Additional Society
Committees of Young Ladies' Institute Named by President
Committee appointments to serve during the coming year have been announced by Miss Mary Ellen Chambers, president of the Young Ladies' Institute 109 of Anaheim. Miss Chambers also announced a business meeting to be held Aug. 4 at 8 o'clock to hear reports from the grand convention which is being held in Los Angeles. The president and Mrs. Adelaide McBride, first vice-president, are Anaheim's delegates at the conclave.
A pot-luck supper honoring the delegates will be held at the home of Mrs. Mary Kirsch July 28, it was said. Assisting the hostess will be Miss Beryl Kennedy, Miss Helen Liekhus, Miss Eleanor Fotchman, Miss Irene Haverty, Miss Marjorie Clark, Miss Mayme Dillon, Mrs. Viola Jarvis, Mrs. Betty Wetzel, Mrs. Theresa Bustamente, Miss Marjorie Erickson and Mrs. Alice McCarthy.
The standing committees, as appointed by the president, name Miss Marjorie Clark and Miss Frances Backs as co-chairmen of applications and investigations. Their assistants will be Mrs. Opal Rimpau, Mrs. Clara Burkhard, Miss Carrie Yorba, Miss Viola Vejar, Mrs. Marie Toussau, and Mrs. Esther Baggott.
Miss Fochtman and Miss Liekhus are co-chairmen of the athletic committee with Miss Lucille Kopsho, Mrs. Martha Dugan, Miss Patricia Sweeney, Miss Frances Quartia and Miss Erma Kramer.
Miss Beryl Kennedy is chairman of by-laws with Mrs. Adeline McBride, Mrs. Mary Kirsch and Mrs. Edna Kluthe. Civic laws and legislature is headed by Mrs.
Heinz, Miss Margaret Heinz, Miss Catherine McIntyre, Mrs. Betty Wetzel, Miss Marie Robertson and Miss Olga Peltzer.
Miss Nell Robertson is appointed historian; Mrs. Adeline McBride, parliamentarian; Mrs. Agnes Stilwell, pepetual novena; Miss Eleanor Fochtman, publicity; Miss Olga Peltzer, transfers and resignations; Miss Kennedy, visiting.
With Mrs. McBride and Miss Fallert as co-chairmen, the institute ways and means committee includes Mrs. Nora Cain, Miss Estelle Bastian, Mrs. Laura Harland, Mrs. Marie Lenain, Mrs. Frances Millings, Mrs. Lillie Wollerman, Mrs. Josephine Hammon, Mrs. Elizabeth Lypps, Mrs. Theresa Rees, and Mrs. Marie Walker.
Misses Emma and Alice Wisser, Rose Mouch, Mrs. Lucanna McFadden, and Mrs. Minnetta Prager comprise the judicial committee. In charge of layettes are Miss Erma Kramer, Miss Elvera and Miss Margaret Heinz, Mrs. Irene Steichen, Mrs. Genevieve Dominguez, Miss Emma Kane, Mrs. Clara Burkhard, Miss Selma Poetz, and Mrs. Elizabeth Queyenne.
Rebekahs Honor Retiring President, Farewell Party Too
The regular meeting of Lois Rebekah lodge Friday evening proved to be more of a surprise to the retiring president, Mrs. Bertie Presnell, than just a business meeting. Mrs. Presnell and her husband, Ed Presnell, have purchased a ranch near Cottage Grove in Oregon and plan to leave Anaheim for their new home this week end. As a farewell courtesy the members of the lodge surprised her with a lovely bedspread as a token of appreciation for her loyalty during her term as Noble Grand. Upon behalf of the lodge members Mrs. Berthyle Reisinger made the presentation of the bedspread.
Extending her gracious thanks to the members of her official staff Mrs. Presnell presented each one of them with a hand-embroidered clothespin bag.
The dining hall was decorated with zinnias and asters, while dainty cards marked the places at the table. Mrs. Eva Scutt was in charge of the social hour, and was assisted in serving ice cream and cake by Mrs. Mildred Allen, Mrs. Maybelle Spencer and Mrs. Marie Maurer.
During the brief business meeting that preceded the social hour and surprise party, Mrs. Presnell announced the joint installation services held Tuesday evening, at which time Mrs. Iphegenia Grow succeeded her as Noble Grand.
Further announcement was made for the Thimble club, which is to be held at the home of Mrs. Pearl Fergus tomorrow evening with husbands of members as guests. A later announcement

Mrs. Kirsch and Mrs. Rimpau will represent the institute as Girl Scout leaders.

