Brogdex Product Proving Popular The Brogdex processes of reducing excessive decay and retarding ageing and shrinkage in citrus fruits, which had their inception in California nearly fourteen years ago, have attained such widespread recognition throughout the citrus producing areas of the United States that today fully one-fourth of all citrus fruits produced in this country are now protected by this method. In addition to their widespread use in California, Texas and Florida, the processes have within the last year been adopted for application to the entire citrus output of the Island of Jamaica in the British West Indies, and plans are now under way by Brogdex Company owners of the processes for expansion of their operations to many other foreign citrus territories. Brogdex Company, whose offices for California are located at Pomona, through development of their processes and because of their wide research in packing and transportation methods, have gained a prominent position in the citrus industry. The Brogdex processes are in use in nearly eighty California packing houses, including all of the member associations of Mutual Orange Distributors, approximately thirty-five large associations of the California Fruit Growers Exchange, Western Fruit Growers; Anaheim, Gold Buckle Association at East Highlands, and several other independent shipers. These users in California will ship a total of approximately Installation of officers at the Anaheim Post of the American Legion last Monday night was preceded by a pest-commanders' (has been so to speak) dinner which was very well attended (it was free it ought to have been) and the past master of all congenial hosts (can't call him an M.C. because he is a bachelor-in-law—or something) spread his cheer (not liquidated) amid the past commanders by giving them all a chance to tell what the American Legion did to them. O, yes The first step of the Brogdex treatment of fresh fruit is the application in the washing operation of an alkaline mold-inhibiting agent, followed after the fruit is dried by the second step which consists of the application of a thin and lustrous coating of a waxy material. This wax coating is applied in the heated atmosphere of the Brogdex polishing machine, which spreads the wax over all surfaces of the fruit, sufficiently sealing the pores of the skin to retard the rapid picked fruit is enhanced by this process which gives it a lasting improved appearance thereby increasing consumer demand in the markets. The process and equipment by which they are applied are patented by Brogdex Company who license packers for their use at a small license fee or service it was Bill Webb in the chair (the one nearest the food). You know those of us that had to listen to the oratory believe that the boys who have since time immemorial been active in veteran work did not write their speeches at home or there might have been a little added to the "what" part of their speeches. They were all written by the M.C., you could tell that cause they all told about what a swell fella the M.C. is, was or what have you. Maury (hizzonner) Martenet, the speechless councilman and talkless past commander started an argument with the Smiths. However, he didn't get far because Ray Smith said nothing and the ride was a solo. But to get back to the interesting thing. Jimmy Heffron memorized his speech and I'll say this much Bill must've lost a lot of sleep preparing that one, and incidentally Jimmy must have spent a lot of time learning the whatduyucallems . . . well adjectives or something, and proved himself to be the orator of the past commanders. Of course there were a number of Buck Privates that could have taken the glory away from the hasbeens, but you know comradeship will prevail in spite of anything. However. A little later there was a fella came into the hall that somebody said ran for department commander or something. His name . . . well let's see seems to me it was a welsh name like Richard J. with a junior on the end . . . from the river country somewhere. and he came here at the insistence of some of his political henchmen . . . Fred Sidebottom and well I don't know many of those that attended the convention in Fresno . . . didn't see the sunshine when they returned . . . that is I mean sunburn . . . , well. I heard from authentic source that Fred was there, so I'll just name him and you can guess at the rest of the politicians . . . yes. I think my old faithful "got-losted" friend Joe Elliott was there too . . . the convention I mean . . . Well any way this welsh person came in and told all the officers of the post that he was boss and he proceeded to slam bang the gavel . . . chased Earl Fulfer out of the room and then, of course, a lot of us members of the Anaheim post went out to see what it was all about and they wouldn't let us back in again. These birds that came with the welsh man were dressed up like polius you know a lotta medals and brass buttons and stripes on their pant legs and everything. They told us THEY were going to install officers and we just smiled knowing like . . . we fooled 'em . . . we had already selected our own officers and before we got through with them . . . or they got through with us, put it which ever way you want . . we had our own officers in the positions in the post and that gang was sent back to the banks of the river or was it Riverside? The Welsh guy made a speech in which he told us he was proud of the Anaheim gang and . . . well you see he didn't get here to hear the past tormentors spout . . . so you can't hold that against him . . anyway he didn't tell us anything-we didn't already know because when he talked about the convention . . well, wasn't Ray Complete Axle and Frame Correction 218 So. The completion of Manchester avenue through Buena Park brings Orange county nearer to the industrial district of Los Angeles and offers to the workers in this area an inducement to locate in this county. Buena Park was founded in 1888 by James A. Whitaker, a resident of Chicago, who decided to take Horace Greeley's advice to "Go West and grow up with the country" California attracted him as the most desirable state, and Orange county particularly the northwestern part, appealed, to him as the place he wanted to make his home, so he purchased a ranch extending from Orange-thorpe avenue on the south to Coyote creek on the north, and from a road running from Almond station on the east to the road running past the twin barns( an old land mark) to Hansen road, in all, about 700 acres. Mr. Whitaker planned as a site for his town a location about half way between the Southern Pacific and Sante Fe railroads with the understanding that the Santa Fe, which was then under construction would put a station here. When the railroad, however, placed their lines north of his holdings, he moved his group of buildings to Whitaker avenue. J. H. Whitaker of Anaheim, nephew of James A. Whitaker, was the first Johnston Clinic, Established Here In 1898, Has Exceptional Re The Johnston Clinic had its inception in 1898 when Dr. H. A. Johnston opened his office in Anaheim. He was joined in 1908 by his bother-in-law Dr. W. H. Wickett who maintained a partnership for some years, purchasing in 1917 the present Clinic building. They were joined at different times by many outstanding physicians and surgeons many of whom have opened up independent offices of their own in the southland. Dr. Wickett went to the World War and shortly after his return decided to cease practise. He has been a resident of Fullerton ever since. During the existence of the Clinic, which was known in its earlier years as the Johnston-Wickett Clinic and is now known as the Johnston Clinic, there have been upwards of 50,000 persons who have been patients. These have come not only from the local community but every section of the souls The Clinic has given employment during these to from twenty to fifty some of the present physicians have been added with the Clinic fifteen The Clinic is one of Anna-old, well established institute and has enjoyed the comfort and respect of the people community. When the railroad, however, placed their lines north of his holdings, he moved his group of buildings to Whitaker avenue. J. H. Whitaker of Anaheim, nephew of James A. Whitaker, was the first postmaster and was also station agent at Northam and when an occasional traveler wished to ride on the Santa Fe, he sold him a ticket and then walked the mile to Northam station to flag the train. Buena Park was named for a suburb in Chicago, in which Mr. Whitaker was interested. It remained a small village for many years, the first impetus coming with the widening of the main street, Grand avenue. The ideal location of Buena Park, known as the Gateway City of Orange County, is responsible for its fast growth during the past decade. It lies in the heart network of highways with fifteen paved highways leading in all directions, providing access to the beaches, mountains, oil fields and metropolitan industrial districts of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Buena Park has all conveniences such as water and sanitary systems, lights, sidewalks, curbs, and paved streets, two grammar schools, four churches, civic organizations and a business district that amply supplies the needs of the community. officers but there ain't much use in wasting the space so I'll just close by saying politically... better luck awaits you Dick... come up and see us again sometime.
