Center St. MORE ABOUT TOWNSEND PLAN (Continued from page 1) Mr. Ralph Blakesley, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Holmes of Fullerton contributed to the afternoon's enjoyable program with a splendidly rendered violin solo accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Mabei Moll a well known musician of Fullerton. They also responded with another number as an encore which was equally appreciated as was shown by the great applause. The Rev. H. I. Highley and Mrs. Highley of Los Angeles who won deserved prominence in the recent National Townsend Convention as vocalists were to the delight of all, present and sang two duet numbers entitled "The Old Age Pension Plan" and "They Are Waiting Just Over The Hill." They were given great applause. Mr. Schultz introduced State Area Manager Ted E. Felt as the one who would present the main speaker of the afternoon. Mr. Felt made a few preliminary remarks including a statement that "Congress is now investigating our movement and are requesting $50,000 to do so." He said, "if they will really investigate our Plan we are willing to let them have $50,000 but we want them to really do it. Then after they have investigated us we will probably be willing to spend another $50,000 to find out what they did with the first $50,000." Mr. Felt then introduced to the gathering Colonel Barnes as the main speaker who immediately began what proved to be a most remarkable and thought provoking address on the seriousness of the problems which confront the nation in the form of unemployment which seems to be general that the Townsend Plan is primarily an old age pension plan. He said it is as all Townsendites know primarily a permanent recovery plan. It has for its purpose the giving to the youth of the land a renewed opportunity to be employed at steady work and higher wages than are now prevailing. He quoted from a group of authorities figures and statistics which seemed conclusive proof of the ability of the nation to enjoy the plans of prosperity which is the objective of the Townsend Movement. He illustrated his remarks with a picture of the horse and buggy days when the highest dream of transportation on the part of youth was encompassed in the ownership of such vehicles and fast stepping horses. He said that such vehicles required only very low powered lubricants commonly termed axle grease. Imagine our high powered automobiles and other machines of this modern age, said he, being greased only with axle grease. To attempt such would be suicidal to the intended functioning of the machines. He then drove home the lesson intended by saying that circulation of money was the same thing to a highly complexed society as lubricants are to his powered machinery. Neither function properly without the other. He said the Townsend Plan would provide the lubrication in the form of money circulation which is the essential needed in this high powered machine age. Mr. Barnes lauded the privileges accorded the people under democracy and deplored the fact that some had come to believe that communism represented the ideal method of governing. In connection he said, "Communities say we are all for the State where pure Democracy says we are our brother's keeper." He concluded his address by waxing eloquent in a beautiful word picture of fine moral and spiritual value which would accrue to the people under the Townsend Plan wih values he said would far transcend in their contribution to the nation's progress the monetary order which the Townsend Plan wih also provide. Splendid applauds was given the speaker at the conclusion of his address. The fine afternoon program H. C. STE 173 - 175 West Center Shirts and Shorts Hanes Shirts and Shorts. That is used by large concerns making spaghetti and noodles and other wares. It is a cheap product. And the tragedy of it all is that the American poultry raiser is forced out of business. A tariff should be put on that stuff in order to protect the home producer. 5 STUDENTS WANTED LEARN BEAUTY CULTURE WHILE YOU EARN School Furnishes Equipment FREE! General Course!