Frank Morris In Campaign For Assembly
Frank Morris, Huntington Beach oil tool machinist today announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for assemblyman in the 75th district of Orange County.
Mr. Morris served with distinction in the World War as a pilot in the 191st A.E.F pursuit squadron. He is 38 years old and was educated at University of Sheffield, Christ Church Oxford and studied law at the University of Southern California.

Co-Workers Class Picnic Tomorrow At City Park
Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Baker of North Claudina street were hosts to members of the Presbyterian Co-Workers class Friday evening when the committee in charge of arrangements for the annual picnic met to complete plans for the event.
The picnic is to be held at the Anaheim City park Friday evening (tomorrow) at 6:30. It will be a pot-luck supper, with the class furnishing rolls, coffee and cream.
After the business meeting the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Robert Baker, served punch and whipped cream cake. Those present, aside from the host and hostess, included Dr. and Mrs. H. A. Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. Holly Markle, H. E. Haines, Mrs. Marion Ross, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baker, Parker Markle, and Mrs. Wesley Visel.
Garden Setting For Garden Program of Church Society
Members of the Presbyterian Missionary society carried the garden theme throughout the Mothers and Daughters' program Thursday afternoon. Mrs. M. E. Beebe was hostess to the group, arranging chairs and tables in the shady yard of her home on North Philadelphia.

Anaheim Men Are Invited Attend Bible Class Sun.
An invitation has been extended to Anaheim men to join in Anaheim-Santa Ana-Corona Day at the Taubman Mens Bible class next Sunday by Billy Frank, in charge of publicity for the class. The group meets at 9:30 o'clock in the State theater, at Ocean and Pine streets.
Dr. George P. Traubman, pastor of the First Christian church of Long Beach, is teacher of the class. The group is non-denominational.
Membership in the class totals more than 3,000, with an average weekly attendance of 1,000 men, Frank declared.
Committee Members Appointed, Zion Dorcas Society
Committee members to serve for the balance of the year were appointed by Miss Mary Maas, president of the Dorcas society of the Zion Lutheran church Thursday when they held their business meeting in the coolness of the City park.
During the month of August Mrs. William Klausing and Mrs. Emil Klaus will serve on the flower committee, with Mrs. Olive Kempen and Mrs. Edward Kelly taking over the duties for September.
Membership committee for September, October and November will include Mrs. Klausing and Mrs. F. Erwinworth, Mrs. O. M.
Reverend Swenerton Brings Family To Anaheim
Reverend and Mrs. R. Swenerton and their three children took up residence at the sonage of the White Tee Methodist church last Saturday Since the appointment of Rex end Swenerton to the Ana church they have been waiting the parsonage to be redeemed before moving from Los Annes.
The Swenerton home is located at 506 East Center Street. daughter, Miss Helen Swenert commutes to Los Angeles where she has a stenographic posse one son, Henry, is a sophomore student at Occidental college the other son, Ross, will Fullerton junior college in tember.

Opening the program following the meeting Mrs. H. A. Johnston led the devotional services, basing her text on the gardens described in the Bible.
Mrs. Altenow introduced Mr. Hartranft who read the wonderful "God of the Open Air." He pre-faced his reading by giving a sketch of the life of Van Dyke, the author of this truly beautiful poem.
The hostess was assisted by Mrs. John Kelsey, Mrs. Fannie Goddard and Mrs. Emma Stanley in serving iced tea and cakes after the program.
Guests for the afternoon included Mrs. Robert Baker, Mrs. Kelsey, Mrs. Margaret McKinnon, Miss Lovenia Boudinot of Pacific Palisades; Mrs. Anne M. Wing of San Diego; Miss Dorothy Pearson, Miss Mary Bromwell, Miss Addie Browmell, Miss Marion Graaf, Miss Dorothy Hawley of Anaheim.
Sunday School Class Members Guests of Teacher

