Citrus Growers of County Vote On Referendum Today to Saturday
Citrus growers of Orange County not identified with a co-operative organization through which they may express their opinions on the proposed citrus marketing agreement, will be given an opportunity to cast their ballots Thursday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Saturday, 8:00 A.M. to 12 M., this week at the Farm Advisor's office, 211 Court House Annex, Santa Ana.
Whether the present program under the marketing agreement for oranges and grapefruit produced in California and Arizona is continued depends on the wishes of the growers themselves, says Farm Advisor Harold E. Wahlberg, whose department represents the Secretary of Agriculture in Orange County. Since the marketing agreement and license went into effect in December of 1933, at the request of the industry, the agricultural Adjustment Act has been amended, thus revising the legal basis for the enforcement of the program. In accordance with the provisions of the Agricultural Adjustment Act, as amended last August, the industry has requested that an order supplant the existing license. This order has been developed, and is being submitted to the growers, the secretary of Agriculture considering and approving. The Agricultural Adjustment Act provides that before the order becomes effective, three-fourths of the growers by number, or two thirds of the growers by volume have to approve its issuance.
The total orange acreage in four principal producing states, California, Florida, Texas, and Arizona increased by over 50 percent from 1920 to 1930. At present time it is estimated that there are about 498,000 acres of oranges in the United States. Present, California has 239,625 acres, and increase of 32 percent from the 1920 acreage.
Total production of oranges in the United States averaged 398,000 boxes from 1921 to 1925 inclusive, and in the 1934-35 season the crop was approximately 64,241,000 boxes more than two-thirds of the volume produced form 1921, inclusive.
California and Arizona produce about two-thirds of the total range production in the United States. Production during 1921, 1924, inclusive, averaged 19,559,000 boxes, and in the 1934-35 season production totalled about 900,000 boxes.

All Bids On Cypress School Are Rejected
All bids for construction on the grammar school at Cypress were rejected Saturday night when the board of education found that the lowest bid was almost double the amount of money available for the job. The board met Monday with the architects and others to decide whether or not to call for new bids.
The district has but $58,000 available for the job, having voted $38,000 worth of bonds and received a federal grant of $20,000. The lowest bid submitted at the Saturday meeting called for an expenditure of $81,900.
