Mr. Sheppard, in appreciation of the people's tolerance to the mud-slinging tactics practiced by some of his appointees in their attacks against him, assures the people of the 19th Congressional District that the endrosement of the World's greatest Humanitarian Organization, The Townsend Plan, would not have been given him if anything detrimental had been found in his past record, after its thorough investigation by them prior to their endorsement. CARMICHAEL SUPERVISOR CARMICHAEL SUPERVISOR of the THIRD DISTRICT TUESDAY, AUG. 25, 1936 Carmichael will bring the office of Supervisor back to the people by requesting the citizens of each and every community and city of the Third District to meet with them from time to time and confer together all local needs and problems of each community and on County affairs. You then know your Supervisor personally. Private affairs will never interfere with his duties as your Supervisor. We will demand efficient and economical management of all County departments, to end that every Tax Dollar will be properly spent and the burden of the tax ever made as light as possible. The Third District will be his concern, but he will co-operate absolutely with the other members of the Board, to the end that the business of the County will be taken care of to the benefit of All the people. Thoroughly familiar with Orange County activities and possibilities through his association with Civic and Official bodies he hopes to have the opportunity to put into effect progressive ideas as a member of the Board of Supervisors. Carmichael says:—I know no Creed except duty to my fellow man and will strive to be friendly and approachable at all times. I propose to keep in close touch and constant touch with all sections of the Third District, to consider all suggestions fairly and to keep the citizens of the District fully informed and advised on all public questions. JIM CARMICHAEL'S RECORD The past record of W. J. Carmichael is an open book and as his friends mightly interested in own welfare, we ask you to investigate his record before voting at the Primary election on August 25th. Carmichael before coming to Fullerton made study of Government in all its phases, throughout every State in the Union, Canada, Mexico and Cuba. He came to Fullerton at the request of friends here about 14 years ago to consider the management of the City of Fullerton, so much talked of at that time. He with Ms. Carmichael and daughter Nancy-Lee have read with us all these years. Had his suggestions been carried out we would now have a similar plant as Pasadena, Whittier and other Cities of Southern California and would be operating a successful and economical recovery plant saving our water and fertilizer so much needed in our County. Mr. Carmichael was appointed a Director of the 32nd District Agricultural Board of Orange County by three successive Governors of California and he still retains that honor. He smiles when we ask him about the great political promises of lowering the taxes and says: "SPEND THE PEOPLE'S MONEY LIKE YOU SPEND YOUR OWN AND YOU WON'T NEED TO MAKE PROMISES, BUT YOU WILL GAIN CONFIDENCE OF THE PEOPLE AND Mr. Carmichael before coming to Fullerton made a study of Government in all its phases, through every State in the Union, Canada, Mexico and Cuba. He came to Fullerton at the request of friends here about 14 years ago to consider the management of the City of Fullerton, so much talked of at that time. He with Mrs. Carmichael and daughter Nancy-Lee have agreed with us all these years. The citizens of Fullerton elected Mr. Carmichael our City Council the second year after his inaugural and the four years service he rendered. Our City has shown to us that by his knowledge and fine spirit of co-operation with the administration by his advise and suggestions our people have had for the past number of years made a continuous saving of Thousands of dollars each and every year (while we paid him the usual Ten dollars a month salary). May we suggest that you look over his record at the City Hall in Fullerton, talk with the officials who keep the records showing the splendid results of the administration of which he was part. He was friendly, and approachable. To render a service to the people seemed to him a serious job. ALL OF US KNEW JIM CARMICHAEL. Jim was elected President of the Associated Chamber of Commerce of Orange County and served us well. He was appointed on the Tri-City Outfall Sewer Board and had his recommendations been carried out some nine years ago, no expensive extension of the outfall sewer, farther out into the ocean with its burden of expense for installation and maintenance, have been necessary. He have been made. For the past eight years every drop of water and all solids in the form of fertilizer would have been saved to the people, while removing all hazards of pollution of our beaches and the continued heavy expense for keep due to the ravages of the ocean storms. Just now we are facing thousands of dollars of expense for damages done and further thousands of dollars for repairs to the Sewer Main which disintergrating badly. Mr. Carmichael believes in a continuous auditing of the People's business to the end that wherein there may be shown a slipping down in any departmental work, the careless official will be apprehended quickly and corrections made with a possible saving of the individual's reputation as well as a safe guarding of the people's money at all times. Jim Carmichael counts his friends by the score. His fairness to labor and his unusual experience in official appointments and his well known part of and interest in the Townsend Recovery Plan or any Constitutional plan for the ample security of the aged Citizen needs no further comment. To you individual communities Mr. Carmichael says that whatever plans or agreements your district has had under agreement with the present or past officials, he will consider it mandatory on him to carry out such agreements in every official detail. In conclusion, Mr. Carmichael, a past Secretary of the California State Church Brotherhood, is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and has affiliated with Masonry, Knights of Pythias and the Independent order of Odd Fellows for years. 'He has the training and the strength of character and his fourteen years of service and living amongst us makes it a pleasure to join his many friends in recommending his Candidacy to you as your next Supervisor. Respectfully, Carmichael For Supervisor Committee This political advertisement paid for by friends of W. J. Carmichael.