It was decided to dispense with business meeting during August, but on August 20th have a social outing at the beach.
The interval between the business meeting and the supper hour was taken up with sewing. By the time the many delicacies of the covered-dish supper were served by the ladies approximately fifty members of their families had arrived to join them at the picnic tables.
Anaheim Group Attend State Evangelical Meet
The closing days of the state assembly of the Evanglical church convening at Pacific Palisades drew several more of the Anaheim members.
Among those from Anaheim who attended were Mrs. Irene Walker, Miss Lydia Betts, Mrs. R. C. Hein and her mother, Mrs. Fred Head.

Reports from Camp Osceola where the Girl Reserves are spending last week and this week at the annual summer camp tell us that the girls are enjoying every minute of the time. Although they have had a few days rain they have continued their hikes, horseback riding and their daily handicraft lessons without interruption.

An "Aloha" party for members of her Sunday School class, welcoming the new members and bidding farewell to those promoted to a higher grade, was given by Mrs. D. Carlisle last week end at the Anaheim park. Mrs. Carlisle had planned a swimming party for these members of the Anaheim Church of Christ in the afternoon in the clear coolness of the city plunge. At a later hour a picnic supper was served to the guests.
The members of the class which has been promoted include Etta Roseberry, Mary Jo Beat, Doris Shunk, Georgia Clow, Helen Clow, Joan Stitchman and Arlene Kirkhart. The new class members present were Jean Schwartzbach, Dorothy Roseberry, Doris June Ellis and Dorothy Duncan. A special guest for the afternoon was Margaret Meadows.
City Park Scene of Evening Outing King's Daughters
Gathering at the Anaheim City park Friday evening members of the King's Daughters class of the Bethel Baptist church, together with their friends, numbering more than fifty in all, enjoyed a picnic supper. Later some spent the evening swimming, others in outdoor games or just in friendly conversation.
The committee in charge of the picnic included Mrs. Minnie Strandt, Mrs. Emillie Hartman, Mrs. Anna Jungkeit and Mrs. Olga Pieper.
Reports from Camp Osceola where the Girl Reserves are spending last week and this week at the annual summer camp tell us that the girls are enjoying every minute of the time. Although they have had a few days rain they have continued their hikes, horseback riding and their daily handicraft lessons without interruption.
The first day was spent in selecting the camp's Big Chief and counselors, carrying out the Indian theme chosen for this year's camp. Occupant of each cabin were asked to nominate a candidate for the office and to present the nominee through a campfire skit. As a result Mary Jean Cox was elected Chief. Her council members are Emmaline Kinkler, Ruth Herron, Margerie Lehmer, Helen Cram, Eloise Hendrickson, Marybelle Cooper, Chicke Shigakawa, Catherine Wethered and Bernice Hargrove. The assistant leaders are Doris Berger, Eloise Smith, Shirley Justice, Kathleen Dermaree, Dorothy Pearson, Frances Schacht, Dorothy Marvin, Lorraine Aspelin, Hazel Brown and Viola Gulick.
Some of the hikes and horseback rides included a trip to Jinks lake, an overnight hike to Dollar lake and a two-day horseback trip to Greyback.
Last Sunday was guest day. Reverend Thomas Walker of the Presbyterian church conducted morning worship services. The afternoon featured a water pagent for the entertainment of the guests which numbered more than fifty for the day.
Tomorrow evening the group will return, meeting at the Presbyterian church at 6:30 after their ride from camp.

Advertising Budget Is Set for County
A budget calling for an expenditure of $14,725 for advertising of Orange county during the next fiscal year was prepared Friday by the county advertising committee when they met in Santa Ana. The budget will be presented to the board of supervisors for verification.
The committee is composed of all the chamber of commerce secretaries in Orange county and Dr. F. W. Slabaugh, county purchasing agent.
The proposed budget is slightly under that used last year, George Reid, secretary of the Anaheim chamber of commerce, reported.
