registrar of Vehicles Preparing Notification of Automobile Fees Postcard notices for 2,400,000 California owners of motor vehicles, notifying them of the fees they will have to pay to obtain dates for 1937, are now being prepared at the rate of 50,000 a day, Howard E. Deems, registrar of vehicles, announced today. The renewal will start January 2, Deems said, and request the public not to attempt to getates until that time. The cards, which are being bored and rated by a special staff 200, will show the fee for license plates and the amount of the motor vehicle license fee, which takes the place of city and county personal property taxes, Deems explained. They will not be placed in the postoffice until December 26, to avoid the Christmas rush of mail. "The public is especially requested not to attempt to secure 1937 licenses before January 2," the registrar said. "Certificates mailed in without the correct fees will be returned and the applicant requested to consult the nearest branch of the division of registration or California highway patrol. "Because of a special ink used in typing, which will protect the department against alteration, this year the cards will be accepted at face value. Last year this could not be done on account of many alterations. "The immense amount of work involved in informing registered owners of the fees they must pay, is complicated," Deems said. "Because an average of 1,000 notices of change of address are received each week by the department. Because of this, it is possible some vehicle owners will receive two cards, one at the old address and another at the new." Christian Science Lecture is Slated James G. Rowell of Kansas City, a member of the board of lectureship of The Mother Church, First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, will give a lecture on CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCH "Soul and Body" is the subject of the Lesson-Sermon on Sunday in all branches of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. One of the Bible selections presents these verses from Luke: "And behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself." And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God." The Lesson-Sermon includes also this passage from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "Do you say the time has not yet come in which to recognize Soul as substantial and able to control the body? Remember Jesus, who nearly nineteen centuries ago demonstrated the power of Spirit and said, 'He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also,' and also said, 'But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth.'" MORE ABOUT Dedication (Continued from Page 1) rector, federal emergency administration of public works. Curlett declared that California is the second state in the nation in WPA construction and that one-third of the state's total is allotted to schools in Orange and Los Angeles counties. The grant of some $125,000 was a gift that carries no interest and does not have to be repaid, he said. Two requirements are made, however. They are that as many men as possible be employed and that the district build a worthwhile structure. The payroll on the grounds totaled $120,000, Curlett said. J. T. Stafford, state division of architecture, and T. C. Kistner, architect of the plant, also spoke briefly. The scheduled radio message from Washington by Col. Horatio B. Hackett was cancelled at the last minute because of unavoidable circumstances. Other musical entertainment was furnished by the high school Mozart orchestra and the full orchestra. Phone: 2322 Crowding Front Seat of Car Is Dangerous and Illegal Practice "Football traffic is speedy, shifty and dangerous enough without taking unnecessary risks. Don't crowd the front seat of your car." Such is the timely warning from the Automobile Club of Southern California public safety department in a statement observing that safe driving is almost impossible when the front seat is so crowded as to interfere with the vision of the driver or his control over steering wheel, brakes and gears. Dangerously crowding the front section violates the California vehicle code, and is a frequent source of accidents. The club notes: "In the first place, in order to make room, the driver is cramped into his corner where he cannot act freely and promptly either in handling the wheel, applying the brakes, or shifting gears. Again, his vision to the right is often completely obscured. A third and important point is that with more than the normal number of persons on the seat with him their conversation frequently distracts his attention from the business of driving. "Many states have adopted laws against overcrowding the front seat. In some, the law sets a definite limitation of three persons. California law declares, in effect, that there shall not be such a number of persons riding in front as to interfere with the safe operation of the car. It is a law which should be carefully obeyed at all times." Occidental Plans Homecoming Fete Annual homecoming festivities for hundreds of alumni will be held at Occidental college Saturday, November 21, with the traditional Pomona-Occidental football game as chief attraction.
