 29. Kendrick also lost a scarf. R. L. Wilson, route 2, box 31, parked his car at 721 N. Lemon street for a short time on the night of January 1 and when he returned he found that a cigarette case, keytainer and knife had been stolen. Legion Post Plans "Victory Banquet" As a celebration over the fact that the Anaheim post surpassed the quota of 180 members set by the state department, the American Legion will hold a "victory dinner" at its next regular meeting, January 18, it was decided last Monday. Grant Rude, chairman of the membership committee, announced that 184 veterans now belong to the Anaheim post. Unanimous approval was given the initiative, measure to be submitted to the state legislature controlling the sardine industry off the coastline of the state. State Agency Sets New Recovery Mark All California department of agriculture records for recoveries secured for growers during the period of a single month by the division of market enforcement were exceeded by a wide margin during the month of November, according to an official announcement. Two hundred California growers, during that month, received the sum of $35,277 distributed among them as the result of adjustments and recoveries secured for them by division officers upon complaints. The previous record was $22,000 for one month's activities. More than $6,000 of the total resulted from the recovery upon bonds of defunct commission houses.
