Ben-Hur Spices Are Best Grade
Ben-Hur spices have for many years been the one most popular brands sold in the southwest. This public acceptance has been entirely due to outstanding quality which is attested by their richer flavor and delightful fragrance. Ben-Hur spices are inviably chosen for demonstration—as in the case of this week's cooking school.
In cake baking contests Ben-Hur flavorings are preponderantly used by the winners.
There is a vast difference in the quality of spices, though there is very slight price variation between these best kinds and the inferior kinds. Hence, it is important to the housewife that she knows that in purchasing Ben-Hur spices, she gets the finest quality procurable.
Ben-Hur spices are not only absolutely pure and guarantee full strength—but they are thoroughly recleaned before they are ground in the Ben-Hur plant, making them more appetizing and healthful as well as full flavored.

Tomato Prorate Proves Success In First Month
The tomato prorate in Southern California during tits first month's operation in 1936 demonstrated the value of controlled marketing to producers. This is the substances of a report just made to the agricultural prorate commission by B. H. Shepley, zone agent for tomato proration zone No. 1, which includes the counties of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Los Angeles, San Bernardino; Riverside, Orange and San Diego.
In the report released by Edson Abel, secretary of the commission, comparison is made between the month of September, 1935, when no proration was in effect, and September, 1936, during which the controlled marketing program was in operation.
In September, 1935, the Los Angeles market received 440,481 lugs of tomatoes which sold for $127,-080.33 or at an average of $.3466 per lug. During September, 1936, excess supplies amounting to more than 20% were withheld from the market during the month. This resulted in deliveries during the month of 367,934 lugs or 16.4% less than was the case during the same month of 1935.
Notwithstanding the fact that deliveries were substantially lower than those in the previous year, the prices received totaled $262,704.48 or more than double those for the corresponding period of 1935.
In commenting on the report Abel said: "This is just another small but very disturbing surplus, tomato growers of Southern California were able to more than double their returns. The increase is all net to the growers who benefitted also from savings in harvesting and marketing expense not required for the excess supplies."
Church Groups of Buena Park Meet
The combined program session of the Ladies' Aid and Missionary society of the Buena Park Congregational church was held this afternoon, opening with a covered dish luncheon at the church social hall. Report was made of the fall bazaar of September 25 with Mrs. Fred Law as general chairman. More than $100 was cleared on the project.
The monthly cafeteria supper sponsored by the aid will be held tomorrow evening in the church social hall with meal service from 5:30 until 7 o'clock.
And then there is the dumb father who complained that college courses were too expensivie because his student son sent him a big bill for Scotch.

The reason he shot him, his wife knows well;
Everyone wonders if she will tell.
If he told the Doctor, no one ever knew.
So your guess and my guess probably are true."

"Fold Into the Beaten Whites"
Just knowing the ingredients of an Angel Food cake doesn't enable a woman to bake a good one—for the mixing is so important. Perhaps you haven't realized that prescriptions, unlike recipes, usually give the ingredients only, and leave it to the pharmacist to know how to combine them properly.
With many prescriptions, as with an Angel Food cake recipe, this knowledge to how to combine the ingredients is vital.
The pharmacists at this store always "know how." They study new drugs, learn how to combine them properly with other drugs. This precaution is your best health protection.
